david49 if you read the new Security Strategy I think that you will find that is exactly what Trump intends.

And as for not wanting war in his own sphere of influence - tell that to the Venezuelans.

The New Security Strategy has completely reversed the post WW2 agreement, and Europe and NATO are seen as separate from the USA who would rather go it alone.

Maybe they should sit these people down and force them to watch war footage from World War 2 and all the other wars since. Vietnam, Palestine, Cambodia etc.
I seriously think in the ancient times ,when leaders went out and fought on their horses with their men, were better. How dare they send lovely young people out to die and sit in their damned offices plotting death and destruction ?

Quite!

If I recall aright - there were some wars fought in ancient times by the two leaders playing a game of chess and whoever won the game was proclaimed to have won the war. A lot more civilised than actually getting out there in a battlefield and physically slugging it out. Though these days - and with the possible alliances that might form = whoops = would the Chinese come into the picture and some of their technology come into the picture (yep..it would do)..if they do get involved?

It's the human race writ large - and some of them go in for starting fights with neighbours about land (voice of experience of being on the receiving end of that) and that tendency the human race has for "greed and grabbing" expands out to include nation states.

Personally I do feel I was born into war (in the world at large) and will end up all these years later dying into war (as the world is still likely to be at it when I go - ie an estimated 10 years lifetime left). Yep...and with the very same war I was born into (ie that civil war in Palestine) still going to be continuing all that time and is gobsmacking me at just how long an agressor sometimes keeps fighting that same war.

Imo - it's people who want to be seen to be "in charge" and expand their own personal take on the world that start all these wars, the military/industrial complex rubs their hands gleefully at "Oh goodie - the politicians have started yet another war. Keep those profits rolling in". No-one actually cares for us, the people, just trying to live our own individual little lives peacefully. It also feels very odd to me indeed that when some of the human race has moved on beyond trying to order others around/grab from others - and yet there are still some that order wars and others that fight those wars. Those of us that are in the contingent that have "moved on" beyond that just have to watch on the sidelines in horror and hope the warmongers and grabbers don't affect our own lives - whilst knowing they're bound to do so one way or another.

I wouldn't want mine going to war. Not until everyone regardless of where they hail from, fights alongside. Even tgem I wouldn't want it. This is politicians weakness and lack of foresight, that has created a divided country with a vastly diminished armed forces which should have come first..Every citizen swears allegiance to our flag or return to a country where they will..No sane person wants war, it would be thrust upon us. However, this time one of the mad pair would just push a button

It seems to me that Trump is bending over backwards to avoid war, he does not want to escalate Ukraine because it may risk a nuclear response or draw China in. It’s Europe thats saying Ukraine should push Russia back, but Europe doesn’t want to provide the arms to do it.

He’s concentrating on internal security, migration and drug trafficking, he has withdrawn from a large part of the overseas aid activity, as well as changing the tarrifs.

This is an America First policy and we should worry if it becomes a Fortress America policy and to hell with the rest.

Feel so sorry for my grandchildren and all youngsters who struggled through Covid into this unsafe world, not even safe in our own country now. I had the best of times, jobs, housing and no wars being born towards the end of WW2. They do not know any difference of course its their norm.I think I need two weeks out from any news as finding it overwhelming at the moment.

I find it frightening. I have some older friends who say seriously, " I was born in a war, and I now fear I will die during one."
I cannot see present day Britain rising to the challenge as they did in the 1940s. Far more likely to capitulate.

It isn’t inevitable, but it is getting more likely I think

Germany has already introduced voluntary conscription I think, and I can’t think of a singe reason other than they too think war is more likely.

I think also that it is urgent that Europe works as one unit over its defence. We have the decision making structure in place, we just need the leadership and urgency and willingness to fund this project.

Putin is undoubtedly banking on this not happening, and he is flexing his muscles in what he sees as his area of influence as agreed with Trump, who has no intention of providing any support this time around.

Lots of “thinks” 😊

The news tonight was truly frightening. Trump is gagging for war, his new best friend is dangling promises in front of him
and he is vain enough to think he means them. Ukraine was invaded by Russia yet is calling them Natzi. It is like Chamberlain going to see Hitler to pacify him, impossible because he too wanted Europe and war. I can't see a long term way out of this can anyone else? We wouldn't have a big enough army now, conscription wouldn't work because most of the population we have just wouldn't fight.
