PO scandal victim dies aged 67 before getting full compensation 😢

Such a crying shame. Why the delay in compensation. It's just shocking.

Very, very sad, that poor man who has suffered so much because of a corrupt company and it's managers.
It took a TV show to get things moving but what will it take to finish the whole matter and pay compensation NOW to all those who have had their own and their family's lives disrupted and have waited so long for a semblance of compensation.

Yes it is far from over but it really should have been over a long time ago. Heads in the PO and Fujitsu shouldn’t just roll but as I have said prison sentences should be handed out because there were people who KNEW what was going on and tried to cover it up. They should be charged with negligent manslaughter for those who committed suicide at the very least.
And in name of all that is holy those poor beggars should get the compensation they deserve which in any case can never make up for decades spent fighting to clear their names.

I've always thought that any compensation or refunds should be paid into the Estate of the deceased.

If they had a partner and/or children then they too would have suffered and deserve to inherit what he or she was owed.

Also, why on earth haven't Fujitsu been Court ordered to put their hands in their pockets? It was their faulty products that started the whole sorry mess after all.
And why have they continued to be given new contracts?

And as usual those at the top are reluctant to resolve this to the satisfaction of the victims. Is monstrous. And imho those responsible for this in the PO and Fujitsu should be given prison time.

Totally agree, and tho we don’t know, the stress of what happened may well have hastened his death.I can’t believe that after all these years the appropriate compensation hasn’t been paid out to victims or their families.

Does anyone know what happens to the compensation money if the postmasters have died before it is awarded? Surely it can't die with them?

Soon as this government got in, didn’t they cave in to giving out large pay awards to train drivers?
I think first thing they should have done was sort out the post office scandal.

I agree absolutely. I only ask because of the suggestion that it may all be dragging out in the hope that some of the people may die. That would make no difference if the compensation went to their families (as it should).

I would hope the money will be awarded to the families who also suffered the pain and indignity of being ostracised by the communities they lived in and watched loved ones living with many years of stress and humiliation.
It is the very least they deserve

I would have put that before paying any wage increases to train drivers for sure.

Not just the Tory and Labour governments. During the 2010-2015 coalition government the Post Office scandal continued, with more sub-postmaster being wrongly accused, convicted and imprisoned. Postal affairs minister Ed Davey faced criticism for not meeting Alan Bates stating that it would not serve any purpose. Yes the same Ed Davey who is currently making a complete ass of himself, without seemingly, a care in the world. He should hang his head in shame for not at least listening to A.B at the time, and now should take some responsibility for, this appalling miscarriage of justice, but I guess that is wishful thinking! I think it's the worst case I've ever heard of in the UK.

This. It's always the institutions that cover up and protect themselves, whilst innocent people who have no power, pay the price.

It's a dreadful situation, and my heart goes out to those who lost their reputations, careers and financial security.

It is awful when people don't believe you, even on a very low level, and unimaginable to be jailed for something you haven't done. Compensation for wrongful imprisonment is woeful at the best of times - to take off money for board and lodgings is unconscionable IMO - but for TPTB to prevaricate like this so that victims die before getting anything, is unforgivable. I really hope his family gets an extra payment for the way he was treated (I assume that his compensation will go to his heirs?).

I know this story is well known but would like to mark this death and send my heartfelt sympathies to Parmod’s loved ones and friends. ...... hear hear.

This makes me so angry. Is this what they are hoping for, that all those who were victims of this horrendous scandal will die and those responsible will get away with it? Just how long will they drag their heels over this?

Those culpable should be on trial and, if found guilty (of culpable manslaughter in some cases) should receive a prison sentence.

Both the Tories and Labour should hang their heads in shame for the way these poor people have been treated. They were innocent and awarded compensation, so just pay them, for goodness sake. Deafening silence from Starmer & Co on this matter. I would love to hear his excuses for this protracted debacle and also why has nobody appeared in court yet?
