Mainly from Morocco and Algeria.

I saw a picture of a young lad in just shorts and no shoes. These people are so vulnerable.
Awful.

greyfur Fri 31-Jul-26 14:19:16

"invade" How unpleasant.

Galaxy Fri 31-Jul-26 14:04:03

Good luck with that.

Yes but the population will vote for the 'far right', and to be honest why wouldn't they.

Because even the dimmest have realised that Nigel and Tommy have just one agenda, enriching Nigel and Tommy, nothing else.

Daft question I know, but I do wonder how Spain is able to hang on to Ceuta when it's sited in North Africa parallel to our situation with Gibraltar hmm

same way we hang on to the Falklands, and Northern Ireland.

If the current governments don't police their borders, address the issues, then the populations will vote for governments that will. That is the choice really.

Not really, because even with a far right government such as the current one in Italy, there were over 66,000 by sea migrants last year. It’s only ever going to stop by countries working together to stop entry, and with the countries whose citizens are so desperate to leave.

Grandmabatty Fri 31-Jul-26 13:30:43

So they crossed from North Africa to North Africa?
🤔

Graphite Fri 31-Jul-26 13:19:04

If only stupid young men … concentrated on creating their own healthy communities.

What a strange thing to say.

At the same time the UK discusses that lack of opportunities for young people, record numbers of NEETS and so, and looks at ways to tackle it, speaking as if young people in other countries have control of those drivers is somewhat naive.

At least 34 people have died in the latest crossing. People don’t risk that unless they are desperate for a new life.

Countries don't 'need' borders because country borders already exist.

The issue is how countries and their allies decide how to control and manage their borders.

A country is broken if it cannot control its borders.

Well, no country CAN control its borders. If it's a vast country like USA, its borders with Mexico and Canada are so huge they will always leak.

A not-huge island like Britain or Ireland has a huge coastline, most of it unoccupied and unobserved , where boats can land.

In Africa, Europe etc every country borders many others and anyone on two feet can walk across borders at night unseen.

None of this is new, humans have been migrating for ever.

nanna8 Fri 31-Jul-26 13:02:45

They all looked pretty fit and happy to have made the crossing. Most had nothing with them and I was wondering who is going to feed them. They did not seem to be particularly poor and oppressed, well built and very young and strong enough to have swum over. Good luck Spain, and no doubt some will also make their way and be welcomed in the UK.

Aveline Fri 31-Jul-26 12:46:42

What a potential disaster for all concerned. If only stupid young men didn't fight and just looking for reasons to hate others but concentrated on creating their own healthy communities we wouldn't have all these situations. Tribalism!

It’s frightening 😳

It absolutely is!

Gran22boys Fri 31-Jul-26 12:41:25

Where’s all this going to end up I wonder? AI is going to mean there won’t be many jobs in Europe either. I truly can’t think of a solution.

Shel1951 Fri 31-Jul-26 12:07:16

I wonder how this will effect Spanish culture? If they welcome the culture and integrate it shouldn't be a problem, the problem for me is when they bring their own culture and live within their culture it doesn't work if cultures clash,
Just my opinion

Wyllow3 Fri 31-Jul-26 11:53:10

My goodness, I think it's rather more than that! Countries all over Europe do or don't support Palestine in different ways or not.

No, I think we have to look at movements in Europe as a whole. and why people leave, ie, what its going on in their country.

TerriBull Fri 31-Jul-26 11:51:19

Oh well, I always remember being told this story by a guide when we were going round the Alhambra, almost certainly apocryphal. When the Moors were expelled from Spain some kept keys to their properties in the hope that they would return one day. Maybe those keys were passed down through the generations. Although no doubt the houses may have long since been demolished.

Samwam Fri 31-Jul-26 11:42:24

It's because Spain supports Palestine.

The chief prosecutor ICC court what happened.

LemonJam Fri 31-Jul-26 11:38:51

TerriBull- that may well be the underlying political tension between Morocco and Spain?
