Well done King Charles you’ve done us proud.

Good Morning Wednesday 19th August2026
The land is dry, and the people are ...stupid?

I watched it all, there is a summary on the page above.
He did quite a bit of challenging, more than expected.
Most significant:
Praised an Independent Judiciary. And the whole house applauded on their feet, not just the democrats. Mentioned the need for checks and balances on power
Raised climate change pretty strongly
Nato needed co-operation inc Europe not nations standing alone - he reminded the US on cooperation after 9/11.
Total need to support Ukraine (hint, hint)
Not to be inward looking.
This was one very very clever and well researched and written speech. Clear, articulate, and clever - It went down very well and he is clearly respected, it will be interesting to see what the US press make of it.
Well done King Charles you’ve done us proud.
Whoever wrote or prepared the speech the king delivered it gracefully and personally and in a very dignified manner. I for one was very proud of him.
I was overwhelmingly proud of KC and his speech ! It was very effective with great hints of what can be achieved in the future ! I also have a lot of respect for The Pope despite not being at all religious ! Increasing to hear articulate, intelligent and compassionate speeches by both ! The standing ovation for the King was so deserved !
What I got from the speech was that Trump's massively over inflated ego would not allow him to realise that some of our King's comments were actually chastising him. Trump just thinks the King is agreeing with him.
I wonder if POTUS heard 'Tale of Two Cities' reference.
That of course lasted no longer than Suez and myriad other situations which strained the relationship, although there were notable instances like Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo where we trooped in to aid the USA.
Kosovo was a NATO mission.
The UK went into Afghanistan as a NATO ally of the US. NATO allies were involved after Article 5 was invoked after 9/11.
The Iraq war caused divisions within NATO (and here at home).
Trump has now trashed NATO.

I do hope that the U.K. doesn’t twiddle around, still thinking that we can save this special relationship.
We can’t.
Not even I suspect if the Democrats get in next time.
We must plough our own furrow and look to our best interests, both in defence, trade and geo-political relationships.
Canada is doing just that, and looking towards Europe. We would be sensible to follow this example. There is no special relationship. There never has been.
I think for a brief period, post war, it was intended that the USA would be the leader of the free liberal world, and leader of like minded countries with shared values. The U.K. had under the leadership of Churchill thought that we stood as close partners with the USA under the umbrella of a special relationship, where the USA called the shots and we tabbed along.
That of course lasted no longer than Suez and myriad other situations which strained the relationship, although there were notable instances like Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo where we trooped in to aid the USA.
But anyone with any sense knows that this relationship with another country whose culture and interest are so different to ours is never going to last.
Now it is completely broken.

So what you’re saying MartavTaurus is that the King wrote his own speech, and therefore proves by his words that he’d be a Labour voter if he was an ordinary citizen. Yay to that.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'd think he'd be leader of the Green Party if he could choose!
I was against the King going to the USA, but I have to say that he has, very politely, thrown some serious shade at Trump and his administration. Respect!!
Oh and doesn't the Queen look great. Gorgeous outfits and jewels!!

I’m not a monarchist remotely but well done Charles and his speechwriters. I wonder if Trump understood the message though. Trump subsequently has posted a photo of them together with the caption “two kings” ( yuk).
Oh, for goodness' sake.
He is delusional.
Buckingham Palace also had to issue a clarification of what Trump claimed King Charles said about stopping Iran having nuclear weapons.
We know he will not have said exactly that.
I am really excited that he did this - it was excellent. It's about time somebody said those things. I can only hope it sticks to some of the Republican congressional reps. I'm in the US.

*Trump subsequently has posted a photo of them together with the caption “two kings” ( yuk).* ..... seriously?!
😂😂😂 Trump would love to be a king! He does have Royalty envy.
I spotted that Charles was the one wearing the clothes, I expect most other people did too.
Two kings? What a nerve.

As a one time republican I have come to agree with the value of a monarchy too.

If anyone questions the need for our monarchy this is the reason we still need them, Their words and presence often carry more weight than we appreciate .
Has anyone seen the footage of Trump cutting in front of Camilla when she was shaking hands with people?

Yes!! Very well put!
Well done and thank you to our King, for delivering a great speech, as we knew he would. You did our country proud!

All the monarchy naysayers, when you see Charles in action at events such as this, you realise how important it is to retain them.
Do we want to end up with a President like the USA?
🤷♀️
That would be the case if Nigel Farage ever made it to Number 10.
Lord save us!
I agree Whitewave. The king may have smoothed the waters for now but I think we should move away from the US and towards Europe now. The US can't be trusted.
