Maccabi Tel Aviv football club banned

Aston Villa have banned the fans from Tel Aviv from attending the game. They say that after the violence in Amsterdam when the Jewish club was there that they don't feel they can provide the level of security needed to keep fans and nearby residents safe.
There have been clashes in Norway and Italy when Israel compete.
Aston Villa say it is not antisemitism but just being safety conscious.
Maybe another way could have been found without the ban?

The government should have kept out of this. If a police force make a decision about safety they will have good reason to do so.

Precisely. The safety of the local people was what was important.

I agree Lathyrus3 we shall see indeed.

Now the ban is settled and the Maccabi fans can’t attend, there no reason why this shouldn’t be a peaceful game of football with no protest, violence and racism.

Let’s see shall we.

Yes Oreo, it's obvious they weren't wanted because of their record of violent racist behaviour.

AGAA4 Sat 01-Nov-25 16:57:14

It is obvious why violent fans won't be wanted. Maccabi fans have done no favours to Israel by their loutish behaviour.
The amount of publicity over this will cause problems in the future for many people.

It’s obvious why they weren’t wanted, and I predict trouble from the locals and pro Palestinians when the team come to play this month.
That will be anti semitism and anti Israel for you right there.

The police in Birmingham and other authorities have reviewed the decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from next Thursday's game at Aston Villa, as demanded by Keir Starmer.

They have reasserted the ban and cite intelligence from European police agencies about the violent racist behaviour of MTA at various games.

Starmer, Nandy, Badenoch and the rest of them should apologise for slurring the people of Birmingham, the local MP Ayub Khan, many others and for cynically using this to demonise Muslim communities and pro-Palestinian sentiment.

Yeah right! Not.

Smileless2012 Sat 01-Nov-25 15:47:12

That's good to know bmacca, so much for accusations of antisemitism.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 01-Nov-25 15:13:35

I am not sure that the police could have come to any other conclusion.

More about wee Tommy's visit.
Comments reported in their Parliament saying that inviting him was not properly discussed and was 'a slap in the face to British Jewry'.

growstuff I looked so rough the other day the facial recognition on my phone said no 🤷‍♀️

Very amusing in many situations, but what if your life (or something serious, but less dramatic) depended on it?

It has a backup PIN which you can use after several attempts at facial recognition.

My bank allows me to withdraw £2k daily in cash …. Yes I was surprised but it seems a trivial amount these days ….

It depends on what account you have it can be anything between £250 - £1,000 with my banks.

There is however 20+ questions when paying in cash and there is an upper yearly limit.

As for a Bentley 🤐

Aaahhh! Life is so simple when you drive an old banger around and never pay cash into a bank. The police would be very welcome to have my phone PIN (if I can remember it - I usually use my thumb).

Yaxley Lennon was driving out of the country in a car not owned by him.
He was stopped by police because of this and they said he was acting in a furtive manner when asked about the car. If police ask for a pin on anti terrorist suspicions you have to comply. Why wouldn't he do this if he had nothing to hide.
I find it very suspicious especially knowing what this man is capable of.

Maremia Thu 23-Oct-25 14:18:53

I heard a different opinion on his arrest. It might be of interest to folk on a serious Thread just now.
It was claimed that he wouldn't give his phone pin to the Police, who suspected images of an offensive nature concerning the underaged.

Defending? More amazed that he isn’t allowed to deliver a car for a friend. The police should back off? AGAA4

The police are only doing their job and tbh we really don’t know all there is to know about this story.

The police will know a lot more about Yaxley Lennon than you ronib. He's hardly shown himself to be an upstanding member of the community. I'm sure he is being watched for the safety of others.
Makes me wonder why you want to defend this racist thug.

But it doesn’t mean that because Tommy Robinson has £2k in a car that that’s criminal activity…..

Indeed not! Tell that to all the young men who get pulled up in our cities every day. grin

I have absolutely no idea how much money my bank allows me withdraw. I withdraw about £20 every couple of months, so I'm nowhere near any limit. But I'm not trying to dodge tax or hide illegal transactions. wink
