New asylum rules

^Under the plans, asylum seekers will be returned home if their country is deemed safe, most will have to wait 20 years to apply to settle permanently, with deportations sped up when claims are rejected.
I’d like to know,
Who decides when and if a country is safe?
What do you think.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 20-Nov-25 19:20:43

I think if a poster reports a post it should show on the thread.

On the very rare occasion I have reported a post I always say so.

Has that changed. When I had a post deleted they emailed me clearly telling me what I had done.

Not always.

Have they been banned or suspended, does anyone know?
Suspension means you are allowed back if you promise not to breach the guidelines I believe.

What a mess. I didn’t know about the banning until I caught up with this thread.

Kadinsky, I believe your retraction and acknowledge thst your comment about the banning of growstuff was better not said, demonstrates the best of gransnet. We can talk about things, disagree then reflect and find some common ground,

I’m shocked that growstuff is banned, if that’s what has happened. She had strong views, but are we honestly reaching the point where a poster whose general political views don’t accord with yours needs banning.

It feels Trumpian. Childish accusations of ‘nasty’ words, disgusting

Galaxy Thu 20-Nov-25 18:42:08

I am going to continue to follow the guidelines as established by the site, I am sorry but I am not going to follow random rules decided by individual posters. I mean I think everyone should say Galaxy you are a genius after every post I make but I accept that people may not want to follow that.

Babs03 Thu 20-Nov-25 18:10:48

I think it is very upsetting for the member when they are banned, they feel isolated and angry about having no means to plead their case. They also feel betrayed because they believe others have reported them or complained about them and so now such underhand and mean spirited actions have resulted in them being banned.
I do know that the tactic of baiting a poster so that a rather regrettable reply is posted, then reporting them for this, is used at times with those having achieved their aims then joking around about this poster.
In any case I think we should all call out any poster we see trying to bait or bully another poster - being pleasant about it of course - rather than just ignoring it.

Perhaps we should raise this issue of no explanations on Site Stuff. It seems to me to be a very unkind policy. We do remind ourselves from time to time that thee is a real live person behind the username, but Gnet seems to have forgotten that.

Or perhaps they should state in the 'guidelines' that a poster could be permanently banned without Gnet giving them any explanation of why they were banned.

I think the moderation has changed quite a lot. I haven't had many posts deleted over a decade, but a few years ago I got an email to tell me my post was deleted 'because it breached the guidelines'

Now, nothing.

Maremia Thu 20-Nov-25 17:00:04

And in reality, the Threads with the most 'discussions' are the Threads that thrive.

*Please don’t be pleased that someone has gone just because you don’t like them, I believe you said the same about me*

Yes you’re right.
I shouldn’t have said that. Apologies.

Absolutely no problem😊.

You probably disagree profoundly with my politics - but I have zero problem with that. None of us is right and none of us is wrong. We all muddle along.

How do you know if someone has been banned? I've seen posts deleted but not seen anything to say a poster has been actually banned? Not being awkward, I just want to understand whats going on.

We know because some of us communicate by email.
I’ve posted this advice soooo many times.
If you communicate regularly with another member through PMs, exchange email addresses.
When you’re banned, it’s instant. No recourse to inform friends by PM.

No she had no message at all until she enquired.

It always astounds me that when a poster is banned no one seems to have reported the posts !

But only about 5 people say they did not ban.

Plus I think it was established some time, maybe years before I arrived, that some reports are done by members who read and never post.

I read a surprising report or something a few years ago that said for every post on social media, there will be 1 member of the site who is active on it, for every 9 members who are not active.

Blame me if you like for her banning.
It had nothing to do with me.
But I’m not sorry she’s gone.

Oh dear no ones is blaming you, why on Earth would we?

Please don’t be pleased that someone has gone just because you don’t like them, I believe you said the same about me.

I don’t have any great feelings about your thought about me tbh it just seems sad.

Galaxy Thu 20-Nov-25 16:06:41

No one is blaming you, I hope.
To be honest, when I was deleted, I didn't blame anyone for reporting me, I had broken the guidelines.

Well must have done.

Actually I had to find out if I remember correctly and no proper explanation was given until I enquired.

friendlygingercat Thu 20-Nov-25 16:02:19

It is because of snitches and poor quality biased moderation that some of us stick to the games threads.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 20-Nov-25 16:02:06

Unless someone reports this thread - it is unlikely to be taken down, because according to GN they have no time to read threads as a matter of course.

Galaxy Thu 20-Nov-25 16:01:23

It is not that difficult to keep within the guidelines.

Perhaps some posters need to think a bit differently, going forward.
Especially when on the n&p threads.

A wrong attitude in general is not helpful to anyone.

Though I appreciate there are many posters with ill health.
In pain. Bereavement etc.
Which can all, understandably, alter moods.

We’ve also lost Claremont who is one of the nicest people you could ever meet.

Gosh

Gosh. You'd think GN moderators would actually inform someone that they'd been banned. Doesn't seem fair. I expect this thread will be closed down now.

Maybe she got a "if you break the guidelines again, we will ban you" type message.
Just guessing.
