Did anyone on here actually listen to Robert Jenrick's speech this evening? Can you actually say that what he described about this country today was untrue?

And why is that: the party that he was a member of well and truely f%£#@d it up. 🤬

I like Kemi Badenoch and hope she does well. She speaks well, is obviously very intelligent and if I was a voter I’d prefer her and her party to Nigel Farage who is an unknown quantity. I think Starmer is the worst PM the UK has ever had in my lifetime.

Kendrick’s contribution to long-term contracts for housing irregular migrants had actually been approved by Jenrick while he was immigration minister.
He’ll fit in very well with Farage, who described Jenrick as a hypocrite and tweeted “Jenrick is a fraud,” to his millions of followers.

I don't think it's just what I perceive as the state of the country, it's there for all to see. Yes I do think that Reform with the people they are assembling will make a difference and pull back us back from the brink. We certainly can't go on with Labour and the Conservatives have obviously had their time.

I agree Marg75 and in recent months more and more people I talk to feel the same. Both Labour and Conservatives have done sweet FA about the migrant crisis and that really is what upsets so many people for so many reasons. I have also noticed that more and more phone ins on radio stations and TV are allowing calls from people who worry that people arriving here on dinghies are being giving preference over born and bred Brits.

It is time for a change without doubt.

We are not by any stretch ‘at the brink’ whatever that means. The UK is going through hard times, as is the rest of the world. Reform, with its ragbag of mavericks and defectors, does not hold any keys to our future success as a country in my opinion, and I think if a few more Tories from the right of the party defect, the centre right will prevail and the Tories will be back in business.

But that's debate isn't it? What one person perceives as true, another may see as something else. I think what he said about our country today is true in my eyes, you may not see that, but sadly neither the Conservatives nor the Labour party are capable of doing anything about it.

Every word of it was true though.

What you see as true could be seen as lies or propaganda aimed at furthering Jenrick’s career to others.
I rarely use the word ‘true’ in a debate because my truth may not be yours. It is not an absolute.

Writing on X, the former Brexit secretary said: "It’s entirely up to Robert Jenrick what he does next with his career. But he should stop blaming others for the state of the country."

Listing Jenrick's former government jobs, Davis said: "After serving as Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Minister of State for Health and Minister of State for Immigration, he is as responsible as anyone else.
"Particularly considering that he chose to walk out of government after not being promoted by Rishi Sunak, he now attacks from the sidelines the colleagues he abandoned," Davis said.
"Unlike him, some of his colleagues chose not to serve in governments that were doing the wrong thing."

I did, how an ex minister who was responsible personally, and directly involved in running this country until 18 months ago thought he’d get away without censure in saying what he did is beyond me.

In 2022, Farage wrote in The Telegraph:

Minutes before Prime Minister's Questions this week, it was announced that the little-known Conservative MP for Bury South, Christian Wakeford, had defected to Labour. Welcoming this new addition to his ranks, the Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer, gleefully introduced Wakeford as the “honourable member for Bury South”. I beg to differ. Wakeford’s actions are deeply dishonourable and an insult to Red Wall voters in his constituency, many of whom voted Conservative for the first time in 2019 only after wrestling with their conscience.

I had hoped that we had set a new standard in politics and in public life. Clearly, I was wrong.Wakeford's behaviour and sense of entitlement is despicable. He seems to think that every Conservative voter in Bury South voted for him personally. In truth, very few MPs have much of a personal vote. General elections now tend to be decided by people voting for or against the main party leaders. I hope sincerely that the Labour Party in Bury South de-selects Wakeford. We don't need people like him in politics today.

On that basis, people who voted for Kruger and Jenrick did not vote for Farage. Both should now submit to a by-election.

Farage, in the wake of Christian Wakeford’s floor-crossing, called for party defectors to submit to by-elections.

Different tune now.

IMO he's an opportunist of the worst sort. He's not following his beliefs, he's following what he believes will be best for him. Is this really the sort of person anyone would want as an MP?

I would never trust a politician who defected.

Many Conservative voters talked about 'giving another party a try' before the last election because they were sick of all the in-fighting and duplicitous manoeuvring behind the scenes.

Jenrick has taken it with him and will infect Reform.

Well, I don't think Jenrick was a ^has-been trying to revive his career by joining Reform. He was a member of the Opposition and in the Shadow Cabinet, yes, but surely more influential than joining Reform?

If anyone more jump aboard, perhaps it might sink.

Will he now stand for re-election?

All these old has beens trying to revive their careers like Nadine Dorries, Jenrick, Zahawi are tainted with the failed Tory brush all they need now is Liz Truss .

It’s interesting that in the latest YouGov poll Reform have the lowest rating for the last nine months, and that in Wales a different poll for the May Senedd elections sees Plaid romping ahead of Reform in the polls. These polls were both taken before the latest defections, so it will be interesting to see if the position changes over the next month.

Happy to see weasels join the Reform party, it's their natural home. Honestly, just look at who have defected. There's not a decent, honest person amongst them, they are all tainted in one way or another.

How can people be taken in by a bunch of sanctimonious ex-Tories who claim to be "putting my own ambition aside" in order to "save" Britain? Are they doing us a favour? Of course they're not.
