Now I am really worried about the King and Queen’s visit tomorrow.

No one should be surprised that when Trump is mentioned his opponents behave in a way that leaves others backing away quickly.

Trump on truthsocial.com just minutes after being escorted out: "Law Enforcement has requested that we leave the premises, consistent with protocol, which we will do, immediately. I will be giving a press conference in 30 minutes from the White House Press Briefing Room. The First Lady, plus the Vice President, and all Cabinet members, are in perfect condition. We will be speaking to you in a half an hour. I have spoken with all the representatives in charge of the event, and we will be rescheduling within 30 days. President DONALD J. TRUMP".

Also, never one to miss an opportunity- at said briefing in the press room not long after the event, Trump described the Washington Hilton as “not a particularly secure building” and argued for the merits of the construction of a ballroom at the White House. “This is why we have to have all of the attributes of what we’re planning at the White House. It’s actually a larger room, and it’s much more secure.”

Anybody who thinks this is a stunt needs to give their head a wobble!

It clearly isn’t. There is footage of the attacker pinned down on the ground and I saw people talking about how they were caught up in it.

Wobble away. Why did the security people get Vance first?

LemonJam Sun 26-Apr-26 12:32:00

I'm not sure whether this was genuine or performative.

What is clear is that a random hotel guest, without an invitation to the event, armed with knives and guns, was able to get through venue security, as demonstrated by CCTV footage, get himself into a position close enough to fire shots and he did sho0t one Secret Service officer, at very close range.

The shooters name was released quickly, named by Trump on Truth Social, before the police had even identified the alleged gun man. At the very least that raises security and Whitehouse communications concerns.

Well, I’ve wobbled my head, and still not entirely sure it’s completely pukka, ie not a set- up.

Some are saying it was a fake attempt to distract from trump’s poor polling figures, the Epstein files and the Iran war. Whatever, they missed again.

I’m afraid this was my first thought, but I think that’s because I’m so very cynical about what’s happening in the US these days.

The world has learned the hard way, that very little that Trump has got involved in is entirely honest, competent or legal.

No one should be surprised that anything and everything to do with Trump is now questioned, disbelieved and unsupported.

Maremia Sun 26-Apr-26 12:17:34

Something has happened. Not sure whether it was genuine or 'performance'.

Trump has criticised Starmer for not supporting his illegal war, ridiculed our armed forces, of which the King is the head, made damaging threats to the NATO alliance, threatens to weaken our sovereignty of the Falkland Islands and will now, no doubt, capitalise on surviving another assassination attempt.

Good Luck your Majesty.

Accusations of a a hoax already, just as there were when Boris Johnson was fighting for his life in a London hospital, seriously ill with Covid in 2020.

I really don't see what BJ has to do with any of this. He was clearly very ill.

Oh, I never thought of that aspect 😲

They need to Make America Safe Again

It must have been a stunt. With 4 previous presidents assassinated, the attempted assassination of Reagan and the already 'attempted assassination' of Trump, I can't believe that the security could be that useless.

Security 'useless on purpose'?

I am at the point that I question everything coming out of the USA at the moment.

Any assassination attempt on an elected POTUS is a dreadful act.

Indeed, quite dreadful.......that Trump is now revelling in self-righteous near martydom.

It's to be hoped that the alledged shooter will not be subject to the same fate as Lee Harvey Oswald, accused of being President Kennedy's assassin, who was shot dead by nightclub owner Jack Ruby whilst being escorted by police.

And then Ruby conveniently died, supposedly of cancer, shortly after.

Fancy that. Not that I would accuse the honourable POTUS of concocting this clumsily staged production.......

Not sure if this will open. It’s a reel from Instagram. I can’t work out whether it’s AI or not. Any suggestions?

I wouldn’t wish assassination attempts on anyone including Trump.

BlessedArt Sun 26-Apr-26 11:18:47

Isn’t funny how these attempts always seem to happen when he needs public distraction or the support of near martyrdom to help him. These people have no boundaries. I question all occurrences involving him.

imaround Sun 26-Apr-26 11:17:46

FWIW, I could go either way on this. It is probably another real attempt with very lax security. But, if we have any question about the validity if this, Trump only has himself to blame because of his lies and law breaking.

Magenta8 Sun 26-Apr-26 10:35:40

Trump exists in a miasma of lies and diversionary tactics so it is anybody's guess whether this is real or yet another stunt.

Nandalot Sun 26-Apr-26 10:35:20

Yes, seems like security was very lax. An attendee wrote the following on BBC site.
“All the roads had been closed around the Hilton for hours, blocked off by law enforcement. But the security at the venue itself wasn't particularly heavy.
The man on the door outside only took a cursory look at my ticket from what must have been six feet away.
We took the lift down to the ballroom, and an agent wanded me but wasn't particularly interested in the bleeps set off by the contents of my inside jacket pocket. They did not ask me to turn out my belongings.
In short, the security felt like a regular White House Correspondents Dinner - one without the sitting president in attendance”.

Smileless2012 Sun 26-Apr-26 10:33:41

And how does anyone manage to 'conceal' a shotgun?

Nandalot Sun 26-Apr-26 10:25:28

It could be either! Certainly, the video showing the gunman run past the security check seemed less than impresssive. So much room for someone to rush past.

Smileless2012 Sun 26-Apr-26 10:24:58
