Indeed. Many US citizens are just so insular - they simply do not take an interest in world matters (the ideal of course is building a movement in the US against it, and there are people doing it, but sadly atm more are concerned with oil prices at the pump and Iran et al.

I was listening to a former zionist Isreali on YouTube who has now moved to USA He was explaining how he came to realise Isreal is an ethno colonial and mitilitaristic state. Kids are being brainwashed to thinking they are better than there neighbours Palestinians. At 15 you prepare for the IDF. He couldn't in his heart join the fighting killing so stayed behind in training youngsters etc. He went out with IDF were told to make your presence felt, then thought what does that mean for the Palistinians what does that feel like, he felt empathy. He began an awakening a realisation of what the state of Isreal is the othering the propaganda all to make youngsters want to always fight to see Palestinians as lesser. It has always been like this.

I know the people doing this are vile. I have stopped expecting them to do the right thing — that is not on brand for them.

What I have learned is how they respond when you refuse to go away and weep in silence.

Not because they do not care. Because they cannot afford to stop. Grief has become deferred. Pain arrives on an installment plan. Everyone has gone numb just to keep functioning, and the numbness is its own kind of damage — quieter than a bomb, slower, and harder to treat.
The desperate need is turning people against each other. People are not themselves anymore — they do not recognize themselves, and neither do we. It is psychological, and it is spreading.

You hear it in how people talk to their families, in the conversations coming out of Nablus and Hebron. The trauma is not staying in Gaza.

It is moving.
The Israeli regime keeps moving the goalposts. They told the last administration "two more weeks" for two years, while shifting to new objectives, new targets, new justifications.

And in the process we lose our families, our places, and our faith that any of this ends the way it should.

I sometimes ask myself: when this is over, what will I do? What are my hobbies? What does my mind reach for when it is not carrying this?

I honestly do not know anymore. The anniversaries alone — if we are lucky enough to survive to them — come with videos we have to revisit, family members we have to miss all over again. There is no clean way through that.

It has been going on so long I cannot imagine the other side of it. The person who sells homes or writes code or makes your overpriced cup of coffee can burn out and step away.

This is not a job I can leave. It is tied to everything I define myself by.

A simple hello to my parents on the phone brings it all right back

If someone is not feeling well, I catch myself praying they will not need a medical evacuation that is not coming.

Some of these posts heal me. Some of them cost me something. But I feel a fundamental obligation to keep writing.
Not because I am not exhausted. I am.

On 9 August, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the US-backed 15-point plan for Gaza.
On 10 August, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that Israeli military operations continue across Gaza, resulting in Palestinian civilian casualties.
On 16 August, an Israeli minister called for routine daily killing of dozens of Palestinians in Gaza.
The NPF Annual Report 2026 does not reference any atrocities committed in Gaza by the Israeli state, but Israel has violated the October 2025 Gaza ‘ceasefire’ thousands of times, with more than 1,250 Palestinians killed in that time, and in June 2026 the UN Independent Commission of Inquiry report confirmed that Israel’s genocide in Gaza is ongoing.
Israel is on trial for genocide at the ICJ and in 2024 the ICJ judged that Israel’s occupation of Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, to be unlawful and ruled that Israel was in violation of the international prohibition on racial segregation and apartheid.

There are IMO very good reasons for singling out those responsible for the atrocities being carried out on the West Bank Wyllow.

The extremes of any religion thinks of itself as God's chosen people.
There are not good grounds for singling one group out. Think of some Christian cults one would apply those words to.

He has not condemned the settlements himself, indeed he supports them as his regime has brought in more and more legal acceptance of one settlement after another.

If Netanyahu really condemned them he would do something about it.

The library that has Gaza children's art (some of who have died) exhibition had a book to write your thoughts which will be given to Gaza. Children in the library drew art which was photographed to send to Gaza children. Sligo had the first exhibition, so the art is touring around.

Netanyahu is quite happy with the situation. The war goes on which is what he wants. Peace is not something he is interested in.

It is totally shocking what has been happening in the West Bank. These settlers are religious zealots with extreme views, thankfully they don't represent all Israelis anymore than Hamas represents all Palestinians. It is not difficult to make comparisons between the government of Israel supporting these settlers and the political wing of Hamas supporting the vile atrocities committed by it's military wing. What chance of peace is there when people on both sides are allowed to commit such violence?
