Grossly insulting your political opponents is nothing new. I was interested to read that in 1948 Aneurin Bevan said of the Conservatives that they were "Lower than vermin."

I am sure there are plenty more examples. It's just that Trump seems to vilify the left in the most disgusting way every time he makes a speech about anything, which seems to be a daily occurrence.

Aneurin Bevan was constantly in trouble, but he was more erudite.

"No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party. So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin."

I think every generation of politicians has a share of potty mouths, but they aren’t generally actually potty, unlike pot US himself. .

To be fair Bevan was intelligent and articulate. He genuinely cared about welfare and improving conditions for everyone regardless of income. Quite the opposite of Trump in fact.
