Yes, it's on Facebook, but a specific account by the makers.

A must see. Kind of moving as well as funny and to the point.

Farage our best hope? What a depressing thought.

Isn’t it just.

Maremia Fri 14-Aug-26 08:42:34

Farage has won, againt 30 comedy acts.
Looking forward to his victory speech.

Wyllow3 Fri 14-Aug-26 07:32:25

No it came up in my Facebook newsfeed which arrives in an email every 2 days or so.

Allsorts Fri 14-Aug-26 07:29:53

The amusing references to a "uni party" e.g. the UK needs to get "away from the uni party approach that has dominated politics for the last 100 years' has no meaning in reality. Not least because the UK has had a variety of political parties in a majority or coalition government at various stages over the last 100 years. Posters who use the term 'uni party' have not explained what this 'uni party' we have had for a 100 years consists or comprises of not least Reform UK itself. It sounds like they are referring to any party that is not Reform UK.

Reform UK has never won a GE since formulating, so it says whatever it can to grab headlines, upset and destabilise the status quo in order to advance its ambitions. Reform UK can try agin at the next GE and see how it fares...

However judging by the actions and behaviours of some of its lead officers and if such behaviours and actions continue over the next three years it won't win the next GE either.

Yusef just beggars belief. Reform UK are well aware of his limitations and the risk he poses such that the party will not even allow him to stand as an MP.

I m surprised it’s so high - but maybe the votes are for CB. Clutches at straws

Wyllow3 Thu 13-Aug-26 22:53:14

43% turnout estimated. (Beeb I player has a running news feed, that was returning officer estimate)
www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c5y40d11zewt

In 2024 it was 58% plus.
Yes have checked.

Pretty low given the focus on it: Reform spent £150.000 on it and of course flooded the area with supporters. Spending limit is £180,050.

apart from other considerations, Farage has no track record of staying power with one group, and ^ his parties have endured serious splits^

But above all, he has never had to manage a government department as a minister - or even lead a local council. He has always been as it were, oppositional. With this lack of experience he is simply not suitable.

He has also treated parliament with disrespect from the beginning. But this is our democracy: we can be relatively proud of it, indeed at the time of Brexit it was all about our sovereignty through our system

We lose it at our great cost as we look over the world.

There is a Reform representative on BBC Newsnight tonight. When asked why NF called the by election he said it was to give the people of Clacton the opportunity to express their support for NF. He was only elected 2 years ago, if he wants constant reassurance, is he going to call a by election every year, just to see if people still like him? This has simply been a vanity project for him.

Tuliptree Thu 13-Aug-26 22:50:18

I can’t work out how they physically handle the voting paper - it must be a first

JenniRen Thu 13-Aug-26 22:48:19

I'm glad I'm not counting!

Well the votes are in. Counting has begun in the Clacton by election. (Why do some posters refer to it as a bi-election? 🤷‍♀️)

Farage should win easily but the press will obviously be all over turn out and what significance that has on a general election tomorrow.

The country needs a complete change in government in my opinion, away from the uni party approach that has dominated politics for the last 100 years and although not perfect Farage is our best hope for change.

I agree about picking up on the references to a bi- election !
Not bi-sexual, binary, biennial or even biannual.
A by-election quite simply.
From there on I disagree of course about Farage- but perhaps that’s for another day.

Graphite Thu 13-Aug-26 22:29:45

This repeated use of the term uni-party amuses me because it was coined to describe totalitarianism - which is exactly what you would get with a Reform government. It has made no secret that it wants to remove our human rights.

20C examples of a uni-party were the governments of Hitler and Stalin.

Have you seen what that madman Yusuf is up to now? Trying to dismantle the mobile infrastructure underpinning most of Britain's emergency response.

Honestly, Reform supporters. Wake up.

Suki70 Thu 13-Aug-26 22:29:22

I can’t imagine anything worse than a Reform government with Farage in charge. We would indeed all be doomed.

Whatever the result it has no impact whatsoever on next GE in three years- not least because no other major parties chose to engage in Farage’s stunt!

You are entitled to your personal opinion but as Andy Burnham is PM of the party in Governent for the next three years and has higher personal popularity poll ratings than Farage and any other party leader - your view that Farage is the best hope for change in three years time is a minority view.

Tuliptree Thu 13-Aug-26 22:17:01

Indeed we must because on this matter there is no meeting of our minds

MollyNew Thu 13-Aug-26 22:16:27

Farage our best hope? What a depressing thought.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 13-Aug-26 22:14:51

We must agree to disagree Tuliptree.

Tuliptree Thu 13-Aug-26 22:13:46

Well if he’s the best hope for change, we’re all doomed

Count Binface is lid and handles above all the other candidates in terms of of vision and commitment.
But will the denizens of Clacton realise that ?

I know of one that does.
I listened to a young woman from the gypsy community who understood exactly what Farage is about.
She was scathing about the house he bought and put in his wife’s name.
She understood everything about his tax evasion.

MollyNew Thu 13-Aug-26 21:40:03

Farage will retain his seat, I'm sure.

Probably but I hope all the other candidates split his vote and his majority is reduced.

Tuliptree Thu 13-Aug-26 21:39:56

Yes sadly I’m sure you’re right but I hope for a low turn out

MissAdventure Thu 13-Aug-26 21:37:07

Farage will retain his seat, I'm sure.

Tuliptree Thu 13-Aug-26 21:36:29

Yes that would be nice
