In the immortal words of Brenda from Bristol, «Not another one!»

This is a wheeze, a dodge, a distraction, an expensive waste of time and an attempt to wriggle out of the morass he has got himself into,

They chose Farage. If I was the other parties I might for one second think what that means.

Cossy are you warm enough down the coast ?

Yep!! More than warm enough! How about you?

We have our bedroom in a loft extensions, it’s hideously hot, luckily our living room faces east and doesn’t get much sun as all the other terraced houses block it, so with a good powerful fan, curtains closed and lots of cold drinks it feels quite nice! Only issue is it’s so nice and cool I feel energised but then when I enter our other rooms the heat really hits home and I’ve done so little of anything throughout the hot weather!

I think the Uniparty have created one almighty mess of this country in recent years. Importing millions of foreigners and the associated costs have ensured we cannot protect ourselves militarily.

We are a nation divided by the policies these parasitic politicians have imposed on hard working decent British people.

And the foreigners that used to come here before Farages Brexit, the lorry drivers, builders etc no longer come here thanks to him and the fact they were made unwelcome after the referendum. We now have just as many immigrants I believe but I’ve no idea what their skills are. And why mention immigrants. I thought the leave voters and Reform supporters are always telling us it isn’t about ‘ foreigners’?

Do you mean, the message that sends?

I absolutely agree with you, having said that though the “promises” Farage is making aren’t actually do-able, not in the timescales people now demand.

How is he going to stop the boats? What will he do (within current laws/legislation) that both Tories and Labour haven’t done? How can he dramatically raise the tax threshold without any proper costing? As for the NHS, I’ve no idea what he proposes for this now, given that his “suggestions” for this appear to have wavered. How is he going to radically and dramatically and quickly improve the working man’s life?

These are actual people you know. They deserve more than a comedian inside a bin.

They deserve better than Farage that's the whole point. The fact that the only one standing against him is a bin is ludicrous.

I don't think that 'the bin' is the only person intending to stand against Farage. We'll have to wait until the candidates are announced before we really know.

In the meantime, are the people who are lamenting the lack of choice for the people of Clacton (and its environs) actually defending Farage's totally unnecessary gambit?

If they are, could they explain why it was so vital?

I think that it is utterly despicable that Farage is using his voters in this way. Can anyone persuade me to change my mind?

I think the salient point here is, if Mr Farage genuinely cares about his constituency, would he really leave them totally without representation and cause this media circus? Cossy

I totally agree with you. They might as well have a bin representing them.

Well they might well find they have in the future 🤣🤣🤣

And from then on Farage could be known as the HasBinMan!

Errr perhaps the fact that some of the general public and even football supporters even at games he attended chanted Starmers a xxxxxx didn't help and he was the most disliked PM ever, I think yes his party did the dirty on him but only because they realised he couldn't win another General Election because the majority of the British public disliked him.

Would you all be happy with a bin representing you?

The Bin is an Oxford graduate, so I suspect he has some intellectual ability.

Cossy Thu 09-Jul-26 12:15:39

Brexit caused us a huge issue with HGV drivers and the Tories did attempt to address this by massively funding training for those out of work to retrain. It didn’t really pan out, it also left us with a deficit of baggage handlers at airports, which again both the civil aviation and govt attempted to address by encouraging our 18-24 year old NEETs to train in, again not very successfully.

Then there’s the roles we know still have huge holes, Nurses/Doctors/GPs/Dentists/Carers/Early Years/Nursery Staff.

Youth unemployment is a big issue and part of it, sadly, is down to lack of motivation and aspiration, which needs to start in Secondary Schools, but many of the careers staff have been laid off due to school budget deficits.

The bin contains an intelligent and articulate human being. with a comic bent. I don't have a problem with that.

Remember the sneering at Zelensky for having been a 'comedian' (albeit one with a law degree)? Anyone sneering now?

If it was the Oxford Educated Comedian, Jonathon Harvey, then why not?

People keep saying give people a chance, why not give give Count Binface a chance??

Galaxy Thu 09-Jul-26 12:24:29

Because he is reflecting the beliefs that many hold, people might not like that but it is true. It isn't all about money I don't think - Reforms rise wouldn't have been so swift in a more prosperous time, but it isnt just that. It is the divide between the two groups, their beliefs, their language, what is important to them. I honestly don't really see how it can be overcome.
The 'working man' doesn't want to be told that diversity is our strength, that men are women, that the union jack is bad, that they benefit from white privilege, and on and on. Maizie will say I am again projecting what groups of people think, and maybe she is right. But you know when people choose farage or Trump ( and they are completely different whatever people say) it is worth looking at what people had to choose from.
Say I was in a competition for top feminist grin and the public unanimously voted for Jim Davison ahead of me, I might for one second think perhaps my form of feminism isn't what people want.

