I would say that all GN members that I have seen ‘seek peace between cultures’ .

Well, sadly, I'd say very divided camps, Oreo.

There have always been fears (ie, enoch Powell et al - indeed - going back to the days of Empire) of those with different ethnicities. Myths created around cultures that were "not ours".

These fears and myths, always present for some, have had the flames fanned by the Right of recent times, in the way I describe above.

Twisting it "the other way round" and blaming those who seek peace between cultures, to me is very invidious.

It is my strong belief that the constant barrage of racism and near racism, fostered particularly by the right, who often do not seem to see home grown crimes as significant as those done by a diverse population:

This thread is attempting to address those issues through a particular and very sad example:

All cases are very different.The sisters in the nature reserve were grown adults know to have been attending a late gathering there, so police wouldn’t have given that priority.
The photo taking was awful and goes against all police rules.

The bodies were found 36 hours after the murder. During all that time, the police refused to define them as missing persons. The Met eventually apologised for that failing

It’s the nature of SM to be outraged about everything and to accuse others of not being as saintly/ compassionate as themselves when they know sod all about either other posters or the general public.
We shouldn’t fall into the trap of believing them.
Most people, regardless of race or religion or anything else regard intruder in the home murder as terrible and even worse than murder anywhere else.It’s the one place that we feel safe in.

I know the Glasgow case had nothing to do with race. I think it’s pretty obvious why I was quoting this example. As for the school deaths, I was quoting one of the fathers who believes that race influenced the behaviour of the police investigating the incident. It wouldn’t be the first time would it? Remember the two black sisters murdered in a London park and how the family found their bodies when the police had refused to search? And the photographs?

Oreo - now she is finally going to court, we will hopefully find out the truth. There must be more than a ‘medical blackout’ to the story. I have memories of a bin lorry driver in Glasgow. blacking out and people dying, turned out he’d been told not to drive by his doctor. So who knows?

That had nothing to do with race, and neither was the sad case of the school deaths.

Well anyone who thinks race and ethnicity are not live issues in Oz is clearly living in cloud cuckoo land

Of course it shouldn't diminish the murder but it does because the discourse is so muted. I’m reminded of the death of the two little girls mowed down by a woman driver outside their school. She was white and they were not. The parents have had to fight really hard to get a proper investigation and for charges to be brought. The father of at least one of the girls believes that race played a factor in how the case was initially handled So yes being the wrong race does often result in your death being diminished.

The woman driver that crashed into the school wasn’t drunk, nor had she taken drugs.She and police believed it was a medical black out.
The Father who believes that she was treated too leniently because of ethnicity is grieving so is entitled to believe what he likes but it doesn’t make it true.The death of children is never taken lightly.
