Trumps expectations of winning the Nobel peace prize

The Leader of Norway's Socialist Left Party and its foreign policy spokesperson said:

"Donald Trump is taking the US in an extreme direction, attacking freedom of speech, having masked secret police kidnapping people in broad daylight and cracking down on institutions and the courts. When the president is this volatile and authoritarian, of course we have to be prepared for anything. The Nobel committee is an independent body and the Norwegian government has no involvement in determining the prizes. But I'm not sure if Trump knows that".

There will be no point therefore in taking any tariff reprisals against Norway and would do more harm to his chances of a prize next year. It is the Nobel committee's independence that gives the prize its value and credibility.

It's good that Trump has supported the recent ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas and he does deserve credit for his efforts; but its still too early to tell whether the peace proposal will be implemented and lead to lasting peace. Trump therefore needs to be consistent in his efforts in the next implementation phase (the hard yards, complicated phase), He won't be leading that...

Trump needs to maintain a steady, rational hand for peace and diplomacy at home in the US and abroad to have any chance to win a future Nobel prize. I'm holding my breath- in hope rather than anticipation....

I’d be fearful of retaliation if I was her Galaxy, so that’s probably a very shrewd move.

I don’t find the concept of touting for the Nobel Peace Prize attractive in any way, i think it makes you look like a loser before you start. Absolutely all credit to Trump if he manages to broker a deal for Gaza that will stick, but it’s not there yet, it’s too soon, so it would have been wrong to give the prize to him this year.

Galaxy Fri 10-Oct-25 17:38:05

She has just dedicated the prize to trump for his support.

Interesting choice.

Particularly a Venezuelan. The country has been illegally targeted by Trump on the high seas where a number of boats under the Venezuelan flag have been sunk with all souls and no legal backlash.

Trump is claiming that the boats were drug running, but zero evidence has been forthcoming. Venezuela is in Trumps target.

There won’t be peace in Gaza ,as soon as all the hostages are handed over Israel’s vile government will start the bombing again…..it’s their final solution and they won’t stop .
I hope, beyond hope I,m wrong but Netanyahu and many Knesset members want to wipe put the Palestinian people as they have said and shown for decades .. Not just the past two years !

He's no chance with Putin. Meanwhile people will starve and die due to his cuts in financial aid to various countries. In America, health care will be for the wealthy only and benefits severely reduced. Not to mention his vindictive suing of other politicians who have charged him quite appropriately in the past. The man is a sewer - to use a very old fashioned word!

Galaxy

If he has achieved this then the world will be a better place.

So true.
No matter what the world thinks of him, and he’s def a strange one, it will be a major achievement if the peace deal holds in Gaza and he forces Putin to pull out of Ukraine.

Galaxy Fri 10-Oct-25 16:49:15

If he has achieved this then the world will be a better place.

Aveline Fri 10-Oct-25 16:47:37

The world is a worse place for Trump being president.

Isn’t Americas either support (Israel) or lack of support (Ukraine eg ‘Ukraine started the war’) fuelling some of these conflicts anyway? So why should he win the peace prize purely by changing his stance on them confused?

62Granny Fri 10-Oct-25 16:23:00

Ronib, definitely not Mr. Average!
And he definitely likes to sing his own praises.
And it will be a huge achievement IF and when it happens.
But it has only just got off the ground it isn't going to happen overnight.

Nobody knows whether peace will hold. It never has before.

And what else has Trump done but stoke hatred and division in his own country with his facist policies? It sickens me that the whole world has to pander to this madman. It sickened me to see how King Charles and Starmer had to pander to him recently. It’s only happening because he is so dangerous. He is one of last people on this earth who should be getting a peace prize.

Norway are already bracing themselves for a tariff backlash if he has a major strop about not winning.

Nauseating stuff coming out of the White House. Steven Cheung, White House’s Director of Communications.

Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives, he wrote. “He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will.

In the same news cycle: US immigration enforcement using military hardware and tactics on civilians.

How is this peaceful?

keepingquiet Fri 10-Oct-25 15:43:42

They should give him any prize at all- just to shut him up.

He loves those prizes, especially the biggest bestest shiniest ones- he's already won lots, more than any other President, more than anyone else in the world actually...

ronib Fri 10-Oct-25 15:35:07

I don’t think for one minute that Trump can manipulate Putin….

ronib Fri 10-Oct-25 15:34:24

But is it Trump’s achievement if, and big if, there’s an enduring peace in Israel/Palestine? Surely Trump helped to initiate a ceasefire but there’s a mountain still to climb.

Maremia Fri 10-Oct-25 15:30:46

And if he can throw Ukraine 🇺🇦 into the mix.

ronib Fri 10-Oct-25 15:30:31

Let’s be honest- Trump isn’t an average person and he doesn’t express himself in standard English ways. I can’t understand why everyone is so caught up with every single word he says. He’s a complete one off and belongs to America. A distraction at best for the rest of us?

Galaxy Fri 10-Oct-25 15:29:00

I think if the peace deal holds then that is an outstanding achievement.

62Granny Fri 10-Oct-25 15:24:52

Do you think that people who say in public that they should win something as prestigious as the Nobel peace prize should be excluded automatically.
The prize isn't given lightly and I think it was given this year to someone who is actually doing something good , Maria Corina Machado.
If the peace plan works for Gaza he may have been eligible next year but to say you deserve to win it before anything is actually happened seems ludicrous. But stupid is as stupid does.
