Mega dinghies transport 230 migrants in one go. 80,000 arrived under Labour.

Have been in supermarket this morning and all the newspapers are headlining these mega dinghy photos packed to capacity with approx 230 people. No longer can we call them small boats. Their capacity is now more than a Boeing 737 jet!

More than 3,000 migrants have arrived in 22 days and 80,000 have now arrived under Labour. That is the population of towns like Shrewsbury, Great Yarmouth or Chatham in Kent.

Burnham pledged to sort this out but we have bigger boats arriving and still throwing millions of £ at France who are doing nothing except laughing in his face. He honestly does need to do something and fast.

No one ( apart from Reform of course) ever said it was going to be a quick fix

A quick fix?

I think everyone has had about 8 years so far?

I do wonder why there isn’t the will to stop this. They say it’s organised crime facilitating all of this. I wonder if politicians from all parties are afraid for their own safety and that of their families from these criminals which is why there is no effort to stop it.
Just a thought. I can see no reason why this allowed.

If you were to listen to just one of the episodes I posted above you might get a handle on understanding who horrendously difficult it is.
I doubt if the people smugglers in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Ethiopia, Sudan etc, etc could even name our Priminister plus they wouldn’t know what an MP is.
Do you know how difficult it is to decode a burner phone ?

No. I haven’t listened to the episodes you posted. I see no other countries being invaded on a daily basis like we are apart from the recent Ceuta incident.

I still think politicians are afraid to tackle this issue. Why, we don’t know. They all know their lives would be so much easier if they did so why don’t they? That’s the conundrum.

I’m not familiar with burner phones Petra. Never used one. For sure migrants in the countries you list may not know our prime minister especially at the rate we change them here. But, the criminals and masterminds operating in the UK most certainly do. There’s food for thought.

Try reading some European newspapers Silvershadow, that will open your eyes. Here’s the bigger picture for the EU.

In 2025, European Union external borders recorded over 177,000 detections of illegal border crossings.
Additionally, official Eurostat data showed 719,395 people were found to be illegally present within EU member states during the year.
Border Crossings and Enforcement
Irregularities Border Detections:
Over 177,000 total illegal entries were detected by Frontex at EU external borders.
Refused Entry: 132,600 third-country nationals were turned away at external borders, up 7.1% from 2024.
Orders to Leave: 491,950 non-EU citizens were issued formal orders to leave an EU country.

If an island can’t defend itself, who can ? Might as well give up.

Silvershadow Wed 12-Aug-26 13:31:01

Thank you Casdon but I do not have the time, much less the inclination, to troll through European newspapers but thank you for that thought.

I see Sweden have taken a hard line. So have the Poles. So, again, why can’t we? Why don’t we? What’s stopping our politicians from doing it. What or who are they afraid of.

If Burnham sorted this, he’d be prime minister forever!

I realise the French don’t want them, why should they, so quick get the dinghy into the sea and pass off the problem to us. Easy.

Why post as though you are speaking with authority without bothering to spend a couple of minutes checking out the facts? That is one thing I will never understand about some Gransnetters.

We have a problem here ,the officals say they are vetted but how can that be? They come through Europe from outside and are unknown, then travel throwing any papers they have away?
Where my granddaughter went to primary /juniors next door was the guards but across the road they put single men that were meant to be vetted, along from my granddaughters school is another boys junior school and further on this road is a secondary mixed school, then across from that is a all girls secondary school and an all boys secondary school....it did worry me and still does knowing she will be going on to secondary school

Attempting to patronise won’t work as a distraction technique I’m afraid. Just check the facts.

Yes, you could well be right! Ferries next. All on board for the gravy train. No qualifications or criminal record checks necessary.

I don’t think you’ll find I’m the patronising type Casdon. Not my style. But there are plenty on here who are.

‘As a conversational remark "Bless you" can be patronising: If someone responds to a serious complaint, an adult's mistake, or a basic piece of information with "Oh, bless" or "Bless you," it can feel deeply condescending.’

I really hate people saying ‘bless you’ to me…

I believe you’ve stated before you live in Wales Casdon. Would that be in Ceredigion area by any chance? I’m just wondering as they’re named today as one of the 15 areas in the UK who have no asylum seekers. Interesting that.

Mind you, Andy will be ensuring they will be there with his new dispersal order.

Casdon Wed 12-Aug-26 15:15:01

No, I don’t live in Ceredigion Silvershadow, not that that has anything to do with inaccurate information being posted about this subject.

Well I expect you wouldn't. But it is important to know accurate facts re what is actually happening in France before commenting isn't it. And France is making clear statemebts about what they are actually doing/the problems they are dealing with- which have been reported in UK press!

I wouldn’t be surprised if they tweaked the figures, tbh.

If you did you would find out what is actually happening in France rather than the fantasy version that is put out by some UK media.

Well possibly but then if thats the case then best to ignore all newspapers I suppose. Frankly the stuff reported in our Press re problems French face in dealing, make absolute sense though The accurate figures quoted by another poster are official figures from govt. I believe ....?

Have you calculated how many arrived under The Tories?

Whataboutery!!

Yes maybe Mammie.
I don’t read the papers.
