U.S. President Donald Trump wants FIFA President Gianni Infantino (latest bud-ski) *to become the next secretary-general of the United Nations, the New York Post reported Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
According to the report, Trump believes Infantino could help revitalise the United Nations, which the U.S. president has repeatedly criticised as ineffective in addressing major global conflicts.
Since returning to office, Trump has slashed U.S. funding to the organization, withdrawn Washington from several UN bodies and pursued parallel diplomatic initiatives, including establishing a Board of Peace, though he has clarified that it is not intended to replace the United Nations.
(and this is the man that changed the USA Defence Department to the War Department 😬)
The talks of a leadership change come amid increasing tensions between Israel and the United Nations under current Secretary-General António Guterres. Israel has accused Guterres and the organization of bias throughout its Gaza campaign, while Guterres has sharply criticized Israel's military conduct.
Last month, a UN-mandated commission accused Israeli authorities of deliberately targeting Palestinian children in Gaza and the West Bank and alleged Israel had committed genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes – allegations Israel has repeatedly rejected.
In recent months, Guterres has also condemned Israeli legislation targeting UNRWA and added Israeli security forces to a UN blacklist of parties accused of conflict-related sexual violence, prompting strong condemnation from Jerusalem.
Guterres is due to step down at the end of the year. His successor will require the backing of the 15-member UN Security Council, where any of the five permanent members can exercise a veto, before being confirmed by the General Assembly.
The Post cited a source close to Trump as saying the president believes Infantino is "respected by everyone around the world" and has "a special ability to bring people together." Trump and the Swiss-born FIFA chief reportedly developed a close relationship while organizing this year's World Cup, with Infantino frequently appearing alongside the president during the tournament.
It remains unclear whether Infantino is interested in the position or whether Trump has discussed the proposal with him. According to the report, Trump believes the current field of candidates is weak and sees an opening for an alternative contender.

Latest Trump "unbelievable!! !" plan
(24 Posts)I take it he could veto other candidates?
I take it other Members could veto Infantino.
If there is a stalemate then ask the present person in post to extend their tenure.
Trump is not immortal.
Fortunately.
It's telling, however, where the trail leads back to, which is Netanyahu's regime. Trump attempting more machinations on the world stage.
Infanto is corrupt and dodgy - he is currently under scrutiny and faces formal calls for investigation from European lawmakers and human rights groups regarding allegations of political bias, lack of transparency, and ethical violations.
For some time. ...and most recently of course, Infantino faced massive backlash in July 2026 after FIFA controversially suspended an automatic one-match ban on US Men’s National Team striker Folarin Balogun.
The reversal occurred after U.S. President Donald Trump intervened and pressed Infantino to review a red card Balogun received against Bosnia-Herzegovina
Infantino has made no secret of the fact that he is interested in a political career.
Yes, Trump intervened, and Team USA lost to Belgium.
Sometimes Karma has a kick.
I expect it’s just another of Trump’s dead cats of distraction from something worse that he wants to not hit the headlines. I’m finding it increasingly hard to believe anything he says now.
Trump's interference in anything causes problems the worst being Iran.
He should concentrate on the job he was given and stop believing he is king of the world.
Hopefully Infantino will be rejected. Is he biased towards Israel I wonder.
Hopefully
Trump wants him thete as Infantino will do anything Trump asks him to do. He's Trumps lap dog. He knows as much about UN as Trump does about football or to him 'saaawker'
Trump must have found a way to funnel money for himself and wants a yes man there. /s

“Will no one rid the US of this turbulent President?”!!!!
With apologies to Henry II…
What an appalling idea!

😎😎😎😁😁😁
Well, Trumpy continues to mess up the Middle East - less than 24 hours after signing a big fat deal with the Saudis he turned on them and demanded they fully recognise Israel or it would be no deal.
Talk about throwing fat on the fire.......

And there have been whispers in the tabloids concerning "certain historical allegations" about Infantino's past behaviour.
We'll see. These matters have a habit of snowballing once the press sharks smell blood.
He needs to go he has definitely lost it. He has all these stupid yes men round him telling him he's right when he is bonkers.
That's incredible as regards the Saudi's! Just checked, no last minute news - they will be discussing it right now.
Previously they have insisted that Israel's regimes must recognise Palestine Statehood.
Its tempting for them however - its not just about weapons -
The new nuclear deal was expected to last 30 years, transferring US technology and expertise to the kingdom to help meet the kingdom’s growing energy needs.
·
But to break ranks on this - to be seen to "grovel" to the US and Trump especially.....?

If Saudi do grovel this will be a real game changer in the ME and not for the better.
Cannot see it happening but then the world today is not the world I thought it was, so who knows.
Right now the US and Israel seem to be calling all the shots and there are very few checks and balances, in fact none at all that I can see.
its a high risk strategy both for Trump and the Saudis. If the Saudis now say "no", Trump will look more of a fool than ever,
but if they says yes, they will effectively be under a certain amount of control by the USA as in continuing to supply the technology over years.
