Farage/Reform got £12.000.000 before the 2024 election.

BUT

Breaking news over the last 10 hours,

Farage was given £5.000.000 by the Thai-based billionaire Christopher Harborne shortly before announcing he would stand in the 2024 general election, "for security"

Farage did not declare this, breaking parliamentary rules.

He should be held accountable by parliament and appear before a standards committee. Reform UK claim he did not break parliamentary rules. Oh really?

No one, No politician should be allowed to accept gifts without declaring them,

But £5.000.000!

Report from Reuters.

Sounds like someone from the US we all know Cossy.

I expect nothing better from this vile grifter. He is without a moral bone in his body. Denigrates other politicians for minor interactions, compared to this, but refuses to properly address such things as who paid on cash for the Clacton constituency house and what is expected for this £5 million 'gift'. There's no such thing as a free lunch! The media pander to him, as does Question Time. There is no hope for open speech in the UK and expecting our politicians to be decent, honest and moral.

“His” house in Clacton is solely owned and in the name of his gf, whether this is some ruse to cheat some other system who knows, but he stated just the other day he spends approx 50% of his time there.

I don’t believe this for one minute.

Can't say I'm shocked or even surprised by this. Shows how little regard I have for Farage.

I too am not at all surprised, he and his cronies like to think rules don’t apply to them at all.

Reform supporters state it was given for security purposes. I'm not a Reform supporter but I wonder why anybody needs £5m worth of security - I'm sure the king does not even get that much security

You jest?

Pity it isn't going to happen before the upcoming elections.

Casdon Fri 01-May-26 14:02:38

The Electoral Commission will rule by 12th May on whether there is going to be a formal investigation, in response to the submission by the Tories on Wednesday.

Sadly Grandmotherto8 there is such a thing as a free lunch amongst many other freebies and I think all politicians make the most of it.

His constituents may welcome a by-election but I will be surprised if that happens.

If 10% of his constituents (and it is up to them) sign a recall petition within 6 weeks of a 10 week suspension then a bye election will be triggered.

I'm sure that there will be other party activists in the constituency who would be more than willing to organise it to get the 7,825 signatures needed. After all, 24,625 people voted for other parties in 2024. A third of them would do...

It depends how strong his support is in Clacton, I wouldn’t have thought, even if a by-election was triggered that the result would be much different.

I wonder if Farage will canvass in Clacton for local elections- probably/possibly not? If so, I would love to be a fly on the wall where the residents ask him questions about this mess he's got himself into....

He said that it was the egg thrown at him incident that provoked his deep fears 🤣. and one small firebomb. When he wasn't there.

I thought it was deadly milk shake that he needed defending from...

Anyway, plenty of politicians have had eggs thrown at them over the years. I don't recall them needing £5million gifts to enhance their security.

I give Chatgtp's response:

Egg-throwing has a long (and very British) history as a form of political protest. Quite a few UK politicians—across parties and decades—have been targeted. Here are some of the more notable examples.

---

## Well-known UK politicians who’ve been egged

### Prime ministers & major party leaders

* Harold Wilson – hit in the face by an egg during the 1970 election campaign.
* John Major – egged while campaigning in 1992.
* David Cameron – egg thrown during campaigning in 2010.
* Tony Blair – had eggs thrown at him during a book tour event.
---

### Labour politicians

* John Prescott – famously egged in 2001 and responded by punching the attacker (“the Prescott punch”).
* Ed Miliband – egged multiple times (2012–2013), including a market walkabout in London.
* Jeremy Corbyn – had an egg thrown at him during a visit in 2019.
* George Galloway – egged after a by-election win in 2012.
---

### Conservative & other politicians

* Ruth Kelly – hit by an egg outside court in 2006
* Sayeeda Warsi – targeted with eggs in 2009.
* Nick Griffin – egged during protests in Westminster.
---

### UKIP / Brexit figures

* Nigel Farage – egged multiple times (e.g. 2014; also near-miss in 2017).

---

### Others and recent cases

* Michael Heseltine – pelted with eggs and other food during protests.
* King Charles III – eggs thrown during a public visit (not hit).

hmm

Casdon- 13.30.

Here is the timeline according to the Guardian, as I understand:

1) Farage said on X he would not stand for election in May 2024 on X shorty after Sunak announced the election would take place on 4 July 2024. The BBC and other broadcasters reported Farage's statement not to stand on 23 May 2024.
2) Behind the scenes Farage tried to persuade Rishi Sunak to agree an electoral pact with Reform as he previously negotiated, successfully with Boris Johnson in 2019. Sunak refused.
3) The Guardian claims Farage was given the £5 million by Harborne "shortly before announcing he would stand as a prospective MP"
4) The Guardian claims Farage's U turn decision to stand was made "within weeks of receiving the personal gift" from Harborne.
5) On 3rd June 2024 Farage publicly stated he would stand for election
6) GE took place on 4 July 2024.
7) Farage came to post as MP for Clacton on 4 July 2024 and form this date became eligible for state funded personal security as set out above
8) On coming to post as an MP Farage was obliged to report all gifts, donations etc for previous 12 months. He made a decision NOT to declare his recent £5 million gift/donation from Harborne, (fully aware Harborne made a £1 million gift to Boris in 2022 subject to scrutiny and censure at the time)

Wyllow3 Thu 30-Apr-26 14:18:41

He said that it was the egg thrown at him incident that provoked his deep fears 🤣. and one small firebomb. When he wasn't there.

This happens a lot
He receives as much security as any other MP in his situation.

Women MP's get Rape threats, for goodness sake, over long periods of time. My female MP has had to move her office.

Pathetic, frankly. whinging to try and get out of being held to account.

Indeed Vegansrock- but the fact remains Farage already has state funded security as set out - put in place weeks after he received the £5million.

Certainly enough to enable him to carry out constituency surgeries safely one would think.

BlessedArt Thu 30-Apr-26 13:33:47

I’m just here to read the mental gymnastics it takes to excuse this deceitful grifter’s behaviour. Spin doctors are indeed at work grin

Casdon Thu 30-Apr-26 13:30:52

The payment was made in 2024 according to the media, so at the longest it would have been 7 months before the election. It will be possible to find the exact date I woukd think.

How much does private security cost? Even if you paid bodyguards 100k pa that’s an awful lot of security.

LemonJam Thu 30-Apr-26 12:56:16

Parliament prorogued yesterday and will meet again on 13th May for the State Opening of Parliament and Charles will announce the next programme of legislation via his King's Speech.

LemonJam Thu 30-Apr-26 12:51:09

There is no If about it- the £5 million sum was received weeks before Farage became an MP so definitely within in the 12 month timeframe rules.

After investigation, if found to have breached the code of Conduct, Farage will be extremely lucky if he gets away with just a fine. As MaizieD points out, it could result in a suspension and possibly a bye election.

Oreo Thu 30-Apr-26 12:45:43

I don’t suppose he will be too bothered by a ten day suspension in any case, and doesn’t parliament become prorogued round about now with the elections coming up.
