It’s all speculation, it’s not been said he has mental health problems, or if the man who has been released from custody had any relationship with him at all. I was just pointing out that detention under the MHA would normally preclude him being on a train, in response to what another poster said.

Once upon a time kitchens were a no go area in these homes for residents unless accompanied by a support worker.
According to the level of threat/ danger knives were locked away.
Sadly in a lot of homes these rules and procedures have slipped .

But it's speculation that he was being detained anywhere. We've seen over and over again that people with serious mental health issues, possibly posing a danger to the public, have been allowed to live in the community.

If he was detained under the Mental Health Act he would have been in hospital, not on a train?

I don't know why anybody has an idea he was detained under the MHA. There are plenty of people with serious mental health conditions who aren't sectioned.

We don't have the full story on this tragic event.
I'm praying for the victims and that it doesn't happen again.

I don't believe in any god, so there isn't much point in praying for me, but I'm certainly thinking of the victims still in a critical condition and hoping they pull through.

It’s after the train stopped in Huntingdon and is cctv from a local business.

I did think he was arrested immediately after stepping off the train but apparently not. There’s also a report he said “the devil will not win”. The way he is just strolling after screaming passengers brandishing the large knife is chilling.

Thank you. That explains it. I've just listened to a witness statement on Channel 4. The man seemed reliable (unlike some others). Apparently, the train stopped in Huntingdon just minutes before the police arrived. The suspect got off the train before the station could be cleared, but he was cornered and tasered very quickly. It's reported he told the police to kill him, so it sounds like he is schizophrenic (maybe). So much for all the calls for total remigration and claims that it's Islamic extremism and terrorism! (Britain First, Rupert Lowe and Tommy Robinson have gone very quiet over the last couple of hours.)

I have no words this took place not many miles from where we live, my heart goes out to those victims involved, and of course the train driver who tried his best and got the train to Huntingdon so not that far from Hitchinbrooke hospital although reading online I think the were taken to addenbrookes in Cambridge if online posts are correct

Addenbrooke's has the major trauma unit for the whole of the East of England. Its location with access to the M11 and A14 means that it's used to handling horrendous injuries. Hitchingbrooke has nothing like the facilities which Addenbrooke's does.

I bought a cook's knife in Lidl last week. I haven't tried (and I'm not going to) but I reckon it could do quite a bit of damage. The cashier had to press a button to authorise that I looked over 25, but it wasn't difficult to buy.

I let something float by the other day when I was firmly put in my place by somebody who thinks they are running the show.

As it turns out one of them may be innocent and caught up im the horror. Therefore a toilet break and a hot drink was of some use.

I did wonder why there were two, it didn’t make any sense. Not that any of it does. But surely this is just one mentally ill person to target innocent people in such a murderous way.
Two mentally ill people hellbent in a similar fashion would be strange.
I imagine the other man was just caught up in the drama.

That was my first reaction although I’ve got to be honest and say I’m still avoiding the news on tv.

Dreadful incident and according to the news railway stations up and down the country now have a police presence which I find puzzling if it’s not terror related and by terror I don’t mean Islamic terror.

I’m also wondering about the identities of the two individuals. Both British nationals, born here, one black and the other of Caribbean descent. What does that mean, “of Caribbean descent? Genuine question.

I guess it means he has some caribbean heritage and some British heritage?
I could be wrong.

It does, to my mind, raise questions about how people can defend themselves when attacked with a deadly weapon like a knife, especially when trapped in a confined space like a train with nothing to hand. Clearly, passengers can't be protected on every journey.

A grave reminder not to follow the US in everything - if guns had been readily available, this would have been even worse especially in terms of loss of life & life-changing injuries.
