USA Issues Threat To Greenland

If Greenland was to associate itself with another country other than Denmark, Canada makes absolute sense. It's closer to Canada, and as the people are largely Inuit that aligns with the Inuit population of northern Canada.

I am surprised that there has not been any mention of Canada having any interest in their neighbour Greenland. They will have some sympathy with the threat of Trump to take over their country

I read somewhere that if Denmark were to decide to part with Greenland, Canada has (by an old treaty) "first dibs" on acquiring it. As Canada has also been threatend by Trump - but is large enough to tell him to get lost - perhaps they might be inclined to support the Greenlanders?

Off piste - but looking at ICE - they are a version of the brown shirts I think. Instead of targeting Jews without impunity they are ostensibly targeting immigrants, but also anyone else getting in their way with impunity.

Yes Cossy that’s my experience too. I didn’t necessarily expect that young Greenlanders would be “shallow”.

It was just something I wondered about, leading to me doing a bit of research. If I have a question in my own mind, I always like to probe into it.

Beyond supporting Greenland independance the rest of Europe should keep quiet and let Denmark and the US talk this through. NATO is more important than Greenland, in the unlikely event of a military take over of Greenland what is Europe going to do, it’s far too weak to intervene, sanctions against the US?, in your dreams. When congress gets its power back it will reverse any take over, if a deal is reached with Denmark for US control in some way that will likely remain.

The US is doing what China and Russia does - ignore international law and there is nothing Europe can do about it. The Danes are showing bravado telling their forces to fight, a waste of time the US can just walk in.

The biggest fear that I have for the Greenlanders, is that they will almost certainly become impoverished under USA rule.

Then they just have to roll out, country by country.
