God, I feel sick to my stomach and also frightened.

What is the connection between the ( so called ) grooming gangs , Southport and this latest tragedy.

Perpetuated by males.

As far as any member of the public knows so far, there is absolutely no other connection.

The victims will get the best treatment at Addenbrooke’s hospital. My son left there on Fri afternoon after major surgery lasting 8 hours. He had been in just over 3 weeks.

Glad to hear your son is making a good recovery flowers

All empathy to all victims, their loved ones and all others witnessing this horrific.

The rise in knife crime is truly abhorrent and terrifying. With children taking knives into school and random individuals murdering or injuring innocent people.
I don’t know what the answer is but I suspect the reason is the internet where likeminded violent young people communicate with each other, showing off their weaponry and planning attacks.

Galaxy Sun 02-Nov-25 15:00:50

It doesn't really sound like the usual type of knife crime, it isn't groups of young people fighting each other.

No, it's all very strange.

A lone attacker, but two?

It appears to have been a premeditated attack by two males.

Dreadful incident and according to the news railway stations up and down the country now have a police presence which I find puzzling if it’s not terror related and by terror I don’t mean Islamic terror.

I’m also wondering about the identities of the two individuals. Both British nationals, born here, one black and the other of Caribbean descent. What does that mean, “of Caribbean descent? Genuine question.

keepingquiet Sun 02-Nov-25 15:14:34

We can conjecture all we like but soon the details will emerge, despite conspiracy theories emerging without a shred of evidence.

I suppose it is huma nature to wonder what drives people to commit these kind of crimes, and what circumstances come together to allow these things to happen.

I know in a lot of rail disputes there were objections to cutting staff because of passenger safety concerns. As a regular train passenger I can't remember when I last had my ticket checked on a long train journey like this one.

Whilst I'm not saying this was the reason the incident happened I do believe increased security staff on busy long distance trains might help.

Trains have always been relatively safe modes of transport and I have to admit this worries me for an upcoming journey.

Ok,
…….‘I’ve just stabbed you, possibly to death, but don’t worry, there’s a really good hospital 5 minutes down the road’

Yep. Point taken.

Time is of the essence with stabbings. It's awful there were stabbings, but if their lives can be saved because of proximity to a major trauma centre then yes, that is a blessing.
Only 3 people still critical now I heard? I do hope everyone pulls through.

Allira Sun 02-Nov-25 15:21:14

the other of Caribbean descent. What does that mean, “of Caribbean descent"? Genuine question.
It means his parents/ancestors were from the Caribbean, presumably.

JaneJudge Sun 02-Nov-25 15:21:52

I don't think we know if it's related to gang/county lies stuff tbh. It seems endemic atm

All knife crime is just bloody awful. I worry every time my 18yo son goes out

Unbelievable though it seems copy-cat crimes are always a danger in cases like these, so police presence is a deterrent.

JaneJudge Sun 02-Nov-25 15:24:33

It's a really fast train from London to Doncaster. It's not a long train journey, it's under 2 hours?

44m London to Peterborough, they are so fast

Apparently the arrested men weren't allowed to be interviewed straight away as they were entitled to an allocated rest time beforehand.

Not helping anybody , that comment.

I suppose they would have to be in some shape or form rational to be intereviewed perhaps?

surfsup Sun 02-Nov-25 15:39:28

Yes I know that but why such detail? Wasn’t the other one of Caribbean descent or African descent? I just find it odd.

They are in separate police stations so they are unable to collaborate at all.

It is so that any evidence given would be taken when they were rested and perhaps calmer so that they fully understand their rights and that any evidence they do give would be properly admissible in court and not taken under duress.

Yes it is a bit odd that they say this about one but don’t mention the other black person’s heritage. Then again there are so many bits of info circulating at the moment I suppose media outlets just go with whatever is available.

Wyllow3 Sun 02-Nov-25 16:21:27

If they had been white it would have been, "was mental health involved

Frankly, it's just racist to start harping on about what exact parentage where parents of parents however many generations etc.

Enough! We will find out as time passes and interviews have been done. concentrate on the victims and the impact.

StripeyGran Sun 02-Nov-25 16:40:45

Perhaps it is a coded way of saying "Not Muslim" I don't know?

Just a thought. And before I am jumped up on I do know people can convert.

Terribly sad day.

Maremia Sun 02-Nov-25 16:45:27

Some of those people were so brave.

People from the Caribbean are not necessarily black of African heritage either.

Are you saying the police superintendent is racist?

Very unhelpful comment.

The police superintendent is doing their job. After the enormous problems caused by the Southport murders last year, which were fuelled by rumours and speculation as to the ethnicity and immigration status of the perpetrator it is vital that the police give as much information as they possibly can about the suspects in order to prevent misinformation going viral. Stating their ages, nationality and ethnic origins ASAP is police duty. Nothing to do with racism.
