This is the map, it looks like it’s green space directly behind the beach, with a car park over part of the frontage, the barbecue area where the group were.

Archer Park, I think.

I think it’s one of those green spaces that runs onto the beach Allira, where people have their picnics etc. where it’s flat, and can look down to the sea.

There's a road either side, I think. It's a long time since I went there but I remember being surprised at how small the beach was.

I just saw that clip on Sky News, what an incredibly brave thing to do. I wonder if Australia has a bravery award because he certainly deserves one.

Yes, he sure does deserve an award.

It's easy to see that his actions directly saved lives. Such a risk he took - this man is a bona fida hero.

What an awful day. I woke up to the BBC news headline Brown’s university had been attacked, this was then surpassed by Bondi.

There is a flat grass area between the car park and the beach where the municipal barbecues are, if I remember correctly.

The marches should never have been allowed, but people who said so were ridiculed, and worse.

Oreo Sun 14-Dec-25 17:33:54

France banned them, they never even started there. If only we had done the same.

Maybe we shouldn’t allow those marches that are basically a cover for antisemitism.

I agree the marches should be banned.

That was totally unnecessary Oreo

I haven’t said anything that isn’t necessary.

Yes, I agree, there’s nowhere to run on a beach, and there would have been lots of children there on a Sunday afternoon too. Awful.

I don't think it happened on the beach itself, I'm not sure but think it was in a park just behind the beach but still difficult to escape.

Great minds think alike Casdon.
I think also there is something so vulnerable about being on a beach, so horrific.

Casdon Sun 14-Dec-25 16:46:54

We were typing at the same time Galaxy, saying the same thing I think. There are some real heroes in these situations.

Purplepixie Sun 14-Dec-25 16:46:18

I don't think there is anything good in any of this Casdon, but I do think it is important to recognise bravery when it occurs, bravery is quite rare I think and I admire it because I don't think it is a quality I would possess.

He did get shot himself and went to hospital; a report said that he needs surgery.

If so, I hope he will be all right.
He is a hero.

Australian media have identified the bystander who tackled one of the two gunmen as fruit shop owner Ahmed al-Ahmed, 43, Reuters reports.

Al-Ahmed was filmed charging a gunman from behind, grappling with him and wresting a rifle from his hands.

"There are many, many people alive tonight as a result of his bravery," said Chris Minns, premier of New South Wales state where Sydney is located, calling the bystander "a genuine hero."

I think the world is finally waking up to the Islamist threat. Our weakness is their strength.

What is our weakness?
