I think it is great.

It appears a well thought through law.
And it was unanimous.

I remember the time when a violent physical assault on a woman was dismissed as a 'domestic'.
Redefining violence can bring it to the attention of the police.

I don't want any more hate crime law, it would make no difference to violence against women. It is window dressing.

It is progress when you consider that killing women was often in the past dismissed as a 'crime of passion', in certain countries.

However the UK doesn't recognise violence against women as having a hate element, but it does for race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or transgender identity. Why not violence and murder against women because of their sex? A woman needs to have one of the other protected categories in order to have a crime against her considered hate.

Yes, I thought that and then I read some comments saying it would help clarify statistical evidence about violent and abusive attitudes towards women and make clearer what interventions were needed, socially and institutionally.

I admit I did skim read but I did feel they had a point.

I just wonder.

GBH is GBH
Hate Crime is Hate Crime
Violence against women, violence against children, violence … full stop.
All equally wrong.
