Farage fails to report 5 million gift!

Farage/Reform got £12.000.000 before the 2024 election.

BUT

Breaking news over the last 10 hours,

Farage was given £5.000.000 by the Thai-based billionaire Christopher Harborne shortly before announcing he would stand in the 2024 general election, "for security"

Farage did not declare this, breaking parliamentary rules.

He should be held accountable by parliament and appear before a standards committee. Reform UK claim he did not break parliamentary rules. Oh really?

No one, No politician should be allowed to accept gifts without declaring them,

But £5.000.000!

Report from Reuters.

Indeed, and it was a gift from a 'repeated Reform UK political donor'. The criteria/excuse of being a 'friend' in addition to his donor role. is not really a legitimate justification to support his reasoning not to declare the £5 million. Common sense tells Farage the sheer size of the "gift" and the fact it came from a repeated political donor - would raise eyebrows.

This appears to be Farage's defence- I await the investigation outcome with interest.

His “supporters” won’t care, he will spin things to become a “victim” and frankly many of his “followers” think he’s the messiah, their “saviour”.

I did link to this very early in the thread but it’s worth repeating.

There is an induction process for new MPs. In the pack that was sent to all new MPs by Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, Daniel Greenberg on 5 July 2024, it clearly says:

www.parliament.uk/globalassets/documents/pcfs/advice-notes/parliamentary-commissioner-for-standards---members-induction-pack-2024.pdf

Registration is in the Register of Members’ Financial Interests. The main purpose of the Register is to provide information about any financial interest which a Member has, or any benefit which he or she receives, which others might reasonably consider to influence his or her actions or words as a Member of Parliament.

… others might reasonably consider to influence his or her actions or words as a Member of Parliament.

Farage had taken £5 million from a billionaire immersed in crypto dealing. The same man had already donated £10 million to the Brexit Party and had since donated £12 million to Reform.

In the Epstein Papers there is an email from Bannon saying that he is advising Farage on the elections for the European Parliament to “shut down any crypto legislation is the EU and anything else we want”.

And now we are suppose to believe that the cash from Harborne doesn’t have strings attached wanting the same thing that Bannon and Epstein wanted?

Harborne, reported by Lewis Goodall, has said that if the UK goverment stop crypto donations he will "find a way around it and give even more".

Just to add, he was required to declare any donations/gifts received in the 12 months prior to becoming an MP.

This money was a gift from a friend for his security. It was not cash, but money to pay a security company. He was not a member of parliament at the time he , was an MEP.

There is nobody on here questioning members of the Labour Party who have security

He wasn’t an MEP at the time. all MPs are entitled to state funded security.

I don't think he actually wants the responsibility of PM power. He enjoys influence however because of the attention he gains as a result, which feeds his ego, alongside his avarice for financial gain.

As somebody said earlier, things fall apart slowly, then all at once. At the back of my mind is wondering whether he knew this would happen, and wants it to, because I don’t think he has any intention of being PM, he has far too much to lose.

I think he enjoys the power he has over people but doesn’t particularly want to do anything that involves having to work hard.

The power and the money.

Well I agree with the content of the video.

So do I agree, which amazes me because I usually dislike Badenoch intensely. I think she's actually found a target for her attacks who deserves it.

I think she must have a new team around her because I've noticed she seems to have stopped the silly attacks to try and outdo Reform and is actually beginning to concentrate on real issues. (I still couldn't bring myself to vote for her party, but some people might.)

The Observer article is enlightening, since it gives actual facts as regards Farage's claims as in police investigations.

I welcome the day when some crypto rich person gives money to any minority group or individual who have had had actual attacks on their wellbeing. Perhaps the rape of the poor Sikh women?

Farage has no real ground for his claims. He should be held to account. This thread has a paucity of GN Reform supporters for some bizarre reason.....

Kemi Badenoch is going for the jugular.

If subject to speculation- and attempts to spin the truth and appear a victim may not go in his favour.

twaddle Sun 03-May-26 11:57:48

He'll spin to make it appear that he's being victimised.

MaizieD Sun 03-May-26 11:54:31

Will Farage's refusal evasion of questioning do him any harm with his admirers? I seem to recall Johnson doing much the same thig on occasion; it didn't seem to harm him.

Graphite Sun 03-May-26 11:49:06

I do wonder if this article in today's Observer questioning whether there was ever an arson attack on Farage's home (about a year after the £5 million bung) has anything to do with his non appearance.

Farage was due to appear on the Laura Kuenssberg programme this morning. LK announced at the start of the programme he had “changed his mind” and wouldn’t appear on today’s programme as planned.

Quite simply, too flaky and unreliable to take seriously and could not possibly perform or function as a PM.

A pity she didn't subject him to the Have I got News for You technique used when Roy Hattersley was a last minute drop out so they substituted him with a tub of lard.

Couldn't Laura K have arranged his empty chair with a packet of fags and a pint of beer?

🍺 🚬 🪑 😂

Whitewavemark2 Sun 03-May-26 10:33:01

Perhaps he was shown the questions K was intending to ask😄😄

AGAA4 Sun 03-May-26 10:31:35

The absence of Farage on the Laura K show was well noted. All parties were represented apart from Reform.
Speaks volumes!
Who would vote for this unreliable, wimpy man. Is he so arrogant that he thinks he doesn't need to bother.

From reading the Guardian article twaddle linked to it seems that many LAs across the board, controlled by all the political parties are using the wonderful pot hole mending JCB machine yet only one party gets a very generous donation from the company. Why should that be? Can it be something to do with the advertising campaign that Reform appears to be running on their behalf?

There seems to be something deeply undemocratic about this. An overt use of cash for favours?
