Interesting.
And the children starting school here.

I don’t know whether Harry or Meghan had or have plans to use those titles.

It’s important that places or enterprises using Harry or Meghan to open, publicise functions, claim as sponsors etc. know that neither they nor H&M are allowed to use the HRH titles on their publicity.

Charles is allowing his minions to handles this

The letter was issued by Baron Benyon, Lord Chamberlain of the Household.
He might be rather surprised to find himself described as a minion icanhandthemback.

It was sent by Lord Benyon to a small number of “key stakeholders” in Government, the military, Lord Lieutenancies and the Sussexes’ team.

It is in accordance with Meghan and Harry's stated wishes that they are no longer working Royals and are private citizens.

I wonder why there is a furore about this?

NotSpaghetti Thu 10-Sept-26 17:57:41

Maybe King Charles was sort of doing Harry a favour saying he is no longer involved in the Royal family duties, so sort of no longer of any real significance, so leave him alone?
Sort of.

Good point.
I hadn't thought of that but maybe others had.

I don't know how you know*icanhandthemback*?...
Which minions?
In what way?

RAVEC could still direct some operational security to the relevant police authorities. I do hope so, especially for the school journeys. I expect KC would also be pleased with that for the safety of his GC. The decision hasn't yet been made. And maybe KC's letter/announcement is purely to show that it is out of his hands. It being the decision of RAMEC and their subsequent directions. KC will know it would be controversial and the recent announcement is to clarify that he has no influence. Thereby, the GP can't hold the firm responsible for wasting tax-payers money. There's always something going on behind the scenes.

I guess if you're a former whatever - working royal or politician - once you take up that sort of position again you become vulnerable and open to threats again, (a bit like Ann Widdecombe did by re entering the fray). You sort of lay yourself bare.

Why does he think he needs 24 hour armed protection?
Does he really think he's at risk or is it because he was his 'importance' acknowledged?

Reprehensible behaviour! He’s written and talked about relationship difficulties in his family.

I'm not sure what he has done to deserve such vitriol.

He's a son of the King. They have relationship difficulties.

The King might be well served offering to pay for his protection.

Harry is well able to afford his own but it cannot be armed, nor could they be armed even if Charles paid for it.

I don’t wish to be rude but do you not read/watch the News, read the threads on Gransnet etc?
It has been explained over and over again why the King cannot just pay for protection.

"The letter from the Lord Chancellor(or whoever it was) to the official representatives of the King in this country, was simply a reminder of where the boundaries are, because PH seems unsure what they are himself"

That is exactly it, as M0nica says, and no more.
It is in no way an indication of family relationships, it is merely a reminder that Harry and Meghan are not working Royals, not part of The Firm. They are, of course, still family members and the family should be allowed to sort out their differences (or not as the case may be) away from the glare of publicity.

Of course, Meghan and Harry may see things differently but that is the situation. They do seem to need constant publicity which is the opposite of what they claimed when they left this country. I hope the press leave them alone for the sake of their children at least.

What exactly is Royal blood, is it different to the blood the rest of us have?
How did the family come to their “ position “ in the first place
.
Mostly by dubious means in the Middle Ages I think. No more noble than us.

All this isn't sitting comfortably with me. Talk of "putting them in their place". Harry is the legitimate child of a monarch. Regardless of their quarrels, or of any insensitive words from him, he still is the child of the reigning monarch and that IS his place by birth. Unlike his uncle Andrew he has not been accused of committing serious offences. He IS of royal blood, and still has popularity with a significant portion of his father's subjects. I am not sure their rejection of him now can be accurately defined as "putting him in his place". It's actually putting him out of his place. Now you may feel he deserves it and put himself out of his own place first. That's a point of view but shouldn't be redefined semantically

He is in exactly the same place as Edward VIII - and he was king!

Prince Harry has chosen, as EVIII and members of other royal families have before him, and that is to step back from royal duties and live as a private citizen. He should do just that. What his personal relationship is with other members of his immediate family are nobody's business but theirs.

The letter from the Lord Chancellor(or whoever it was) to the official representatives of the King in this country, was simply a reminder of where the boundaries are, because PH seems unsure what they are himself

His reprehensible behaviour has put him out of any sort of place in the Royal family. All he can be is an irritant.

There doesn’t seem any comparison between Andrew and Harry.

At least Andrew has just quietly shut up and retreated to a private life. No arguments or PR 'leaks' like his nephew.

He didn't really have a choice. PH does.

I think Harry is not very bright and he is being manipulated by an older woman who is slightly more street wise and totally self centred. I actually feel quite sorry for him these days. Being back in the UK is probably better for his mental health than being surrounded by Meghanites.

I think the older women reference is a nonsense. They are both in their 40s and the age difference is only a couple of years, Had they been 18 and 25 that could have been different.

I do not think Meghan is any brighter than her husband, but she has been brought up in the states, in Filmland and has been brought up to hustle, but the failure of her various filmland and online businesses, does rather suggest that she is not that good at it. PH has grown up in a very cossetted style. He was very happy in the army. He should have stayed in there.

And that's a new one to me... what's Will's intimate medical info? A birthmark near his bellybutton.

Doesn't actually matter what it was. It’s more a question of who has the right to discuss/write about someone else’s body.
If you think anyone has the right to publish facts about someone else’s body, then you’ve got no problem.
Most reasonable people think personal matter matters are personal and not for publication by someone else.

"I don't look at Harry and Charles as members of the institution, I look at them as father and son."

Just to add that we don't know what their private relationship is like now, but, as Monarch, who has certain members of his family also carrying out duties on his behalf, Charles and those who support him in his role had to make it plain that Harry and Meghan are not returning as working members of the Royal Family.

This just makes the public aware of the line between the family and the Firm.

JenniRen Thu 10-Sept-26 10:40:21

"If you think about it, it probably mirrors much of the narrative about Edward V111 and Wallis Simpson. How very dare they walk away from the institution."

Not at all.
Had they just walked away and lived their lives with dignity instead of very publicly tearing their families to shreds time and again, most people would have had a great deal of sympathy with them and more or less forgotten about them.
The media has not sought them as much as they have sought limelight in the media. They do not want to be forgotten.

Their situation is quite different too, in that Harry was the Spare (which should be a relief, not the cause of resentment it appears to be). His place in line has moved down too.
The Duke of Windsor was a Monarch, the Head of State, and abdicated that position.
