Oreo, there may be other issues, no surprise in any huge organisation. Give me the bbc any day over many other networks.
Trump is dominating as only he can. He is a shameless, narcissistic, dishonest, manipulative bully. Yes, the speech was cut rather than shown in its full, rambling, dishonest, provocative rant to his followers to ‘fight’ fight or we will have no country left. He promised to go with them. He claimed the election was rigged.
I wish he’d just back off. Show a shred of dignity or humility but of course he won’t. He gets off on shouting and bullying, perfectly demonstrated in his behaviour at the White House towards Zelinsky.
He’s obviously delighted to be centre stage, ensuring “the top man” fell on his sword
Maybe we need a Go Fund Me appeal to pay any legal costs the bbc incur

BBC expected to apologise for doctoring Trump videos
(694 Posts)And so they should! Had any other TV channel done this they would have been closed down. The truth will out.
The BBC have got away with so much over the years and have always been biased and many would say, corrupt. Martin Bashir, Jimmy Savile, Huw Edwards etc

How many times has that edited speech been broadcast in the last couple of days?
Will Trump go for all the organisations that have broadcast it, then? For further dissemination of defamation?
This is getting sillier and sillier…

Although the BBC did not broadcast to the US, the BBC version of the speech was rebroadcast widely by other media including Fox News. The BBC should stop messing around, apologize and end the controversy
The BBC itself often rebroadcasts news featured by other media, blatantly biased AlJazzera news from Gaza would be an example of that, mostly with a disclaimer.
When was this rebroadcasting of the Panorama version of the speech, in the US David?

He’s a dreadful bully. Yes the panorama programme fell below the standards we expect. Any sensible Potus would say that and move on
This Potus repeatedly told his supporters he’d won the election, told the to fight fight or have no country. Hes a liar, a manipulative narcissist.
Yes he is, and you’re right that the Panarama fell below the standards we expect, as did various other things they produced.
This is a wake up call for the BBC.
They will probably apologise to Trump to avoid an expensive case in court but will still likely have to pay compensation. This isn’t just about Trump, there are other issues.
The team which produced this particular Trump documentary is still in place and working on Panorama programmes I believe. (The Wikipedia)
I think television needs to have a higher benchmark to work to if any belief in its integrity is to remain.
So far the current chairman doesn’t have my confidence but let’s see how this plays out?

The BBC may be able to "afford $1 Billion.
The BBC is funded by a licence fee paid by all television-watching households in Britain. In 2024/25, it brought in 3.8 billion pounds ($5.1 billion), while commercial income took total revenue to 5.9 billion pounds. The BBC's funding is detailed in its latest 10-year royal charter that is due to expire in 2027.4 hours ago
There'd be a lot of repeats if he wins!!

Don't forget that the BBC is a far larger organisation than most media in the UK. It not only runs two TV channels but it also provides 4 national radio channels, local radio and the World Service. It's bound to have more funding. Good for it that it appears to have a strong commercial arm, too.

I would have thought he could win easily.
But I am not a lawyer.
Read the lawyer's blog I posted the link to.
He is a lawyer.
Only one among a great many, though...
Chatgpc found me a few quotes. This one, from a piece in the Independent seems useful by a media lawyer, Mark Jenkins (obviously a media lawyer will be dealing with possible libel etc all the time)
“Trump’s reputation has already been battered by nine judicial findings … So proving that Panorama caused additional serious harm is a bit of a stretch. If it can be shown by the BBC that his reputation was already in tatters on this issue, blaming the BBC for the wreckage of that is a bit of a tough sell.”
I admit I haven't watched the BBC footage, but find it rich that he has taken offence to his own words, when just two weeks ago he was up in arms that a province in Canada edited (shortened) as speech from Ronald Regan saying he was against tariffs.
I think as long as the overall sentiment is kept, there is no reason that the media should do editing for time.
Brilliant🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Casdon.

Much of what we watch is heavily edited - and often creates a misleading picture.
I feel, however, that in essence the footage shown by the BBC represented what had happened. Trump may have tried to cover himself by saying any protests should be "peaceful" - but his loud and angry call to his supporters to "fight like hell" and his support of them marching to the Capitol seemed to suggest peace was the last thing on his mind.
Because he's got great wealth, and is backed by people who are wealthy almost beyond imagination, he is trying to shut down any critical opinion by threatening to sue people and organisations who do not have the means to engage in astronomically expensive law suits. He is a bully and a tyrant and the world should be very afraid.
If he sues and wins, we could deduct an appropriate amount from our licence fee, as they can't prosecute us all for not paying, surely? If they do and we refuse to pay the resulting fine, they'll have to build more prisons to house us all.
They could pay any fine from the BBC revenue from sales.

Trump delivered his speech, and many people who heard it were horrified.
So why, oh why, did the people working on the Panorama programme find it necessary to alter it?
I can think of no sensible reason why they doctored the sequence of his words, but thanks to their idiocy Britain has been made a laughing stock by the BBC and faces a very large bill.
Having listened to the arrogant Tim Davie he most certainly will not apologise; he considers he has created a marvellous broadcasting service in his own image, clearly disregarding the falling numbers of listeners.
It is the licence payer who will fund the costs.
I would have thought he could win easily.

I think the charge is defamation? Ludicrous really.
Look up treason ronib it’s a charge against an individual who betrays their own nation. It’s not applicable.
It varies from state to state between 6 months to 3 years- Florida, where Trump is making his claim it is 2 years…..
There’s no statute of limitation in the USA for treason…… don’t know if it stretches to that?
MaizieD, yes it’s my understanding USA time limit is 2 years from date of event.
The Panorama programme was bought from an independent company which should never be used again. A sincere apology should be made to Donald Trump for unprofessional journalism which was not spotted by BBC staff. There I think the matter should end.
