A good start in my opinion.

MissAdventure Mon 20-Jul-26 23:50:06

If you like that sort of thing, I suppose.

Oh gawd.
Are we back to criticising other women's clothes, again.

Yes we are - nice isn’t it?

MissAdventure Mon 20-Jul-26 23:47:46

It took a while, must have been a soap in the telly.

Grammaretto Mon 20-Jul-26 23:39:03

Maybe the dress didn't cost her. Designer s love public figures (no pun intended) to model their clothes.
I can't imagine anything worse than wearing spanx in the hot weather.
It's all sexist because we never hear about what the men are wearing. They look hot and uncomfortable.

merlotgran Mon 20-Jul-26 23:30:44

The dress didn’t do her any favours and it’s hard to believe it cost nearly £900!

We have some talented needlewomen on Gransnet who could no doubt run up something more flattering for a fraction of the cost.
I’d love to know their opinions.

Tuliptree Mon 20-Jul-26 23:25:09

She’s an incredibly clever successful woman and maybe just maybe she just doesn’t care how she looks (and who on earth wants to wear Spanx? ).

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 20-Jul-26 23:15:48

I don’t know why Grammaretto. On one level it’s observations about clothing. On another, upon reflection, it is mean. AB’s wife didn't ask to be in the public eye. She is just doing her best to support her husband and hoping to get it right. She is not a super model. We ought not to criticise.

I feel bad I mentioned Spanx (although I would’ve to a friend before she went out in that dress).

Grammaretto Mon 20-Jul-26 22:57:14

Why do women bitch about other women and comment on their clothes and looks?
What has what our new PM's wife looks like got to do with running the country?
Please explain?

United Kingdom is on its way to becoming a secondary Peru, a merkel or a staunch thatcher who puts on the nation apart from the current party, the tone he has taken, I do not like I could follow a line to the blair that seems inadequate to me

What does this mean, please?

Also, are the people putting down AR's lack of a degree the same ones who believe that other people's children many young people should be denied the chance to go to university, as it is equally valid to learn on the job, as in the good old days?

The Rayner SDLT row was always missing the point. If she had been deliberately trying to avoid the higher rate she would have postponed buying a property until her disabled son turned 18 a year later. She was foolish not to take better advice but trust tax law is a complex issue and few general practitioners will have understood it.

Very happy to see her back at CHLG.

So Angela Rayner gets reappointed as Housing Secretary.
Clever move AB.

Pity she doesn’t know anything about Stamp Duty. 😉

Oh I expect she knows plenty about it now. Nothing like learning from your mistakes.

Clothing??
Useless information alert ......
Did you know that the new PM's wife wore a Victoria Beckham designer dress?
Unusual pastel colour.

As you were.

Good choice.
However at £900 for a dress … mind you would’ve looked better with Spanx underneath it. Just a thought.

However she did wear M&S on Saturday and sandals by Boden so ✔️

The colour suits her hair and complexion but she should have bought the size larger. Too clingy on her tummy and thighs.

That’s why the Civil Service hold things together as each Minister gets on top of their brief.
Some Ministers do better than others at this of course.

Same role? Heard she was to be health secretary!

I don’t understand how they all swap roles. How can they be put in a position that they know nothing about. Housing one minute, health next.
Surely you would put the most experienced in that role!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 20-Jul-26 21:42:03

I was waiting for Angela Eagle to arrive. Sort of, anyway.