AGAA4 Thu 09-Jul-26 12:24:50

The only thing lamentable MaizieD is that Farage has used the people of Clacton for his own ends. He has done nothing for them and has put them through another by election. If he doesn't want to do.the work as their MP he should not only have stepped down but stepped away and allowed someone else to be their MP.

MissAdventure Thu 09-Jul-26 12:26:23

Why doesn't the Oxford graduate stand as he is?
Surely he'd be more likely to get votes as himself, with his own merit.

Cossy Thu 09-Jul-26 12:30:00

I would stress, once again, no one is “laughing” at the people of Clacton.

Some might wonder why they want to hang onto Farage, some might wonder why they’ve not questioned why Farage is creating this fiasco, some us dislike Farage for his dramatic stunts.

Not one person in here has “laughed” at the people of Clacton.

Some have raised the point that Farage may (or may not) have raised some of the issues in certain wards in Clacton, but this isn’t only Clacton, or Essex but countrywide.

I ask again, what is it that these people actually want? What do they think Farage can do (& only Farage it seems) to improve their lives and their community? More importantly, what has he done thus far?

I’ve seen so much criticism of Starmer, what has Farage done in the same last two years that directly benefits the people of Clacton?

vegansrock Thu 09-Jul-26 12:30:53

The fact that we have had two dominant parties is down to the fptp system - don't blame the voters - its our antiquated electoral system that means we always seem to get governments that the majority did NOT vote for. Meanwhile, Farage is totally to blame for throwing his toys out of the pram and standing for THE SAME JOB he isn’t doing now and pretending its giving the poor folk of Clacton some sort of referendum( we all know how that pans out).. meanwhile the more I hear from Binface the more I like him maybe those who say its time for a change - how about a real change?

Cossy Thu 09-Jul-26 12:33:55

Great question, because he only stands as a comedic character with amusing (some feel) policies. He has stood in a good number of elections.

MaizieD Thu 09-Jul-26 12:41:00

The 'working man' doesn't want to be told that diversity is our strength, that men are women, that the union jack is bad, that they benefit from white privilege, and on and on.

I would say that many of the beliefs your examples violate are beliefs which have been drummed into generations of the British population by a ruling elite who used them to cement their wealth and their privilege'. Nobody is born believing or disbelieving these things. They are now being exploited by much the same people who want to hold on to their power and wealth.

Was the Labour movement, fighting for improved pay and conditions for workers and a say in the government of the nation, funded by extremely wealthy men who, for some unfathomable reason, wanted to support this movement to destroy their position in the hierarchy? History tells me that they were far more likely to fight them than support them.

Moves towards greater equality, better working conditions, protection of rights, better distribution of wealth etc. are not usually initiated and backed by billionaires...

62Granny Thu 09-Jul-26 12:41:32

I also started a thread but don't mind others doing one as I always think no one looks at every post and every answer , lets not brush this despicable man and his party to one side, Keep his name and wrongdoings out there. There was a video on FB the other day showing a lady , Susan, from Clacton, saying that he is never in the consistency and he has 12 jobs beside being an MP , commentator, brand Ambassador, speaking engagement, some like Sky News Australia , Happy Birthday Videos for a company called Cameo, in total since his Election to becoming their MP he has pocketed and extra
£1, 182,498, I doubt very much He has paid tax on the most of that as another of the companies advises people on how to avoid paying it!

But Galaxy, I’m probably being completely dense, what exactly do the people of Clacton and others who support Reform actually want?

What is it they are being promised?

What is their desired paradise or personal utopia? I truly genuinely don’t understand?

Immigration used by Farage is has always been euphemism for race.

You can see it frequently in posts on this site.

Oreo Thu 09-Jul-26 13:11:04

The fact that many people want to vote Reform shows how very badly the last few Conservative governments and the present Labour government are doing.
Reform wouldn’t exist and do well if it wasn’t the case.

Casdon Thu 09-Jul-26 13:25:52

The rise and fall of the right is not a new phenomenon in British politics, it goes back at least 100 years, and so far each successive movement has ultimately imploded
