The Supreme Court ruled by a strong majority that Trump cannot send the
National Guard to Chicago.

Hope they don't get cold feet, and back down.

He'll find some spurious reason to sack the judges.

Trump has probably been studying the "Ferdinand Marcos Book of DIY Government".

No surely not... that involves reading!

NotSpaghetti Fri 26-Dec-25 09:14:07

...and someone else's ideas!

I was very very glad to hear this, thank you Daisy Anne

I decided to look up to see how CNN presented it:

edition.cnn.com/2025/12/23/politics/supreme-court-blocks-trump-national-guard-chicago

“This is a significant repudiation of President Trump’s efforts to use federal troops to supplement immigration enforcement especially in Democratic-led jurisdictions,” said Steve Vladeck, CNN Supreme Court analyst and professor at Georgetown University Law Center. “It’s hard to see how the administration can continue to use this obscure 1908 authority to try to deploy federalized National Guard troops.”

Vladeck described the decision as “by far the most significant defeat the Supreme Court has handed Trump all year.”

I can understand the Supreme Court rebellion, for Trump is trampling on the balance of the relationship between federal and state law, which is an important principle for right wingers too.

Maybe I'm a sentimental old lefty - but this is the USA that I want to have back! (Its not a brilliant recording, its a rare singing collaboration)

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 26-Dec-25 14:44:11

Definitely a result!
Mr Trump's last few midnight rants have become increasingly loathsome, referring to a television presenter he dislikes as a " dead man walking".
What an inspiring Christmas message for the people of the USA from their leader.

Wyllow3 Fri 26-Dec-25 22:43:45

Chocolatelovinggran, the midnight Christmas Day address on Radio 4 was given by the Bishop of Washington, Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde.

It was as incisive as was her original address just after Trump's election.

Listen to it on sounds - its not long - very moving.

Truly dreadful man, Trump. Please let his day of reckoning come soon.

Wyllow3 Sat 27-Dec-25 07:50:51

Hear hear Allsorts. As a representative for his country, the message sent out is disgraceful. Lying, bullying on a massive scale...I won't ever forgive him the way he treated Zelensky, and much more.

Short video - Richard Branson on Donald Trump - brilliant

Well said, Richard Branson.

Jimmy Kimmel send a lovely Christmas message from the USA to the UK.

He was the comedian whose programme was cancelled by Trump and then reinstated by popular demand.

Maremia Sat 27-Dec-25 10:53:12

I saw that on Facebook. 'Give us three years' he said.

Anyone worrying about freedom of speech at this stage doesn't actually care one jot about freedom of speech.

I had not seen that Wyllow. That is 100% true for me as well. And I can only speak for myself of course. grin

I wonder if the SC didn't just rule against him on this case in order to soften the blow of the tariffs case when he wins that one?

Conspiracy theory at this point, of course, but refunding tariffs is going to be messy business.
