People’s bodies were being offered to Andrew on a plate - why wouldn’t a divorced, over sexed presumably youngish man refuse the offer?

The man formerly known as Prince can fall no further....
(798 Posts)Breaking news is that Andrew will now be Andrew Mountbatten - Windsor, his title is no longer, and he will move out of Royal Lodge.
There is a huge difference between being haughty and arrogant, and assuming that people's bodies are yours for the taking. Not to mention the financial shenanigans that put your own greed ahead of the interests of your country.
If those things were an inevitable part of being Royal (ie in their DNA) the republicans would have a field day. Even I, who generally doesn't care one way or the other, would be campaigning to have the monarchy abolished.
If anyone is interested there are quite a few sociological studies on social class and deference. It is thought that the upper and middle classes have more confidence and arrogance than the working classes. It doesn’t mean that the working classes are less able or that the upper classes are more deserving. Britain is still a divided class based society. FYI.
I am not sure I agree though. If you live in an environment of constant deference, it must be incredibly difficult to maintain a 'normal' approach to life. You see it in very privileged ultra rich celebrities.
Obviously some manage to be decent human beings but many talk about how difficult it is not to behave like an arse.
MOnica - thanks for your excellent and entertaining response to ronib’s views on dna entitlement and arrogance
People do seem naive. What would Elizabeth make of it? She paid to avoid courts.
Working royals should carry on!
They don’t work in any real sense.
Work means doing something useful when you’d rather be doing something else. Sometimes something you dislike. Not taking your kids to Wimbledon.

I can’t imagine how a member of the British royal family could fail to be arrogant and entitled- humility isn’t in their dna and not in the job description.
What a strange thing to say. Does this apply to every one in this country, is humility only for the poor.
Where is the social boundary line between being 'umble, ever so 'umble', as Uriah Heap says in David Copperfield and beng arrogant and entitled.
I have known a number of people whowere arrogant and entitled and not one of them had a drop of aristocratic or royal blood in their veins.
Do not let your prejudices get in the way of your common sense.
I think there are really big names to come out of this and Andrew can't give names as he would be in trouble with people concerned,

Seems that Mr Mountbatten Windsor is to lose the title of Vice Admiral.
Perhaps he could keep the Vice bit.It is the one title he really does deserve to lose. All his other titles are honorary, but Vice-Admiral is a real rank that naval officers reach by promotion on merit through their career.
AMW got his as an honorary title after service in the navy. I do not say anything against the courage he showed during the Falklands conflict, but as a naval officer he was unpopular, because he was arrogant and entitled. I am very happy to see him lose this title. It should have been among the first he lost.
Yes, it is an honorary title of Vice-Admiral but not to do with his service in the Royal Navy.
As I posted earlier
Now he is probably to be stripped of the title of Vice Admiral which is honorary. Good.
However, he can still be known as Commander Mountbatten-Windsor because that was his rank when he left the Royal Navy.
Naval officers can still use their rank after their retirement if they wish but they woyldn't normally do so in ordinary life unless it is to promote charities in which they are involved.

Babs03 - Exactly. I have watched both Channel 5 programmes recently and have been disgusted by his behaviour and the lies he has told to worm his way out of trouble. He should have kept quiet and disappeared from public life. Anyone would have face a lengthy prison sentence for his behaviour.
He may go to prison depending on what else is yet to come out. Not likely, but possible.
Typo - could fail not …

The way some people are talking they make it sound like Sandringham is a prison! He will still come and go as he pleases. The press will hound him there, so little will change.
I'd like to see the same witch hunt about others in the book, Trump comes to mind, but no doubt there are others, just not all prince's
Virginia's family are baying for Andrews blood..I can see them enjoying the hype and holding their mucky hands out for what else they can make.
Agree Mollygo, one should lose a title because one is judged
Arrogant and entitled is unbelievable
Hi, I’m looking for ideas for a birthday present for my friend who is going to be 80.
She absolutely wants for nothing, more money than she knows what to do with so I’m at a complete loss as to what to get her.
She will be away for her actual birthday so coming to us for a few days when she gets back & we will have a mini celebration with cake.
Good grief! If everybody who was unpopular lost their title because of how others perceived their behaviour I can think of several head teachers who would have to be demoted.
Joke MOnica, as in one of his many unpleasant vices.

I've never understood the seemingly endless obsession with titles and tittle tattle. But it seems to go hand in hand with the monarchy. Surely time to grow up now and get over ourselves.
I honestly don’t feel the need to grow up and get over myself so far as the monarchy and AMW are concerned.
Me neither, looking at some of the republics around the world.
As the the queries about children, perhaps some need to acquaint themselves with details of the case against Maxwell
Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that GHISLANE MAXWELL was sentenced today in Manhattan federal court by United States Circuit Judge Alison J. Nathan to 240 months in prison for her role in a scheme to sexual exploit and abuse multiple minor girls with Jeffrey Epstein over the course of a decade. MAXWELL was previously found guilty on December 29, 2021, following a one-month jury trial, of conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, conspiracy to transport minors to participate in illegal sex acts, transporting a minor to participate in illegal sex acts, sex trafficking conspiracy, and sex trafficking of a minor.
That is not alleging that Commander Mountbatten-Windsor engaged in these illicit acts.

Allira what are you talking about? What children? Names please.
Epstein’s conviction thst led to a prison sentence was a sexual offences against against a 14 year old girl. I don’t expect Allira was attempting to say Andrew was involved in that offence. What he did, which is incontrovertible, was to continue a close friendship with Epstein despite the offence. It involved numerous other yiung girls who were too freight to give evidence.
Andrew’s email saying they’ll play together agai is unlikely to be referring to cricket.
Thanks for the explanation Iam64
I have been busy and missed ronib's question.
I don’t understand people who join a thread to say they have no interest in the subject
