this must be creating family dynamic difficulties and stress
Indeed. I did wince a bit when the BBC reporter (??) this evening said something along the lines that this is far more significant to the family than the King's, and Catherine's, cancer.
I think the King probably realises this in terms of the Monarchy, but it must be soul destroying for him as a person in his current situation.

Former Prince Andrew has just been arrested in Norfolk
(802 Posts)Arrested on suspicion of misconduct in Public office.
Sometimes ‘not knowing’ means failing in your role eg as King. One measure of carrying out some roles properly is that you knew or should have known.
I think the rest of the Royal Family should carry on with their duties whilst Andrew is investigated. They are not implicated so it is business as usual.. The last years have been one thing after another for the family. The King has lost his youngest son to estrangement which is hard enough, now all this scandal with his brother.

He hasn’t been arrested on anything to do with underage or trafficked women as some people seem to think.
I don’t think “some people” don’t know WHY he’s been arrested.
I think “some people” feel it’s a pity he’s not being held accountable for other acts and potential crimes too.
For me, if he’s found guilty of the misconduct crimes and is duly punished I’ll be happy, however I’ll never ever forget what an absolute entitled, arrogant sleazebag he is!
It’s really rather tedious the way in which some on this thread ( often monarchists) completely rewrite and reinterpret other people’s posts, addressing fictious comments and getting all outraged 😂😂😂
Yes, I hope and presume that the abuse aspects of his activities are being pursued.
I'm wondering what the effects are going to be in terms of corrupt trade dealings with the rich and powerful in the USA if significant news relating to that comes out.
The King should carry on. Not as if "nothing has happened" but with Royal duties, he's played a valuable diplomatic role recently, enough constant press pestering while he goes around.
I'm another secret fan of the police reality programmes!

I’m shocked at the shock being presented by some of news presenters that this person has been arrested.
I’m more shocked that young vulnerable girls were abused and degraded not just by these men but in somecases the general public too who couldn’t or wouldn’t take off the blindfold because of Who was being accused.
It was always going to be moneyor misconductthat would open the doors to justice.
These corrupt powerful men are fooling usthe pubic and laughing in our faces at how easy it is to put on a decent suit and fool the masses.
Delighted to hear the king has responded.
Oh how I agree!

Neither you nor I have any idea how much the royal family know or were involved in Andrew's actions and behaviour.
No reason whatsoever for them to plead for forgiveness unless evidence is provided that they were complicit. They are not responsible for his actions.
.
Who suggested pleading for forgiveness?

Personally I don't think it's odd or in poor taste that it's business as usual for the RF. It shows the RF calendar continues with or without AMW and whatever due legal process he is facing. For the RF and the country it shows "separation".
The process could take a long time before if and when the matter gets to court. Personally I feel the RF would not want to take the risk of the public feeling that perhaps we don't need the RF after all. I would imagine they are watching this play out with huge concern about the risk RF reputational damage.
Plus at the end of the day K Charles is AMW's brother- I have no idea if they are close but like all families this must be creating family dynamic difficulties and stress.
I entirely agree!

Oh yes.
Sackcloth and ashes and probably cancel Christmas as well.
No need to be so sarcastic. Scaling back doesn’t equal cancelling Christmas. . And the senior royals are not innocent in this whole shitshow. They have at best turned blind eyes and at worst enabled and facilitated. A bit of mea culpa wouldn’t come amiss .
Off with his head. Wasn't the treacherous brother of Edward the 4th executed by drowning in a vat of Malmsey wine? Perhaps gin would be more suitable here for this truly dreadful man.

Have just read that the King was at the opening of London Fashion week just hours after Andrew’s arrest, it might just be me but I think it is in poor taste for the royal family to act as if it is business as usual. Surely there should be a period of the royals keeping a low profile whilst Andrew faces due process. It just feels a bit odd.
Why?
They are not guilty, it would imo look worse if they were to pause duties.
Oh yes.

I would image the royal family are distressed about all aspects of this case but will continue to do their duty as they see it.
I think planned events should go ahead and as has been said, this is going to run and run. However they should scale back on some of the more frivolous extravagant aspects of their lives

I don't agree with this. It is Andrew, not the wider Royal family that is accused of a specific crime when he was a Trade Envoy/ Trade Ambassador , whatever.
I see no reason for them to change their schedules and they would be letting down the people/ceremonies/ towns where the ceremonies were due to be held if they didn't turn up.
I do not think the king need change his plans. This is going to run and run and he cannot do nothing till it is resolved. He has issued a statement endorsing the due process of the law - there is nothing more he can do.

Petra 17.15 : "Passport or no passport. There are numerous ways that Andrew could leave the country".
If Bail is imposed and IF made subject to electronic tagging that would be difficult to flee UK - but not impossible.
If bail conditions are not imposed and AMW is not subject to any order prohibiting him to leave the country he is free to do so. If he is subject to bail conditions prohibiting to leave the country and decides to flee, is successful then an international warrant will be issued for his arrest. The UK police then will liaise and work with other country/countries police force/s where they think he may be, to facilitate arrest.
But there are many countries we have no extradition treaties with although UAE comes first to mind

Well, anything the King does is organised months in advance and preparations by the hosts will have taken time and money.
Very difficult to cancel.

Very helpful summary LemonJam, lots of unknown information in there. Would they make him surrender his passport?
