When I think of the Eurovision Song Contest I remember Riverdance 🎶

They were the best part.

They are terrified of Israel doing well.

No - they are devastated by the genocide Israel is committing.

Quite! Goodness knows how they've got the nerve to "show their face" in public.

I'm with Ireland and the other 3 countries on this one. The tv won't be going on....

I watched it years ago in Germany when our only TV channel was BFBS!

I haven’t watch it for decades……probably when Bucks Fizz won. Some of the songs are dreadful and the artists…….well, where do I start?!?

Witzend Fri 05-Dec-25 09:48:32

I don’t think I’ve watched it since Sandie Shaw won it!
So I wouldn’t give a toss if it died the death.
I know many others enjoy it, though.

Seriously? With 163 million viewers? It’s not for me, but it’s very successful, I don’t understand why people would want to stop other peoples enjoyment.

I never watch it now because it has become political. Votes aren't for the song now so it seems pointless.
There has been tampering with votes but they say they have sorted that now.
As four countries have pulled out with possibly more to come this contest is not bringing people together through music it is pulling them apart.

I haven’t watched it since my DD’s were teenagers.Israel didn’t win, she came second with a lovely song and looking beautiful.
Some acts are just gross these days or comical at best.Yes time for it to go off into the sunset.

It is thought that Israel won because of some fiddling with the vote.

When that starts to happen, it is time to call it a day.

It was the public vote which moved Israel up into second place.

Nothing to do with individual countries votes.

It's very popular I gather, I haven't watched it for years, it all seems pointless now, given some countries vote strategically, and it's all too political which defeats the spirit of what should be a competition. Lately we always come more or less last, apart from the one memorable song by Sam Ryder a couple of years ago. Apart from Abba, what other artists have emerged from Eurovision with talent and longevity? Musically we have nothing to prove for a small country we have punched well above our weight. England after all gave the world The Beatles and The Rolling Stones amongst many other world class groups and artists.

Yes knock it on the head, it's had its day.

It’s probably time for it to go now. I did go to see Cliff Richard come second at the Albert Hall with Congratulations, in 1968.
Tickets courtesy of a school friend who’s mum worked at the BBC.

Casdon Fri 05-Dec-25 09:16:33

It’s certainly popular.

Eh? Israel did not won.
Austria did.

It used to be a bit of an event back in the seventies in our house. We would quite enjoy it back then.

I haven't watched it since really. Time to let it go.

keepingquiet Fri 05-Dec-25 09:03:24

It has really become a victim of its own success. I think the event has changed a lot over the years, so it could change again instead of scrapping it all together?

I never watch it so I don’t mind if it stays or goes really.
It’s naff.
But is it popular? Maybe. Like Strictly perhaps. A certain audience who are devotees. Fair enough.

TheWeirdoAgain60 Fri 05-Dec-25 08:54:10

The last time I watched it was when Bucks Fizz won with Making Your Mind Up in 1981.

Not seen even a 1/4 of once since!

Freya5 Fri 05-Dec-25 08:52:27

Yes time for it to disappear for good. I for one never watched it since the last British win. I read enough about it to think it's time taxpayers money was not used to promote the rubbish that it has now become. As with sport it's now used as a left wing biased political chess game. Israel has a right to defend itself, as does Ukraine.

Mollygo Fri 05-Dec-25 08:44:09

With the latest, four countries will withdraw if Israel is allowed to compete and the ongoing joke about voting having nothing to do with supporting countries for political reasons, is it time to drop it?

Even if we don’t have a song likely to win, we still get to pay out, because
the "Big Five" countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK) pay the highest fees and automatically qualify for the grand final.
