Israel closes all Gaza borders.

Yes - taking the chance to slip it under the radar - Israel has closed the only real open border, that of Rafah. where, as it was, those needing urgent medical aid were getting through, and ready on the other side.

There is no reason whatsoever that I can see to justify this closure and punitive to the most vulnerable.

It was not just an open border, as it was, it was policed by the IDF.

Shame on you, Netanyahu, more tyranny from this regime. Defend your country by all means, but why this?

Fallingstar Fri 06-Mar-26 20:06:09

The election will be late October, but Netanyahu could bring the date forwards if he feels his military campaigns have been successful, certainly his recent murderous attacks on Iran with partner in crime Trump has boosted his standing with his own Likud party and far right cronies in the Knesset. But many Israelis blame him for putting the lives of hostages on the line for his bloodthirsty ambitions, and for destabilising the region so that Israel has become less secure. He also still has criminal charges to answer. In short his popularity is not being boosted in the same way with many Israeli voters.
But then we never thought Trump would get in again.
I am an atheist but would pray to any God that Netanyahu loses spectacularly at the next election.
Of course he had to go for Iran before his time runs out.

Nobody whining about Hamas them?

It makes me sick.

Well I imagine Hamas must have been in the school that I am convinced Israel rather then the US hit in Iran.

Tuliptree Fri 06-Mar-26 20:09:50

I just googled and the election could also be delayed if heaven forbid the war was still going on

Yes there is also that. 😩

Exactly. A forever war.

How long are the Israelis being prepared to be led by the nose,?

Anniebach Fri 06-Mar-26 20:24:26

Many threads on Gaza, all saying Netanyahu started the war to prevent being on trial, now it seems he could be out In October!

Not if Israel is at war.

That is the point.

I’ve heard some very sad interviews with medics about the inability of aid organisations to get really vital medical supplies and equipment through. Apparently there is only one functioning CT scanner in Gaza. Plus the Israeli govt makes it almost impossible for people to leave for life saving treatment outside of Gaza,

Maremia Fri 06-Mar-26 21:32:53

Another form of war crime.

silverlining48 Mon 09-Mar-26 15:56:15

As is what’s been going on, hardly reported on, in the occupied West Bank.

Maremia Mon 09-Mar-26 16:42:14

That has also been declared illegal.
Israel should have cleared up it's own 'back yard' of wrong-doing, before starting a war in the Middle East

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 09-Mar-26 16:48:08

sixandahalf, I am saddened that you describe people as " whining" when they are referring to the closing of a border preventing medical aid being supplied to men, women, and children.

Very sorry, I am so upset I am becoming emotional and incoherent.

I was refering to people here who constantly bring up the " What about Hamas" thing.

Nobody supports terrorists. What is happening is barbaric. Thos poor, poor people.

I'm experiencing it as rather attention seeking first to post "I might be banned" and then another which again, seeks to provoke.

It's provocative enough on its own, sadly, just sticking to the facts.

Maremia Mon 09-Mar-26 17:55:09

I don't think, from her explanation, that sixandahalf meant what has been interpreted.
See her Post, just upthread.

sixandahalf Mon 09-Mar-26 18:01:02

Thanks Maremia, It's been a bad day.

I feel afraid really.

Maremia Mon 09-Mar-26 18:02:42

You are welcome, and yes it has.

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 09-Mar-26 18:49:21

Understood, sixandahalf. My mistake.
We're all rightly horrified by what is happening.

Wyllow3 Mon 09-Mar-26 19:37:55

Agreed, I had actually posted whilst her post appeared and had not seen it - 5 mins after - as I was taking some time to consider what to say.

In all the time I've been on gransnet, this subject has often deteriorated into a slanging match and I started this thread wanting to stick, and try and stay with, continuing highlighting the plight of the people.

Current reports on adequacy of food aid:

Current Humanitarian Status (March 2026)
Widespread Hunger: Approximately 1.6 million people (77% of the population) still face "crisis" levels of hunger or worse.
Catastrophic Conditions: Over 100,000 people remain in "catastrophe-level" hunger (IPC Phase 5), the most extreme level of food insecurity.

Aid Gap: The UN states that at least 500 trucks per day are needed to meet humanitarian needs, but actual deliveries remain far below this threshold.

Reduced Rations: Due to limited supplies, the World Food Programme (WFP) has had to reduce food rations, sometimes providing parcels intended for only 10 days at a time.
UN News

Major Barriers to Aid Delivery
Restricted Access: Only two border crossings (Kerem Shalom and Kissufim) are currently operational, creating a bottleneck for supplies.

Regional Conflict Impacts: Recent escalations in the regional conflict *(notably involving Iran) *have led to the decline of crossing operations and further reductions in aid imports

Infrastructure Destruction: Over 50% of warehouses and storage facilities in Gaza have been destroyed, making it impossible to maintain a strategic food stockpile.

Winter Challenges: Flooding and freezing temperatures have exacerbated the crisis, destroying the meagre belongings of displaced families and making aid distribution more difficult.

This summary is from this page, and the sources of the summary are to the right.

I also noted that of course a number of organisations were banned, including Medicine Sans Frontiere: which organisations are still left?

Despite risks to their lives and a lack of food, the Palestine Red Crescent Society and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have been working tirelessly with the resources they have, day in and day out to help the people of Gaza.

Hospitals open: see
www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=how+many+hospitals+open+in+gaza&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

We can give money to the Red Cross in Gaza: read about this here ( I previously gave to the MSF Gaza appeal)

Maremia Mon 09-Mar-26 21:27:45

Shameful, but at least some are still talking about it.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 10-Mar-26 08:29:33

I suspect that Mr Netanyahu will expect this to slip under the radar with events in Iran dominating newsfeeds.

Maremia Tue 10-Mar-26 08:47:17

Thanks for the link Wyllow. Our local Oxfam shop still collects for Gaza.

BeatleNo1fan Thu 12-Mar-26 16:05:39

Yes. There can't be an election while a war is happening.

valdavi Thu 12-Mar-26 20:29:38

I don't think Trump's attention span will allow him to sustain the war until october (thankfully) and Lebanon are not at war with Israel, so that honestly shouldn't count.
