Yes, Nigel has won the by-election with approximately 1,000 more votes this time than in the 2024 election, according to ITV breakfast news…

Honestly? This whole political fiasco is an utter disgrace from start to finish.

Methinks the gentleman doth protest too much (& too often)

If innocent, remain silent, if guilty either by mistake or deliberately, own up and pay the penalty, whatever that might be.

Farage has simply made a mockery of our political system and is such a self seeking narcissist.

Maremia Sun 16-Aug-26 13:40:54

Farage will of course defend the gift/reward/donation/bung
but
it seems to be the ommision to declare it that is being invested at the moment.

LemonJam Sun 16-Aug-26 13:10:41

Yes the Guardian (centre left) first booked there story and has followed up with suspicious activity reports and tax queries. The Times and Sunday times (centre right owned by Rupert Murdoch) has covered the ongoing fall out, with follow up investigations into related financial disclosures.

The Daily Telegraph (right wing, Conservative), with whom Farage has a £paid contract to write columns for its publication, in response to the Guardian breaking the story, published interviews with Farage and the donor and defended receipt of the £5million sum.

The Sun circulated statements and quotes from Farage framing the £million as 'a reward'.

Byline Times has reported on the legal and civic changes including police referrals regarding the matter.

There is no national newspaper that has completely ignored or failed to report on the £5million sum or the wider story of parliamentary standards probes, electoral commission referrals, political fall out etc- all have covered in some capacity.

have been the 2 leading press reporting on Farage's £5million undeclared payment.

Thats not to

The government publishes a list of allegations currently under investigation by the Commissioner.

www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/standards-and-financial-interests/parliamentary-commissioner-for-standards/complaints-and-investigations/allegations-currently-under-investigation-by-the-commissioner/

Six people on the current list including Kevin Hollinrake (Tory), Heidi Alexander (Labour) and Sammy Wilson (DUP) plus two Reform and one "kind of" Reform, Farage, Tice and McMurdock.

That’s quite some feat in a Commons of 650 MPs, to have had five MPs elected in 2024 and have three under investigation.

The McMurdock case has been open since 15 September 2025 and is under rule 11 - Actions causing significant damage to the reputation of the House as a whole, or of its Members generally.

I think that’s to do with Covid bounce back loans he took on dormant companies - which is interesting as he’s been all over social media for months claiming he did nothing wrong, was exonerated blah blah, adding in some childish rudeness about the Commissioner for Standards for good measure. And yet the investigation is apparently still open.

Having resigned the whip, he still behaves as though he is a Reform MP, campaiging for them, tweeting all the same things they do, sitting on the Commons bench beside them rather than with the other Independents behind, was at the Farage party on Thursday/Friday … and yet they haven’t invited him back into the party. Surely if he’s innocent, they would do?

"The source was the Guardian, btw"

Not to be trusted obviously!
Stick to the Daily Mail.

It was of course the Guardian, who first reported the whiole story on April 2026 (and ever since) that Farage had secretly received 5 million just weeks before entering Parliament in 2024. That Parliament rules required him to disclose, and that he did not.

Each to their own Fried, but I could never support a candidate who exhibited so much antisemitism as a young lad.

Graphite Sun 16-Aug-26 12:01:15

IKEA terrorists? Coming over here with their Allen keys and their Billy bookcases trying to spoil Nigel’s party to celebrate getting back the £100k a year job he already had but never did and will continue not to do.

In other Reform news. While Darren Grimes makes a dick of himself, Mr DickPic himself, Jaymey McIvor has been put in charge of vetting Reform candidates.

The interviews will be interesting, won’t they? We just need a quick photo for our files so we can tell one plonker from another.

LemonJam Sun 16-Aug-26 11:39:36

Graphite 10.36- you coudn't make it up if you tried! Your post made me smile even if that was not exactly your intention 😊

butterandjam Sun 16-Aug-26 11:39:11

Cossy

I cannot help thinking what Farage has “won”? In my eyes he’s such a complete loser!

What he's "won" is the Inquiry into his and Reform's financial relationship with Harborne which will mean total humiliation and public disgrace.

oops.

Evening everyone just popping in to say I’m fine, really.
No hard feelings.

Robust debate is good (and interesting).

I just wasn’t up to speed, I got shot down.
Fair enough.

It could’ve been done a little less viciously but hey, I’m over 21.
I’ll try to do better next time (or keep it zipped 😁).

Goodnight for now.

Didn't see this last night FGT- welcome back.

Robust debate on N and P threads can be good and endlessly interesting indeed. Glad to hear you're fine 💐

foxie48 Sun 16-Aug-26 11:33:34

If there was a creditable threat and the police advised me not to attend, I'd take their advice but appoint someone else to read my letter of thanks.

