This no way fits in with the narrative, "they are ALL......."?
Whose narrative, Wyllow?

I have not seen that written in posts on this thread.
Posters are mentioning extremists and, sadly, this is what some extremists of all kinds do.

Two posters and counting.

Wyllow. You said ALL ....

This is a time of sorrow, of grieving, not criticising other posters.

Wyllow3 Mon 15-Dec-25 10:06:13

I would just say, Freya that asking for a two state solution, which is supported widely the world over, is *not" supporting Hamas in any way.

foxie48 Mon 15-Dec-25 10:00:56

MartavTaurus Extremism is prevalent in this world and it comes in many different forms and often driven by social media.

Casdon Mon 15-Dec-25 09:36:32

I do like the sound of rose united glasses, I wish there were more of them in this world.

This horrific event in Australia shows that antisemitism is now universal. Sadly it has spread to every corner of the globe, and nowhere can Jews go about their daily lives without a feeling of immense fear and despair.

Almost worse than that, is that antisemitism is here to stay forever. It is timeless, being passed down the generations, as we see from this father to son example.

I'm so sorry for Australia. I'm so sorry for our world.

I'm just pondering on how an ordinary citizen can get hold of a semi automatic killing machine, unless through some dubious source.

What a terrible day for the Jewish community in Australia and in the wider sense, how these awful events resonate world wide in the escalating fear as to what will crop up next.

That brave man of Arabic origin, whose act of bravery was was so magnificent should be applauded. That Bonnie Tyler song "I need a hero" was humming away in my head when I read about him.

foxie48 Mon 15-Dec-25 08:45:27

What a dreadful event and it's reported that the shooters were father and son. The son had been investigated because of links to IS but thought not to be a threat.
I've watched the video of the son being disarmed by a member of the public. What bravery and he will have saved many lives by showing such courage. This man is, I understand, Ahmed Al Ahmed, a Syrian Muslim with two very young children who arrived in Australia in 2006 as a young man.

Another devastating attack on Jewish families, this time during a significant Jewish festival on a beach, rather than in a synagogue.

I read this morning that one of the murderers had stated alliance to Isis.

On a day like this people are upset and angry and trying to make sense of things. Hard for some to understand.

My heart goes out to your country nanna8

This is a terrible crime and so sad on a day of celebration. Perhaps now the growing anti Semitism in my country will be taken seriously. Stopping those dreadful pro Hamas marches would be a start plus much more security for the Jewish people. Many are frightened to send their children to the Jewish schools which is totally disgraceful. Not my Australia.
What a hero that man is - and he got shot for his pains.

Kate1949 Sun 14-Dec-25 23:12:14

Most people, of all colours, creeds and religions just want to get on with their lives and live peacefully. Unfortunately there are fanatics.

I think the world is finally waking up to the Islamist threat. Our weakness is their strength.

What is our weakness?

Our weakness is allowing known islamist terrorists, including a a hamas chief, who lives in a council house in London, to be free and roam our country planning goodness knows what. Judges allowing islamist murderers, rapists and thugs. Taking in an army of unidentified illegals nearly every day, no checks, just money and freedom to roam. I include the Palestinian mob, in the weakness, and starmer, now a Hamas friend, who recognises a non existent Palestinian state, . The hate you see on you tube from islamists on our strerts and in the mosques. This is our weakness. Others are seeing what is happening here, that is their strength.

And they warned us they were going to take over our country. We cannot say we were not warned.

Quite agree Sarnia. It's a sad world we live in now. My 2 daughters are in their 40's and neither have children. I'm so glad. I feel sad for children growing up this world nowadays.

I can understand your being glad about your children not having children of their own. But isn’t it terrible that anyone feels this way. What a world!

Exactly, Wyllow3. I wonder if that is why the name of the hero was released so quickly, just to make the point that they are not "all the same".

I just saw that clip on Sky News, what an incredibly brave thing to do. I wonder if Australia has a bravery award because he certainly deserves one.

Yes, he sure does deserve an award.

It's easy to see that his actions directly saved lives. Such a risk he took - this man is a bona fida hero.

Have people noticed that the hero also had an Islamic name? This no way fits in with the narrative, "they are ALL......."?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 14-Dec-25 21:33:10

Father (50, shot dead) and son (24, arrested). Licences for 6 guns and one of them was known to ASIO… seriously? Unbelievable.

Casdon Sun 14-Dec-25 21:30:11

Apparently the gunmen were father and son and the father is now dead.

I presume that means that means that there is no evidence trail on phones or computers, as they probably planned this in person. We may never know the background.

Wyllow3 Sun 14-Dec-25 21:28:24

Freya, imo you are using an appalling event that no one at all would condone to suggest that therefore all our Mosques are promoting such actions.

They are not. Call incidents out for what they are, please don't slip into Islamophobic generalisations.

(Like "Starmer, a Hamas friend". This is simply not the case, he does not support Hamas any more than the rest of us int he Labour Party)

We also have no evidence that Hamas themselves is behind it, as opposed to "Acting alone" they have been clearly identified as Terrorists of course at this point but not any connections

Its dangerous to spread misinformation at this point.

Maybe we shouldn’t allow those marches that are basically a cover for antisemitism.

Of course we shouldn’t, but our powers that be are too hopelessly wet to forbid them. IMO the govt. are terrified of coming across as in any way anti, or suspicious of, Muslims. It would seem that they must be pandered to at all costs, extremist or anti-Semitic sentiments, or not.

sodapop Sun 14-Dec-25 21:06:23

Smileless2012 Sun 14-Dec-25 21:00:59
