Of course standards should be maintained. Maccabi has a reputation for anti-Arab racism, even within Israel.
Polish side Legia Warsaw was banned from selling tickets for away matches after violence at Aston Villa in 2023. Eintracht Frankfurt fans have been banned from attending a forthcoming Champions League match against Napoli.
Maccabi isn't the only team which has had fans banned for racist and violent behaviour. In the other cases it has had absolutely nothing to do with antisemitism. It's up to the club to sort its fans out. If fans are going to chant “Death to the Arabs” and “Let the IDF f*ck the Arabs”, they can't complain about being punished.

Maccabi Tel Aviv football club banned
(616 Posts)Aston Villa have banned the fans from Tel Aviv from attending the game. They say that after the violence in Amsterdam when the Jewish club was there that they don't feel they can provide the level of security needed to keep fans and nearby residents safe.
There have been clashes in Norway and Italy when Israel compete.
Aston Villa say it is not antisemitism but just being safety conscious.
Maybe another way could have been found without the ban?

I guess Oreo means condoning those who, with no interest in the football match, would gather outside the ground purely to harass supporters of the Israeli team.
This wouldn’t be about two opposing sets of fans as in other cases of banning. It would be about harassing people purely because of their nationality.
That’s exactly it, and not hard to understand tho a few can’t seem to.🤷🏼♀️

Maremia
Who is condoning what Oreo?
Condoning the wish for public order?
Give those squirrels a rest.Give those squirrels a rest.
You cannot order others to stop posting even if you wish they would, Maremia.

"Ah yes".
StripeGran as a society do you not think we should try to uphold certain standards?
Try preaching that to the most frequent offenders who try to order others what to post.
Nobody is condoning hurting people.
Yes Lathyrus3
If the police were concerned about the small percentage of football hooligans at ant match the majority of matches would be played in empty stadiums.
This is because of the threat to the Israelis, as I posted up thread, there are many voices on X including an Imam calling for all good Muslims to do their duty and show no mercy to these visitors to our country.
If that’s not antisemitism, then I give up 🤷♀️
Starmer is right on this occasion. Additional resources should be provided to suppress unlawful behaviours. We cannot ban potential victims to mollify those who might attack them. Mob rule must not prevail.

There are lists available through Google and now on Facebook of other Clubs who have been banned for yes, the antisocial behaviour of particular fans when they have been following their team in away matches.
This is a public order issue.
The police aren't just concerned about Maccabi. Lots of people could be injured if there is fighting. The British police are there to look after British people mostly not to protect violent away fans who could easily start the trouble as we have seen.
You mean the huge crowds of Pro Palestinians who may well descend on Birmingham if the match goes ahead with Israeli fans present to watch it, who also may well try to attack and even kill those Jewish fans? That kind of hate? Yes, anyone who condones that should be very ashamed.
As a country we should also be ashamed if we can’t protect them so find it easier to say they can’t come here.

Getting a bit tired of being " shamed"
Most of us are doing our best in challenging circumstances. And trying to make some sense of things.
We can't feel responsible for the way others behave. I have never been a hooligan or hated anyone because of their race or religion. Those who do these things should be ashamed but they aren't.

Beinng anti- semitics is evil.
This ban is not about being anti -semitic
This ban was an attempt to prevent two groups of racist thugs coming together at a public event and posing a danger to the innocent majority.
Two people have died and hundreds have been arrested across France after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fans celebrated the club's victory in the Champions League final, according to the French interior ministry
June 2025. Utter chaos , hundreds injured. Police injured. Carnage. Will PSG fans be banned from the UK? I doubt it.
It's shocking that there are people who believe this ban to be right and proper.
It is appalling. What next? Where will Jews be banned from next?
Shame on anyone who thinks that this is in any way acceptable
This sort of rhetoric is unforgiveable How would any of you cope with your grandchildren coming home with spittle on their blazers, chewing gum in their hair? Bruises and skinned knees from being pushed over.
This is how it starts and the more and more hatred is aimed towards the Jewish the worse it gets.
Thanks Cadenza. Hope all on this Thread have a quick look.
Football should be a welcoming place for everyone. There's so much going on behind the scenes from players and clubs to further a good clean image, but in this case it's a lose lose situation all round. No one can win.
Maremia, I remember the football results, Saturday about 5 pm , I think?
Queen of the Hearts

Sheffield Wednesday
Crystal Palace
Anyway back to the hate and the sniping.
www.facebook.com/share/v/16LDiFLGwR/ I know nothing about football but this report from Channel 4 seems balanced. There are real risks here for public safety. The police need to be able to do their job without political interference.
It's Saturday morning. Back in the day we heard the football results while Dad filled in his pools coupon
Exotic names like Queen of the South, something Orient
So here's a football quiz, for those who wish.
Which, if any, of these statements are true?
'Football fans who chant, 'Death to J....' are racist scum'
'Football fans who chant, 'Death to A.... are racist scum.'
Both statements, neither statement only one of these statements?
Oh really, Rosie. I don't respond to "oh look at the Squirrel" posts.
Just another day in the rise of anti Semitism. It has always been there but it is becoming more obvious now. Haters gotta hate someone.

Of course, but its not playing out right now in the UK, with a specific issue,
which is what the thread and 8 pages of different POV's is about
Not quite sure what you are trying to say Rosie in relationship to the discussion as no one is going to disagree with what you have said as regards terrible world situations.
I'm sad that you and others assign the Gaza/Israel conflict as the most important conflict in the world when the situation in Sudan is of such a huge humanitarian need which, dare I say, dwarfs Israel/Gaza by some magnitude. Would that be because possibly the Israel/Gaza conflict may impact the western world whereas the Sudan situation does not? As far as I'm aware there is no current thread on the beyond awful situation in Sudan. Perhaps you can direct me to where concern is being expressed?
