A Big Thank You to the Emergency Services

Emergencies often seem to bring out the best in good people and these people certainly rose to the challenge and showed heroism of the finest kind.

It is an awful tragedy that it took a horrible incident of this kind to show this heroism.

I just hope the injured and everybody else who was involved make the best recoveries possible.

Some of them were beyond brave. Putting themselves in harm's way.

An especially big thank you to the train driver, only his quick thinking prevented many more injured. He changed track to the slower track and came to a halt at Huntington station, all within 5 minutes. From high speed to slow speed, change of direction and stopping. Within shouting distance from the police headquarters and the full compliment of armed police

I agree- so much speculation and hate going around.
The facts are that the police, the ambulance and fire services acted quickly and effectively; the staff on the train did their jobs with no regard for their own personal safety in protecting others. This is why train drivers are paid so well, it isn't just about sitting at the front.
Bur especially praise must go to the ordinary members of Joe Public acting to care for others out of sheer humanity.
More info to come out, but it has reassured me that this country is nowhere there the brink of extinction some people claim it to be...

Also a thanks to rail staff and the police for the efficient way they dealt with all the passengers whose journeys home from London were disrupted by the incident.

DD knew nothing about this event until she got to Kings Cross station around 10.30pm for the journey home ater a day out with friends. The staff at the station knew exactly which trains were running (there are services from KX that leave the main line long before HUntingdon)

The staff at the station told her which train to catch and which station to alight at to join the coach replacement service. She got to the train, got off, saw 2 coaches drive away full, and then saw the long line of taxis.

She was packed into a taxi that went first to her station, then on to the next one, but when she told the driver. that to get from her station back on the A1, he would drive past the end of her road, he dropped her there instead, and she was home by just after 1.00am.

She was full of praise for how well police and rail staff, on the station and organising coaches and taxis for passengers like her.

I do hope we remember this next time a Government wants to reduce staffing levels.

And spare a thought for the reduction in mental health services ….. however fullest praise to the brave people on the ground.

I was about to say the same. I wouldn't want to go on any train that didn't have a guard.

Yes they did which is partly what the dispute a few years ago was all about. This is evidence that they were right to preservere in their concerns for passenger safety.

Also Ilovecheese the government have no say in reducing staffing levels- it is the individual privately owned companies who do this in order to maximise profits for their shareholders. Thankfully the govenment is now back owning some of them.

One evil deed brought about so many good ones. The bravery of all involved in fighting off this man is humbling. Hope those injured recover soon.
