New asylum rules

^Under the plans, asylum seekers will be returned home if their country is deemed safe, most will have to wait 20 years to apply to settle permanently, with deportations sped up when claims are rejected.
I’d like to know,
Who decides when and if a country is safe?
What do you think.

MaizieD I hope growstuff is reinstated.

We seldom agreed, but both of us admitted when we did.

The next big performance is a discussion about Farage as a day boy at Dulwich College. Some reports in The Guardian (of course) are obviously intended to smear but it sounds a bit desperate? Predictable too?

You know the old saying, don't you, ronib?

"The child is the father to the man"

GrannyGravy13 Thu 20-Nov-25 12:50:29

I had no idea growstuff had been banned.

Is it temporary (naughty step) or permanent?

MaizieD Thu 20-Nov-25 12:49:04

I was sorry to see that both StripeyGran and Growstuff have been banished, and hope they can be reinstated.

How do you know that?

It always amazes me how people get to know things grin

I do hope they are reinstated, growstuff in particular. She's a long standing and knowledgeable poster, if a bit tetchy at times.

Kandinsky Thu 20-Nov-25 12:47:59

Not sure what’s the point in banning people if they’re reinstated the next day?

StripeyGran can’t say anything right now. Just as Growstuff can’t anymore. Seems that somebody has a hit list.
Makes me wonder why I even bother with this site anymore.
Cancelling people out is horrible.

A poster was banished a few weeks ago, and reinstated the following day. It was good to see that GNHQ acted so quickly in that case.

*at school (not "art school" sorry

NotSpaghetti Thu 20-Nov-25 12:25:19

But ronib I don't think he'll be the first (or last) to have people talk about public figures when they were young.

It can be interesting (and enlightening?).

My husband was art school with several people in the public eye (some he knew well). "Oh it's x, he was always supremely boring" or "Look at that pompous (?) - no change there then" followed by a story

"Well look at that - he seems to have really changed considering how xyz in his teens."

I find it interesting how so many are replicas of their younger self and the huge changes are genuinely quite rare.

His behaviour at school has been in the public arena for years now. His headmaster recognised this.

Farage is not the most pleasant of individuals.

Posts are only deleted if they are against the guidelines of GNHQ

They are not deleted because a posters disagrees with or dislikes a post…

Apparently not strictly true. GN do and have admitted making mistakes and indeed recognise that some posts that are against the guidelines stay, as well as some posts on reflection should not have been deleted. Largely I think - reading between the lines because they are not employing enough mods.

So it is a bit of a lottery.

Oh dear.
He's had over a year to learn the procedures.

You don't think that 'procedures' are of any interest to him, do you? 😆

It's all performative, isn't it?

Allegedly Farage performed in the Spectators' Gallery, supposedly to make a point about not being asked to pose a question in Parliament.
It was then revealed that one of the reasons he was not asked to speak was because he rarely, if ever, formally submitted a question.
Public 'Performance' for him, seems to take precedence over 'doing the day job'.

Can’t help feel that Reform and Nigel Farage (sitting in the Spectator’s Gallery in the Commons) will expand their influence if Starmer doesn’t get a firm grip on small boats and the economy (more importantly). Currently it feels as if Reform is presenting as The Last Chance Saloon….

This puzzled me:

Nigel Farage (sitting in the Spectator’s Gallery in the Commons)

Why? As an MP shouldn't he be sitting in the House? What am I missing?

Allira Thu 20-Nov-25 10:25:49

Casdon

Thanks for your post Allira, I respect your view, but we will have to agree to disagree on this issue I’m afraid.

Thanks for your reply, Casdon.

I didn't want to fall out with you!

Is it counter productive for GN to delete posts? I am frequently late to a Thread, and miss out on finding out what sort of response is 'acceptable' and what is not.
Also, how much of what is being chosen for reporting is simply 'in the eye of the beholder'?

starnded Thu 20-Nov-25 08:19:25

Sad state of affairs when people delight in getting posts deleted.

We are definitely in the Last Chance Saloon if Farage gets into power.
On the other hand, if his Politicians are as durable as his Councillors?

Kandinsky Wed 19-Nov-25 13:21:39

Reform are rubbing their hands.
They can make the main parties do all their work for them without actually being in power!

Sarnia

Primrose53

Not sure why everybody is going on about taking jewellery etc. Labour MP Barry Gardiner was on TV last night saying although it was a suggestion in Denmark, they never actually went through with it.

It will never happen here! 17 Labour backbenchers have now said they are against the plans SM outlined yesterday. Some very vocally.

I noticed Kemi Badendoch offered to work with SM to sort out this issue but SM was very curt in her reply. It would have been a good idea I thought.

I agree with you about working together. Immigration is a major concern in our country and affects us all so I would like to see all parties coming together to try to find a solution.

Well said Sarnia I would hope that politicians would see this.

Casdon normally I respect your views and your posts are interesting but I think your attack on Primrose (with whom I often disagree!) is unfair.
The green trouser suit thread did have some rather robust comments (some were deleted) but, had it been that bad, I'm sure GNHQ would have deleted the whole thread.
As was pointed out, there have been equally unkind posts about other politicians and their appearance, their behaviour, their morals etc etc.
Why did this one touch a nerve? Someone mentioned "the sisterhood" but that's a non-starter as can be seen on GN!

As nanna8 said, can we all move on from the green trouser suit please? I'm sure Angela Rayner has.

Ps Badenoch is Kemi's married surname.
Gaelic is a recognised minority language, as is Welsh and others.

I agree 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Also Casdon a lot of people definitely don’t rate Angela Rayner and say so, and why ever not.
