Speculation: Who Will Be In Burnham's Cabinet?

If the rumours about David Milliband being made a Lord and then foreign Secretary are true won’t it be a bit like having Liam and Noel Gallagher in government ( although I suppose it might work because David wouldn’t be allowed in the house so they could be kept apart…)

I’d like to see Al Carns put himself forward for Labour Party leader.
He seems like a straight talking, politically savvy man. Even if he didn’t win it would create a contest where we could all then decide whether we like his policy ideas and whether there is more to Andy Burnham than the conniving showman he seems to be.
If Burnham wins I hope he includes the likes of Carns in his cabinet and doesn’t just fill it with cronies and yes men.

We have to accept in politics that there will be a core group who have led and planned this big change, that doesn't necessary make them yes women/men, my MP is one and is def no 'yes" woman.

Guess who was Pensions Minister and then Works and Pensions Secretary during the worst of the maladministration?

Does the name James Purnell ring any bells? Yes? Seemingly Burnham’s pick as Chief of Staff.

Some awkward questions from the WASPI campaign might be brewing.

Purnell is/was against the winter fuel payment and pensioners bus passes to I believe.

Purnell has been lobbying for business interests since he left politics. Not perhaps the best fit for a left leaning Labour PM?

Haigh was mugged on a night out in 2013- 13 years ago. She gave the police a list of things taken including a work phone issued by her employer.

Some time later she discovered the mobile had not been taken but had meanwhile been issued with a new phone by her employer and did not contact the police when she discovered it to tell them. Her actions in switching on the old phone however triggered police attention and Haigh was brought in for questioning. Her lawyer advised her to say no comment in police interview (the majority of solicitors advise this).

The police decided to pass the case to CPS and the CPS decided to prosecute. Haigh attended court, admitted she had not told the police and accepted a conditional discharge.

Politics being politics- her court case and conditional discharge came to media spotlight at the end of 2024. Haigh decided to resigned her cabinet role as transport secretary.

She was highly supportive of Burnham in the Makerfield by election campaign. They align in values so she may well have some role in Burnham's cabinet if he is elected.....

I m asking about the accusations of childishness, the 'report them' suggestions (after all the hoo haa over the past month or so) and the 'some members' comment.

Vague accusations made at 'some members', but no substance at all. What's going on?

I think a lot of this is a combination of really hot weather here and some members being upset by Starmer resigning.

I just don’t understand why criticising the posting of opinions based on false information ( even if it’s not deliberate) is defended at all. And if I were living abroad and posting on here, I would be extra careful in checking the facts on which I was basing my negative statements about the UK.

How have we gone from how awful it is to report people to suggesting people should be reported for questioning where someone gets their information from?

My brother and his family are Australian citizens, but I don't take that to mean that I have a better overview of their politicians than if they lived anywhere else in the world. It would only ever be a partial view, surely? He can tell me how policies affect him, but not how they impact on people in other parts of the country, or those in different circumstances from his own.

I could offer a theoretical view on particular policies, but no more than that, and even then, I wouldn't expect to be taken as seriously as an Australian.
