I am on a cruise with a lot of people from different countries at the moment. I was having a swim when I came across a small group of American women loudly extolling the virtues of ‘ wonderful Donald Trump’ who is ‘ a decisive businessman, just what we needed’ Strewth and stone the crows, I swam off quicksmart, but it made me think how very differently some of us look at things. Maybe they are right but not from my point of view of view.

nanna8 Sat 14-Mar-26 07:18:56

There are some noticeably rude people on this cruise and I know it sounds racist ( well I suppose it is ) but they are all from the same country. No prizes for guessing .. I think maybe it is just a cruiser tendency because we have met many more of that nationality off the cruise who are lovely people.

We cannot fathom the minds of such who support pedaphiles.

It is truly horrifying what Trump & Epstein & the gang have a history of what they had done to innocent souls.

We do not know anyone in Spain who supports pedaphiles or Trump. ( My husband is a Madrid native & I am French married 32 years and living in The Madrid Capital. )

Yes and Spain made their position crystal clear. Well Done Sanchez.

Seven pages about Mandelson in the archives if you scroll down a bit, and a brand new one just started.
My apologies, nanna, for digressing.

You have my pardon Freya.

We were taught to never ever to discuss politics, sex, religion or money in polite society.

Which means that everything has its place, and their are many places where we can, uite reasonably discuss all four - and in public - such as on GN.

DrWatson Fri 13-Mar-26 02:51:21

For Pomgirl -- your logic got polluted somewhere, it certainly DOES mean they are wrong. Yes, they have THEIR opinion, but USA opinions are often framed by their appalling base 'education' system, and the insular nature of their news reporting means that many know nothing of foreign affairs.

You could point to his ill-informed Tariffs chaos, his ludicrous attempts to annexe Canada & Greenland, and his campaign promise to end the Ukraine war "on day one". Etc etc.

The Orange Baboon saw a big gap at the top of the Republican party, round about 2014, and started making moves towards becoming PotUS, firstly needing a switch from being chummy with the Obamas and his initial moves towards the Democrats. It helped that even by American political 'standards' (haha!) he is a consummate fraud & conman, and a liar to an Olympic scale.

He regards being President as free licence to be an Emperor, doesn't understand the checks & balances in their political system, and takes criticism in much the same way as a demented spoilt child, being told that no you can't set fire to next door's cat.

A shrewd guy called H L Mencken, roughly 100 years ago, published quite a few witty thoughts, one was “As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”.

Another was "nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public".

So my siblings and myself never have. Nobody's business after all and saves any jealousy or arguments.

It's a good rule to live by.

Yes, my late mother said exactly that. She was a very wise woman.

Allira - I find most US cruise passengers are naturally loud. They don’t seem to have a volume control..…

He was voted in by a majority unfortunately. What I can't get my head around us WOMEN voting for him

Same here. After he said that awful thing about 'grabbing them by the pussy' I was absolutely appalled that any woman would vote for him.

A colleague was in America at the time Trump was first elected, and was travelling extensively on business. She said that everywhere she went, without fail, people were horrified that he had been elected, and were asking each other how on earth it had happened.

Delene100 Thu 12-Mar-26 15:10:27

I agree. He is now using his position as President to make millions for himself and family members. I also despise the fact he has given key government positions to his sons and son in Law who are not experienced in those fields.

Trump is an appalling “businessman”. He inherited millions from his father and managed to lose it several times over.

Why discussing sex, politics or religion is “rude” I cannot possibly fathom?

Perhaps very loudly in a small swimming pool on a cruise liner when on holiday overseas might be considered rude, Cossy!
Others may disagree, fair enough.

Well, I think it’s misguided and speaking very loudly in cruise ship whilst others are away on holiday is a bit and inconsiderate, but these are USA female Trump supporters 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Nuff said!!

And I did just say that 😀

In fact, a group of women loudly extolling the virtues of their POTUS when in a swimming pool on holiday somewhere miles from their home is just plain rude

Ooops Start again Cossy!

Don't get involved in another country's politics as you don't live there. It will only backfire and cause animosity on your holiday. Maybe Trump has made their life better. I've got to say if I had a choice between Trump and Starmer I really think I would pick Trump. He's sorting out the drug dealers and gangs, and illegal immigrants which is more than what Starmer is doing. Tight control on his borders too. No I don't agree with a lot he's done but some things are better than what's happening here.

I’m sorry but I cannot agree with a single word you’ve just said!

Have you forgotten the ICE murders, the way Trump talks about many other nations, including ours, how he is accused of many crimes, the rabble he organised last time he lost office, how many people have died or suffered as a direct result of his policies, how he speaks to and about women and disabled people, I could go on, but I simply don’t have the time or the inclination.

To say you’d rather have Trump than Starmer says nothing wrong about Starmer, but everything about your views and beliefs.

Don't get involved in another country's politics as you don't live there.
Well, nanna8 didn't because she wants to enjoy her holiday.

I wonder where it is? Do they go round each cruise destination comparing it unfavourably with the U S of A, I wonder?

Should we ask for all the threads about politics in other countries to be deleted, do you think, sazz1?

Really? What a dull and possibly shallow world you must all inhabit.

I was brought up to question and challenge all things I feel are wrong, I was brought up to speak up for myself and others, how to debate respectively and to try and see both sides of any argument.

I was told is was rude to ask any individual how much money they have, how much they earn and a particular cost of a purchase, especially a present, but I wasn’t told discussing money and finances in other ways, ie country’s finances or budgeting is rude, because it isn’t!

Why discussing sex, politics or religion is “rude” I cannot possibly fathom?

The Mandelson files are already being discussed on another Thread.
This Thread is about that old man with dementia, Donald Trump.

I beg your pardon for responding to a comment. Are you the administrator. Until they stop me from replying to pertinent question/comment, I shall carry on and do so.

I have yet to discover where the Mandelson files are being discussed on Gnet.

No-one seems particularly willing to disclose the secret...

Trump is a man/child with a huge ego! Yuk! His ego was bruised when he wasn't nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Congress then voted against him stating the tariffs he inflicted internationally were illegal and he had to remove the. He then made a pouting announcement that he could start wars send missiles anywhere I chose but they won't let me apply tariffs. Severely punctured ego now....so he made a pact with Netanyahu to bomb Iran and Netanyahu could obliterate Lebanon. He has never had any understanding of his position or democracy. I'm glad Starmer took a measured approach and didn't immediately enter this war. Horrific worldwide consequences. The Iranians will never surrender to him. Their beliefs are we win either way as death to them is martyrdom. I only wish someone could stop them. It is an illegal war. You probably did the best thing and swam away....though not sure I could have.

👏👏👏👏👏

*The Iranians will never surrender to him*

Aren't they all dancing on the streets in jubilation?

A great many were, but police have told them there will be dire repercussions for them if there’s any criticism on the streets about the regime.
