What a disgusting sight. The leader of FIFA crawling to DJT and awarding him with their inaugral peace prize. Football sells out to the president.

Devorgilla Fri 05-Dec-25 17:41:44

Never! Now there's a surprise.

CabbageWars13 Fri 05-Dec-25 18:21:08

What a farce. In fact, the farce to end all farces.

I'm amazed this meaningless 'prize' wasn't awarded jointly to Trump AND Putin.

Ha! Ha! Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa........!

Smileless2012 Fri 05-Dec-25 18:27:41

He really is a fool if he thinks anyone will take this seriously.

Casdon Fri 05-Dec-25 18:30:40

We’re watching, the programme is absolutely dreadful, only now are they doing the actual draw, which is the only bit we are interested in.

Moonwatcher1904 Fri 05-Dec-25 18:30:59

What a pantomime this is.

BlueBelle Fri 05-Dec-25 18:35:17

🤣🤣🤣

Is that the same FIFA Sepp Blatter had to leave a few years back because of brown envelopes? Though it had cleared its swamp.

No it's Gianni Infantino. Different name, same crawler.
When Russia was surprisingly awarded the 2018 World Cup he received The Medal of Friendship from Putin.
When Qatar was surprisingly awarded the 2022 World Cup he defended that country's appalling human rights.
The 2034 World Cup has been awarded to Saudi Arabia with Infantino making big chances to the eligibility criteria and smoothing the way for another Middle Eastern World Cup.
He has been the instigator of the Peace Prize awarded for the first time to Trump.
Don't tell me little brown envelopes have not played a significant part in the above mentioned.

When the draw is made in Europe it takes a max of half an hour, this showcase doesn’t bode well for the actual event.

foxie48 Sat 06-Dec-25 08:48:35

Any normal person would be ashamed of being fawned over in this way. I think it's a sign of how mentally unstable Trump is that he clearly enjoys this charade. A Fifa peace prize? What a horrible joke!

AGAA4 Sat 06-Dec-25 08:50:19

Not the peace prize he really wants but will do for a start.
They played his favourite song and he was dancing. Not a pretty sight.

The second half of the draw is tonight, when we find out who is playing where 🤷‍♀️

ViceVersa Sat 06-Dec-25 08:52:08

What an absolute farce that was. No need for that ridiculous charade whatsoever. All football fans want is for the draw itself to be over and done with as quick as possible so they know which teams their team will be up against. No need for 'celebrities, politicians or singers to be involved at all. As someone else said, it does not bode well for the event itself.

Read about it with photos too, see the medal and the happy clap Trump 🙄

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-fifa-peace-prize-world-cup-draw-b2879076.html

"As well as the prize, Infantino also handed Trump “a beautiful medal for you that you can wear everywhere you want to go,” which the president accepted with a smile.

“Its like given the child a sweetie to keep him amused,” remarked another user, with another adding with exasperation: “When does it end?”

Infantino told Trump that the award was being presented on behalf of more than five billion soccer fans around the world, and to honor “a dynamic leader who has engaged in diplomatic efforts that created opportunities for dialogue de-escalation and stability.”

🤣🤣🤣

Oh - very bitter comments. I don’t like the man but really.

Deedaa Sat 06-Dec-25 22:15:55

I was reminded of the Headmistress in Outnumbered telling Karen that at primary school they give you gold stars for breathing.

Wyllow3 Sat 06-Dec-25 22:18:57

Oh, he deserves a great more than "bitter", "*nanna*.

Imaround is away atm but have you been following her accounts in GN of what is transiting in the USA. Try following just CNN most days.

America does razzmatazz better than any other country so there will be plenty of that around this World Cup.

As for the medal - Mr Trump is easily bored so if it keeps the man happy and focussed on allowing his diplomats to continue working towards peace then it’s worth the effort.
The world of football is doing its bit in the same way as so many leading politicians have swallowed their pride in the last year for the greater good.

Casdon Sat 06-Dec-25 22:41:36

Did you watch it lixy? Regardless of the Trump element, it was a travesty of entertainment. It takes perhaps 10 or 15 minutes to do the draw, which is all anybody was watching for, but it dragged on for an eternity, with numerous ‘stars’ who had nothing at all to do with football being wheeled in, contributing nothing. It was not razzmatazz it was the Supermarket Sweep of TV viewing, truly dreadful. The worst was the weird techno/reggae/rap ‘song’. The best bit was when Rio Ferdinand had the balls to tell one of the cheesy hosts off for constantly calling football soccer.

If this was him at the draw, imagine what the first match and the final will be like! Canonization maybe???

But if only Trump simply stopped at "bitter" - but he's doing ethnic cleansing on a frightening scale, hiding behind his masked ICE storm troopers, sending the US Navy to bully Venezuela, trashing the food stamps programme, doing his level best to pull apart health care for the poor and instantly sacking anyone who tries to call him to account or just on a whim because he can.

Why does he have so much power? I thought the War of Independence was intended to break from Britain and the Monarchy? But this malevolent idiot would make Henry VIII look benign by comparison, he's such a despot.

No, I just saw the bits on the news.

I’m sad to learn that it wasn’t good. I was imagining something along the lines of the Super Bowl, which is terrific. Here’s hoping the actual event is better then.
