Kanye West has been booked to perform at a concert in London despite his previous antisemitic remarks and celebration of Nazism.

No it is a serious question. I have a friend with schizophrenia he talks absolute nonsense when he is ill. Should allowances be made for that, because he wouldn't be able to get through life if we don't.

Kanye said he had been misdiagnosed as bipolar Galaxy and had autism, later changed to ‘some aspects of autism’. I can’t find any glimpse of medical verification, seems to be what suits on the occasion.

What I’d have rather liked to see, would have been him coming and performing, but a mass boycott of the concert - maybe 1-2% of seats filled.
I doubt that would ever have happened, though.

Babsbada Wed 08-Apr-26 13:50:29

Of course he should be banned and now has been.

Kanye West has been banned

Shanksy Wed 08-Apr-26 14:21:19

Definately.

Labradora Wed 08-Apr-26 14:25:12

It's a legal matter at the Home Secretary's discretion and now he has been banned.
I thought Wes Streeting's comments were on the money (tell us what you really think, Wes !!). I hope I don't misrepresent Wes but I understood him to think that the West apologies were insincere and self-serving. He has " apologised" before and recanted apparently.
West's express anti-semitism is disgusting and unacceptable.
More than anything he is a massive idiot. Adolf Hitler was not known for his fondness for any minorities including people with mental health problems. Who do you think would have been next on his list , Kanye?
I have an issue with " cancelling" generally I must say and I am conflicted. Wishing no offence whatsoever to our Jewish citizens, we are banning somebody because of what he thinks however mad and disgusting that may be. It is a point of view to state that KW should have been allowed to perform and it was up to British Citizens NOT to buy tickets to listen to this massive **.

Kanye West has been waging hatred against Jews for the past 3 years. If he had such an issue, why was he not taking medication and why the fixation on Jews? I find this behaviour and stance particularly disturbing coming from a black man whose people have suffered over the years. Has he not read how Hitler treated Jessie Owens, the black athlete? Does he not know that Hitler hated blacks, Gypsies, Gays and other minorities. If Hitler had won the war, blacks would probably have been earmarked for extermination too or put back into slavery?

Yes, I think that allowances should be made about legal responsibilities, but individuals can't be expected to know what's going on, and can't really be blamed if they react to what he says to them. Anyway, what should happen and the legal situation is not the same thing, and a private citizen is not the same as someone filling a stadium with goodness knows how many followers.

Another thought…
Should somebody suffering from an illness that causes them to make vile comments and stir up hatred against certain groups be awarded celebrity status with a huge influence on our youth.

Absolutely not.

Galaxy Wed 08-Apr-26 14:44:07

No obviously I think individuals are free to respond to Kanye west however they like, within the law. I am not sure that I think he should have been banned. I am deeply concerned about antisemitism in this country, I will be honest and say that I don't think Kanye West is at all at the forefront of that, we'll I know he isnt.

Galaxy Wed 08-Apr-26 14:44:50

Well not we'll.

Juniper1 Wed 08-Apr-26 14:47:46

Now out of date. He’s been banned
And whole thing cancelled

Anniebach Wed 08-Apr-26 14:55:30

He was the forefront of antisemitism in the UK, who claimed this Galexy

I think it would be hypocritical to do so since the likes of Nigel Farage and his little band of racists are allowed to get away with it. We need to put our own house in order first.

I don't know much about Kanye West or whether or not his condition is real but Farage has no excuse and has never even tried to apologise or make amends.

If you don't want to support West. Easy, don't buy a ticket, don't purchase his music and vote with your pocket.

Has Farage been selling t shirts with swastikas on them and posting that he is a Nazi and how much he loves Hitler on social media?

I thought not. Much as I dislike Farage and his band of no-hopers, that comparison is out of proportion.

After the attacks on Jewish people and ambulances here, the Government is right to ban him. Australia did the same even before the Bondi massacre. It was after he released a song called Heil Hitler.

If anyone wants to see him, they can travel to the States. They are welcome to him.

If people believe in freedom of speech and democracy then no, he should not be banned. It’s better to know what people are truly like rather than hide it.

Hear, hear.

Considering that it's been reported that many in the Jewish community are walking around in fear, afraid to wear the apparel that denotes their faith - I think this ban was necessary, in spite of West's apology. He's a bit of a loose canon in the entertainment bubble in which he exists and his sound judgement can't be relied upon.

The fewer hate-mongers around the better.

spabbygirl Wed 08-Apr-26 15:53:37

its good that he was banned, having a mental health problem does not allow you to say anything you like, if he appreciated his words were unacceptable he'd either seek treatment if he were in the middle of an episode or shut the f* up and keep out of the limelight. We really don't want anyone thinking those views are acceptable and even trendy.
As Dickens says above, the fewer hate mongers around the better

Good …

Galaxy Wed 08-Apr-26 17:09:00

Well yes if it was followers of Kanye west who were attacking Jewish people that might make sense, but that's not what is happening.

He should but he won't - he hasn't got the bottle for it. Anyway, it probably hasn't gone across his desk so will claim ignorance.

Interesting framing.
