We have a new Premier

In politics that reminds me heavily of Starmer and the UK we have just seen our state premier ,Jacinta Allan , overthrown by Ben Carroll just a few months before an election. Not going too deeply into it but it seems she was heavily involved or maybe cowed by the building unions who are being investigated for fraud. What is it with politics these days ? She hasn’t been the best and neither was her predecessor, Daniel Andrews. Wouldn’t it be just so nice to have an honest, capable and trustworthy politician with the interests of the country at heart?

You frequently comment on UK political Threads, and I am embarrassed to admit that I know nothing or very little about the situation in your domain.

Both Sunak and Starmer had failings, but as far as we know were honest and trustworthy, there were no scandals about their personal or financial dealings, so I don’t think we have been in quite the same position as it sounds like your state might be nanna8. Is it suggested that your premier took bribes?

No one really knows , Casdon and it may be that the very, very powerful CFMEU threatened her or something. Personally I wouldn’t class her as dishonest but certainly out of her depth. To leave just before an election is quite unusual. We are talking about state politics rather than national politics, though. Our PM remains the same. Love him or leave him !

I guess a parallel here would be the mayors, although they have less power than your state premiers do, so it is a significant post. Do your media hound until they get to the bottom of what is happening, or will they let it go?

The difference Maremia is that nanna8 was born and brought up in the UK so comments from a point of some knowledge. You, I think, have never lived in Australia so why would you have any particular knowledge of its political terrain? Surely no need for embarrassment.

That’s what very many people in the UK think too, and probably in most countries.Sleaze, greed, corruption seem to have increased as the years go on.🤬

Many people have fled Victoria because it has become so expensive to live here. We pay huge and unwarranted taxes when buying houses, on just about everything and have become the highest taxed state in Australia. If we were younger we would flee to Queensland but we stay because our family is all here, just grit our teeth and hope things will improve. Cost of houses is similar to London, ridiculous.

It must be a really good State to live in if the prices are so high so at least there’s that?
Better temperate weather ? Lovely areas? Less snakes?

A few snakes but they keep away from people. When we lived in Tasmania, quite a bit colder, we saw a lot of them. Only see them maybe once every couple of years here !

That’s something then! I hate the things.
Is Victoria a lovely state, countryside and so on?
