I do not support the death penalty. For the most dreadful crimes such as the murder of children, round the clock solitary confinement would be fitting. I believe that the USA is the only civilised country in the world to have the death penalty.

It should be obvious to anyone with half a brain cell that trump is now certifiable. He knows the midterms in November will go badly for the Republicans and he can’t have that.

Did anyone see the interview he gave yesterday which he walked out of? After being incredibly rude to the female interviewer.

It is going to take many years for the USA to recover from this dreadful man and his acolytes.

You are correct, Macaydia. The USA incarcerates more of its' citizens pro rata, for longer, and with dismal recidivism results.
Perhaps they could learn from Norway?

Think of all the people who have been wrongly imprisoned.
If the death penalty had been used, they would have had no recompense.
Think of some of the reasons why 'criminals' are executed in other countries.
Women, for adultery, men for homosexuality.

FWIW, it cost more to put someone to death in this country than to keep them imprisoned for life. 2.5 x 5 times more, in the millions of dollars per person.

No, I could not support the death penalty tho at times I have felt like it. It's not just the risks of mistakes, nor even whether its a deterrent.

Its being a society that is potentially - a government like Trump can come in and can change the laws bad enough already once we accept the principle: meeting violence back with violence, is it good for us all?

My father in law had to preside over hanging. That’s all I’m prepared to say other than I’m totally opposed to the death penalty .

I am totally against the death penalty, it is barbaric and totally wrong regardless of the crime. Trump is deranged but I also suspect there is another agenda behind this.

but knowing if anyone had in anyway hurt (or heaven forbid) murdered a child of mine, I would happily have killed them myself.

I am opposed to the death penalty.
As others here, I think that it is quite a different ask from those joining the forces with the aim of defending one's country, to becoming an executioner of a countryman/ woman.

Because with assisted dying, the one whose chosen to do so must administer the drug themselves.

My understanding is that 27 USA states have the death penalty and that the governor of those states has the final say as to whether the sentence will be carried out or commuted to a life sentence, so I don't see how this could be enforceable.

The last execution by firing squad was carried out in South Colorado on November 14th 2025 at the request of the one being executed.

Another new low for Trump. The death penalty should have ended in all civilised countries now. Does he keep thinking up more ways to damage the reputation of the US.

Executing his own citizens is as bad as the regime in Iran.

I agree that the perpetrators of some sexual and violent crimes should be incarcerated for life.

The death penalty, though, is always wrong and barbaric. We don’t live in the Middle Ages.

I don't agree with the death penalty, I think some of the methods of execution are positively inhumane, if there ever could be an acceptable way of killing. I do think people who murder, depending on the circumstances, cold blooded killing such as the man who murdered Henry Nowak should lose their liberty for a very long time, it's not good enough that they should be free to live a free life when they're still relatively young having cut short someone else's life.

I don't think the military should be drafted in to be part of an execution squad.

Whenever there is talk of executions in America I always think of an excellent film I saw many years ago; The Executioners Song’ starring Tommy Lee Jones, along with, of course, The Green Mile. Dare I ask what colour the condemned people are ( although I think I can guess…). Maybe he wants to cause riots so he can instigate a state of emergency and cancel the mid term elections . With Trump you sometimes have to think outside of the box…

Never mind the effect on the criminal, not being facetious, but what about the effect on the military personnel? To suddenly have to be in an execution squad.
