I know people hate threads that reuire reading a long link to respond but this retired French 3 star general is brilliant.

He gives 5 clear reasons why Trump's war has nothing to do with NATO and why it is not safe to trust Trump.

He starts by pointing out that NATO is an alliance. To go to war as an alliance, the war has to be planned and led by NATO with the agreement of its members. If one NATO member decides unilaterally to start a war against anther country, it cannot demand the support (with no battle plan involvement) of other NATO partners.

He goes on to say that Trump is not someone any country can trust. He will ditch the war and any allies whenever it doesn't suit him to continue the fighting, as other countries, like Afghanisran, Ukraine have discovered.

He finally compares getting involved in this war as like buyng a ticket to the dinner dance on the Titanic after it has hit the iceberg

Exactly so.

I think that many countries including USA allies, including those in the. ME, have come to that conclusion.

The only country benefiting from the entire fracas is Putin’s Russia.

Trump isn't even clear what he is fighting about. He changes the reasons and objectives of the war almost daily.

Someone said that Trumps demand for help over Hormuz has been met with a world wide shrug.

Is anyone rushing to his aid?

Interesting discussion I was listening to as how on Earth Trump is going to declare it a win?

He will never ever loose - so what will a win look like?

The Iranians have Hormuz totally wrapped up. They don’t even have to fire on a ship, just the threat is sufficient to stop boats pootling through.

Even if Trumps get the navy to escort some boats through, they can’t do it for the foreseeable future. The cost benefit would be ridiculous.

Or say they decide to clear Iran of all nuclear material. This will take boots on the ground, tanks and face to face contact. I can’t see the USA remotely tolerating that.

Change of regime? Not going to happen.

Trump is in a complete bind of his own making. He can stew in it as far as I’m concerned.

Countries don’t appear to be rushing to join the Trump / Netanyahu war - despite Trump claiming that some were ‘enthusiastically’ rushing to help.

Which countries are those🤔
Where are they🤔

The consensus across much of the world seems to be … Trump / Netanyahu, you started this war without discussion or collaboration with your allies - it’s up to you!

They say that Trump thinks transactionally. That is what the world did. It asked themselves what there was in it for them, apart from getting the Straits of Hormuz open - and answer came there none - just more military demands on the whim of Trump. they declined

The General hit the nail on the head- agree with everything that has been said.

I always enjoy Professor Michael Clarke's analysis on Sky news. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of all the different weapons. I modules on military studies at uni (the only woman on the course.)

Excellent, clearly written article.
Thank goodness the rest of the world's leaders seem to be united in their common sense.
Thank you M0nica
