That is such good news. Getting rid of sure start was one of the least intelligent things Cameron did although I still think that the referendum outdoes that by a million miles.

Good news indeed.

With the state of parenting ability at the moment, that’s probably a good idea.

Despite the multiple help centres which exist for all ages of children and for those with differing needs e.g. neurodivergence
the loss of Sure-Start is probably responsible for parents being unable to potty train children before school and the increasing number of children who start school unable to string a basic sentence together.

I wonder if there’s also some correlation between the loss of Sure Start and the rapid rise in problems such as ODD or ADHD?

With regard to the referendum, I hold the people who didn’t bother to vote at all (presuming that they would all have voted remain) as much responsible for Brexit as those who voted for Brexit. I voted remain, but if you didn’t vote, don’t complain.

The two large senior schools have kept their youth clubs open and run D of E schemes.

I appreciate that is not the case countrywide.

Let’s hope these initiatives are up and running sooner rather than later.

Not sure there is any correlation between some of these centres closing and more diagnosis of ADHD and neurodivergence. I think that is down to more awareness in nurseries, schools and GP’s.

I'm so glad Sure Start will be back. It was a lifeline for young children.

Excellent. It will take a few years to see the benefits, but we will as the chikdren start school better prepared.

Are they poor at parenting Eazybee or are they trying to juggle childcare with work and not perhaps living near family
(like the old days) and trying to eek out their earnings with pricy childcare and lack of facilities to help them

.... because they have been poorly parented. The purpose of sure start is to break into that cycle.

Whatever the 'parenting' style, it's not the children's fault.

The Sure Start centres nearest to my work closed because of lack of use by parents. Strangely enough they were in areas described as having the largest number of children in poverty.

The one down the road on the way I always drive past was always so busy, so I'm really glad.

Maybe attended depends on how they are run? the one I'm referring to, women (mostly rather than men sadly) always coming out laughing and nattering to each other.

If parents you saw, were using it, why wasn’t it left open same as the one GG13 mentioned? It evidently wasn’t a sweeping closure of all SureStarts.

The Sure Starts in my city were always busy with not enough places for everyone.

People that have been poorly parented usually end up doing the same. This is a subject that should be in the curriculum at school. In my school, many years ago, there was home economics and nutrition taught each week. My mother did everything in the home, I learnt the little I knew from school. My mother was a good cook and very clean and had her routine, but it didn't include teaching us how to cook, when I married, someone bought me a Good Housekeeping cook book as I knew nothing, a Vesta Curry was my limit. , I soon learnt after many disasters such as rare pork and very tough meat. Back then, women gave up work when they had a child until they started school but money was very tight indeed and we had each other as friends, very often walking to local playground or similar and we learnt from each other.

Think it is needed now, as a catch-up for the 'Covid kids'.