AGAA4 Sun 16-Aug-26 11:27:02

People need to ask themselves what they would do if their life was threatened. Would you go to an all night party where potential assassins could be?
More likely if the police had warned him he would have been discreetly booked into a hotel under a different name.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 16-Aug-26 11:22:58

Because we like to hear of some hope for the future of our country I suppose foxie. Nebulous I agree, but better than nothing (or the same old anyway) from the UniParty.

I want to see real change. Not just tinkering around the edges.

I like Jenrick’s plans or what I’ve skimmed over so far.

Your post made me laugh Graphite 😁
I can’t defend the indefensible so I won’t try in the face of supportive evidence which is contrary to my former take on things.

However I still support Reform UK. With knobs on.

foxie48 Sun 16-Aug-26 11:11:41

There's solid evidence that Farage was never intending to attend the count as he had issued invites to his chosen supporters that he would give a speech after the count at a completely different place that was miles away. Why do people ignore his lies?

Graphite Sun 16-Aug-26 10:36:59

Choice of things to do when you feel you are in danger.

1. Announce in advance that you are going to be at a remote airfield (but within easy reach of the major port of Harwich) for an all-night outdoor party full of people, most of whom you have never met.

2. Go to an election declaration in a brightly lit room at Clacton Leisure Centre where there is a police Gold Commander and plain clothes officers in attendance.

Don’t be fooled. This was all carefully orchestrated so he didn’t have to stand on a stage with a man dressed as a bin.

Just to be clear. Farage had his top operatives on the case.

Darren Grimes, Deputy Leader of Durham County Council.

Nigel was reliably informed there was a threat to his life from IKEA terrorists that are in the country to kill him.

Revenge for the World Cup defeat?

Seems you can get anything in a flat-pack nowadays but at least we know where those missing loose screws went to.

Casdon Sun 16-Aug-26 10:35:45

Given that there has been no evidence produced that there was any credible threat to Farage at the count, and both the returning officer and the police confirmed that, and there was a police presence there too, I don’t believe it. As Graphite showed above, he had already confirmed that he would appear onstage at Farage Fest when the result was declared, so it is obvious that he had no intention of attending.

A party leader will get death threats, unfortunately that goes with the territory. They can’t live a political life in the shadows, that loses them public confidence, and votes

Very scary indeed Primrose. I’ve just been reading about it. Imagine being told that, absolutely terrifying.

foxie you sum up neatly the disregard NF showed for those good people in who counted all those votes in Clacton through Thursday night. I can only hope that as he didn’t show up (was he warned off? Official Essex police line is ‘no’ but ‘unoffifical’ after the tragic death of Anne Widdecombe, who knows?) I can only hope he thanked them fulsomely by letter explaining why he wasn’t attending.

Maybe he did make alternative plans a long time beforehand - it seems so according to your evidence Graphite - but again, how do we know how early NF was ‘unofficially’ warned off attending? We don’t.

I agree. He may have been warned by police officers rather than Essex Police making an official statement.

Bearing in mind Anne Widdecombe’s murder, previous threats and attacks on himself and other political figures who have been threatened, if a police officer had had a quiet word in my ear I don’t think I would have turned up either.

Journalist and TV presenter Patrick Christys and his wife Emily Carver have today reported that they had death threats and the Police made them leave their home immediately as the threat was so serious. Emily was heavily pregnant at the time.

This followed Patrick exposing people smugglers in Calais. They were told to get a black cab and just go. Not go in their own car as it could have been targeted. Very scary stuff!

foxie48 Sun 16-Aug-26 09:21:46

It is traditional to thank the people who have been involved with the count in some way but Farage is above all of that. He's a liar and he's also lacking in respect for the people who stayed up all night on one of the hottest days of the year to count his votes. Absolutely no manners or belief in tradition.

Graphite Sat 15-Aug-26 22:50:50

On why Farage did not go to the declaration.

A letter sent to a Reform volunteer ahead of the Clacton by-election, was posted with a first-class stamp, meaning it went out through the mail in advance of polling day itself.

In it, Farage tells the volunteer he'll be watching the results come in at Great Oakley Airfield, with doors open at 11pm, and will speak from the main stage once the result is declared.

That's not a contingency. That's the stated plan, in writing, before a vote was cast.

Days later, Reform told the press Farage was skipping the official declaration because Essex Police had advised him not to attend over a "credible threat." Essex Police say they gave no such advice to him or any candidate.

Whatever the explanation offered afterward, the letter shows where he actually planned to be all along. Not attending the count wasn't a last-minute security decision. It was the itinerary. Farage is a liar.

All views are important otherwise this forum becomes like an echo chamber with everyone agreeing with each other, very boring.

Those nodding dogs in the advert.

Oh Yes!

I was worried about polanski. I don't think I am anymore, in my view that ship has sailed.

Agreed

Fgt is resilient in my view, as much as you can judge on the Internet. I dont think this is justification for a pile on, it is just meant as a compliment.
