Greyhounds are bred to chase but make wonderful pets. I'm sure retired foxhounds can be socialised too.
As a vegetarian I cannot see the difference between ordinary abattoirs and those for kosher or halal approved meat.

They should have followed the rules! Trails laid across fields of pregnant ewes?? Trails laid across main roads?? I think not. Foxhounds in general do not get to make old age - I have never seen an old foxhound. What do you honestly think happens to them? Why are hounds needed at all in such huge numbers anyway? We are not in the dark ages.

Maybe she didn't see the fox they were chasing suffering from sheer exhaustion and fear Susie, which may well have died even though it was spared being ripped apart by the hounds.

Their escape roots and places of safety are blocked before the hunt begins. It's barbaric.

I worked with a woman who hunted and she said it was a bonus if they even saw a fox while riding.

Halal slaughtering in industrial quantities needed in the UK is an abomination.

You should be equally worried about schechita slaughter
(kosher, for the Jewish market)

According to the RSPCA

Around 88% of animals slaughtered in the UK for Halal are stunned first.
All animals slaughtered under the Shechita (for Kosher) are non-stunned.

I just wish imported eggs and bacon products from abroad were held to the same standards.

The animal rights campaigners are correct. We have so many dogs with behavioural problems some linked to disgusting puppy farms

They are worried they would lose too many votes. This government should be ashamed of itself not to include this in their 'animal welfare bill'. So they are not concerned about the welfare of ALL animals

Unfortunately hounds do not differentiate between the trail laid and a fox scent along the way.
Very much like the government then.

It will be interesting to see the protection of wildlife in the light of the planning going on.

Just to add - drag hunts have existed since the 19th century, long before the hunting ban. Trail hunts emerged after the ban and have always been a cynical move to carry on business as usual.

You can still enjoy seeing horses and hounds if you look for the nearest ‘clean boot’ hunt. They use bloodhounds to follow the scent of a human runner and the worst the hounds do is lick the human to death when found. They will not be distracted by a fox or any other creature.

I also note that the plan is to ban trail hunting, and not, as far as I know, drag hunting which uses an aniseed scent and not a scent which is animal based (usually fox urine).

The hunts have had plenty of time to adapt their practices and ensure they comply with the law, but they have continued to act as if they are above it. Hence they continue to use terrier men (for what?) and to train foxhounds using captive fox cubs. They’ve had this coming for a long time, although sadly I have my doubts that the government will follow through.

All mostly a diversion from the failings of the present government. And I hope this doesn't mean hare is off the menu.

I'm afraid you will be unsuccessful , concern for wild life always seems to go out of the window when it ceases to be politically expedient. As I said, the hypocrisy is mind blowing!

Glad about the farrowing crates. Not a life for any animal.
