I understand that Ukraine will be needing a rebuild after all the terrible bombing! However I don’t understand why this rebuild has started (ski resort) when the war hasn’t ended? What is going on that we are not aware of?? 🤔🤔

Apologies it’s Bukovel Resort which is being modernised.

Goro is the new resort.

It’s not as simple as that, Russia has threatened repercussions and Belgium is in a difficult position, Kier should stop poking around and take Russia seriously, Putin is not one to let things go. It’s not as simple as release the money to Ukraine. So no I do not hope the money is released . I am also very confused that Ukraine is building a huge ski holiday area, I am unsure who is paying for this? But seems all rather strange to me that this is even happening. Governments and politicians have gotten worse that’s for sure.

£1.8 billion, due to open 2028/29 ski season.

Major investor OKKO Group along with other foreign investors.

It is in the West, Carpathian Mountians.

There is also modernisation of its Goro resort.

I suspect - although haven’t read about it yet- that Hungary would almost certainly refused, being up Putin’s a…s., and it probably needed a full yes vote to be able to go through.

Nor a wonderful story of EU solidarity in refusing to indemnify Belgium. The 'loan' is a stop gap measure which fails to fill the gap. It is imho never likely to be repaid.

Agree, Whitewave but not quite sure how WE offload him.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 19-Dec-25 08:30:50

Apparently the €90bn loan represents 2/3 of Ukrainian needs to 2027.
Ukraine’s allies - including the U.K. are expected to provide the rest of the loan.

It is proposed that Ukraine will only repay the loan, if and when Russia pays reparation for the enormous amount of damage it has inflicted on Ukraine.

It gets more complicated because Trump (his nose is never far away sniffing money) intends to use and work with Russia to use the assets as investment involving USA companies (probably with the name Trump somewhere in the company’s title). His wrath will also be something we will have to deal with.

It really is time we off-loaded him!!

Yes just saw that

€90 billion.

Tbh I think that Europe must see it as an investment in its own security.

Belgium can stop worrying. The EU have agreed to fund Ukraine. 🇺🇦👏👏👏👏

OK thanks, I missed that part 👍

As long as it stops at the legal route.

The Belgium PM has indicated that if the rest of Europe is willing to share any future outcome, then he is not adverse to releasing the reparation funds.

🤞

Any future outcome what is he indicating here?

Russia has threatened to sue Belgium for theft of assets.

Maremia

They say they are worried about being sued by Russia. Everyone else is scared of being mauled by Russia.

Being sued by Russia is the least of their worries if they don’t release that money.
Call their bluff. By the time Russia and the EU get the case to court Putin will be pushing up the daisies.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 18-Dec-25 18:37:02

I think they are in a rather precarious situation.

Those against Russia and for Ukraine obviously want the funds released in a way which is legal to help Ukraine.

Russia’s definition of what is legal and illegal is somewhat fluid.

This could lead to attacks by Russia on EU countries, is that what the west really wants…

Belgium has history of putting a spanner in the works.
EU Canada trade deal. Trudeau on the plane to Brussels and had to turn back because Belgian said no, not having it.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 18-Dec-25 17:17:01

I do so hope that Belgium can see its way to releasing the Russian assets as reparation to Ukraine.

It will not only be helping Ukraine, but certainly Europe. Putin must be stopped.
