I suspect that you only hear about CT involvement in the news because their presence is "newsworthy." You don't hear about the hundreds of other violent vehicle incidents where local police work alone because they are smaller scale and don't make national headlines.

No, I did not because trends research on your link has very mixed reviews, some saying it is bordering on a scam site and is based in Washington DC.
I prefer to read reports relating closer to home.

Just mentioning that the incite to use cars as weapons is in full view on terrorism sites and I would hazard a guess that political hatred, religion and terrorism is at the core of the majority of attacks. Hence the Counter Terrorism getting involved. They would hardly be doing their job if they didn't. Have you any statistics on cars being used in domestic violence incidents? I am unable to find any.

The driver of the black Suzuki was arrested seven minutes after the incident, with police saying on Sunday that he was “safely stopped” on Station Approach, near the Derwent Bridge and Derby Railway Station.

The 36-year-old suspect is understood to have left the incident on Friar Gate and driven around Derby’s ring road in the direction of Pride Park football stadium in the east of the city.

Derbyshire Constabulary announced the incident in a statement at 11pm on Saturday, making clear that “a man in his 30s was arrested and is in police custody” and saying police did not believe there was any ongoing risk to the public.

I suppose the reason so many people think (incorrectly) that these terrible events are terrorism is because Counter-Terrorism Police take the lead on any incident where a car hits a crowd. This is a procedural precaution only.

Invariably and with the exception of the Liverpool football parade incident, it is usually to do with foreign nationals with an axe to grind over political events and is often linked with terrorism. According to the UK's Counter Terrorism, online media actively incites followers to use a car as a weapon. It is a method of attack which is available to many people and as we have seen far too many times both here and abroad it can cause absolute and indiscriminate carnage.
If the drivers of these weaponised cars hate Britain so much then just drive your car to the nearest port or airport and clear off somewhere else.

All the police say is that the perpetrator is from India. The motive isn’t established as yet.

I didn’t realise how busy that area is. Don’t really go there since Bennett’s closed down. A few weeks ago someone was arrested wielding a knife down Sadler Gate, an area where they often have family friendly evening events. Mind you years ago when my kids used to go to Nottingham a lot knife crime was terrible even then. However weaponising of cars has taken this sort of thing to a whole new level.

My son lives on that street. It was very frightening seeing the news about it. It is a very trendy area where lots of people go for a night out.

I was quite shaken by this from a personal point of view.

I lived in Derby until i was 20 and Friargate (where it happened) was where all the trendy pubs were.

Coincidentally, DD1 now lives on that side of town and the area had developed into an area of bars and restaurants - lots of night life. I have checked and both DGC are home safe and sound but could so easily have been in that area on a night out.

I was working up there also Cossy very close to the Tower of London when that was bombed 🤬🤬🤬

I think the difference from then and now is the authorities would get coded warnings of bombs to lessen the injuries but still cause disruption.

Don’t think any of the current terrorist organisations, lone wolf or those with mental health issues are likely to ring up and let the police know their intentions.

No, I don’t believe this will further damage hospitality. I do remember being working in London during the IRA bombings, I worked in the square mile and we were still out drinking at all hours. It was scary times tbh, I remember a couple of funny little shelters popped up housing a single armed police officer.
