Breaking News. Trump meets Zelenskyy

Zelensky has come away empty handed after Trump indicated he was not ready to supply the Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.

Zelensky said afterwards that he and Trump had talked about long range missiles but decided not to make statements on the issue "because the US does not want escalation".

Trump said "Hopefully they won't need it, hopefully we'll be able to get the war over without thinking about Tomahawks.....I think we're fairly close to that".

Veering on subtlety from Z and T not seen before in their interactions...

Trump to meet Putin in Hungary next (though no date set, will it happen, will Putin get dispensation to travel through EU airspace, will he set foot out of Russia?).

Putin was embarassed when he had to cancel his much planned Russia- Arab summit this week as only a handful of Arab leaders confirmed attendance. Many Arab leaders were seen at Trump's Gaza summit instead. The Kremlin imagined Arab leaders flying to Moscow to discuss regional security and energy relations, with Putin presiding and showcasing Moscow's enduring influence in the Middle East and proof it remains far from isolated despite western sanctions.

Maybe a this is a sign of Putin's waning influence in the Middle East and that may have prompted his phone call to Trump?

Love him or hate him, hopefully Trump will play his current upper hand with Putin to Ukraine's advantage 🤞🤞

Not quite an outright ban on the Tomahawks. Just don't make a public announcement.
Trump to outplay Putin?
Just not in the same league.
Will read what the Kviv daily is saying about it so far.

Indeed, NanKate. It will be interesting to see if Mr Putin is granted leave to fly into Budapest. He is on a winning streak just now ... except with the war of course, except with his own nation, but those little matters won't trouble him.

Very true petra!

So relieved that the Ukrainian situation is back in the news. There are Ukrainian flags in many windows here but keeping awareness high is difficult while the spotlight has, rightly, been on the Middle East.

Here’s hoping that a resolution can be found, though I think Mr Putin is a wilier character than Mr Netanyahu.

I could weep for Zelensky and the Ukrainians. Yet again Trump has been influenced by that murderous President Putin.

No Tomahawks more innocent people dying in both countries. It is a disaster.

Putin must be rubbing his hands together that his ruse of deflecting Trump from aiding the Ukrainians has worked again.

Yes petra that was a brave young girl to sing that song in public.
Don't want to ask what happened next.

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 17-Oct-25 21:43:00

Wow, petra, that's interesting. I have compassion for the people of Russia, as they are paying a high price for the ambitions of their bloodthirsty leader

Unfortunately he’s meeting Putin next and as we know Trump agrees with the last person he spoke to

That’s if he can remember who it was. He does have the attention span of a goldfish 😂

At long last the Russian people are showing their discontent with Putin and the war.
To be honest I think this is only because it’s now affecting them in different ways.

I think we are just biding our time until we know the outcome of the meeting, and hoping that Trump is supportive of Ukraine, which on past performance isn’t yet a given. I’m keeping everything crossed.

Lost track.

And since no one replied, it makes you wonder if other people have as well.

Yet another "subject" that, if the media stops reporting on as often, people slip away?
No marches, no flag flying.
4 other things "topping" it in the news?

and since no one replied it makes you wonder if other people have as well
Well you wonder wrong. Many of us are reading articles everyday and fully up on what’s going on.

Why put the word Subject in quotes? How very odd.

Was that Uriah Heep character, Vance, in attendance? I sincerely hope not. What a bullyboy!

No, even better - what a reptile.

Could this be the start of something great? Trump is doing his best.
