I just knew that the pro Palestinians would cause trouble at Aston Villa Park tonight! No Tel Aviv fans here just the team playing a match.Just hope the police can contain them, it looks a real shambles at the moment. Why didn’t the police throw a wide cordon around the ground so that the Villa fans can get in?The pro Palestinian mob is right next to the ground itself.

It's nothing new I assure you.

I once took my boys to a Celtic v Hearts cup tie match at Tynecastle. We were herded like cattle before the match, there were mounted police, much shouting, swearing, jostling and drunkeness. It was frightening.

Football has tidied its image such a lot since those bad old days.

From The Telegraph today:

Oliver Brown
“Discrimination wins on shameful night at Villa Park”
A supposedly tolerant society allowed anti-Semitic messages to be expressed as pro-Israeli protesters were herded into a ‘Jew cage’

Amazing how displays of union flags and the Cross of St. George in the country they represent are regarded is regarded as intimidating, yet Palestinian flags, backed by huge crowds with no interest in football whatsoever is not.
Followed by the usual sanctimonious very one-sided virtue-signalling.

Well that was an interesting response but no I meant we as a country have experienced a rise in anti semitism.

AGAA4 Fri 07-Nov-25 08:47:16

We have increased anti-Semitism? Not the actions of the Israeli government?

Galaxy Fri 07-Nov-25 08:44:57

Now not know.

Galaxy Fri 07-Nov-25 08:44:15

We have increased anti semitimism including murder of Jews, we have increased division, I can tell you you know votes for reform will increase watching that. But you know crack on, I am sure it will end well.

I was pondering the banner that said “Keep killers out of football”

As far as I know, none of the Israeli football team have killed anyone.
Presumably then the poster has equated the Israeli government and army actions with the football players who have killed no one, just because they are both Jewish .

Would you say that was antisemitism?

No. There's a difference between being anti Israel because of the killing of Palestinians and razing their infrastructure to the ground and anti-Semitism.

Not quite! They are both Israeli.

Difficult one, I think it is cloaked antisemitism.

Definitely not in the interest of good sportsmanship.

It is absolutely right that we have right to protest, however if you think protest like these are going to be anything but absolutely disastrous for this country then you are incredibly naive.

Of course they have.

With all due respect Oreo you are flogging a dead horse here.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 07-Nov-25 08:24:15

It is good to see that our democratic right to protest peacefully remains watertight.

The protests will undoubtedly continue in London and elsewhere all the time death and injustice is continuing for the Palestinians.

There is still violence and land theft continuing in West Bank and Gaza remains a moonscape. Utter tragedy, particularly when you realise that those people in Gaza are there because they were violently removed from their farms and homes in 1948. They have nothing to thank Israel for.

And now the match is over, and the local fans, hopefully, safely home.

Indeed. A sigh of relief from all am sure.

Just saw it on the news, a handful were arrested before the match from both sides, but on the whole it passed off peacefully thank goodness.
And Birmingham police have made a statement to say that the decision to ban Maccabi supporters was based upon reports of hooliganism in Europe and not anything to do with a possible pro Palestinian presence.

Oreo Fri 07-Nov-25 08:19:05

Politics has no place in sport.

Oreo Fri 07-Nov-25 08:18:15

It’s not just the money, it’s created massive amounts of anti semitism and also anti Muslim feelings.

Oreo Fri 07-Nov-25 08:16:43

The noise from the pro Palestinians was deafening but thanks to a huge police presence just noise.
Think what two years of policing these events have cost our country! France was right to ban any costly and divisive marches there, we should have done the same.

AGAA4 Fri 07-Nov-25 08:16:25

There was no serious disruption despite huge crowds. Pro Palestine and Pro Israel groups attended.

Until the situation in Gaza is settled and no more killing there will be protesters.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 07-Nov-25 08:16:21

What peace deal in Gaza Oreo?

Maremia Fri 07-Nov-25 08:16:13

There's a deal for pieces of Gaza just now.
