Interesting.
And the children starting school here.

JenniRen Mon 31-Aug-26 18:08:51

When does he have the time?

MissAdventure Mon 31-Aug-26 19:56:25

I thought he was so under the thumb that he wouldn't dare.
It'd help if these rumours made sense.

One minute they're the world's worst people for holding hands, or touching each other, the next its all doom and gloom and on the rocks.

Mollygo Mon 31-Aug-26 21:34:20

Today he’ll probably be thinking of something else.

JenniferEccles Mon 31-Aug-26 22:36:16

I seem to remember that Charles many years ago when he was still married to Diana defended his ongoing relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles by asking if his wife expected him to be the first Prince of Wales in history not to take a mistress.

Regarding Harry I feel he is still too besotted with his ghastly wife to be messing around with anyone else, but with that couple, who knows?

Was he forgetting Edward VIII who was so besotted with Wallis I doubt he’d have had a mistress.

I'm not saying this isn't true because it's widely accepted that he said it - but I think this was reported by Diana when talking about him during the break up and practicing "her side". Wasn't it on the tapes sold by her actor/voice coach?

I don't think anyone witnessed this, merlotgran and I seem to think there was a feeling amongst some that this was "dark humour" or sarcasm and that context matters.
Some said it was likely to have been a sort of flung-out exasperated comment which Diana then talked about as a literal declaration (she was under scrutiny and wanted to get her side of the story out).

I think none of us know anything about tone or context.
It was just before the divorce.

Re Edward V111 - He is known to have had several mistresses.

Historically, a mistress was defined as a woman who was "kept" by a powerful man in a long-term sexual or emotional relationship. They were still called mistresses even when a prince or king was unmarried.

He was involved with Freda Dudley Ward (who was married) for years. Also several wartime affairs in Paris (eg with French courtesan Marguerite Alibert).
It was his mistress Thelma, Viscountess Furness who directly asked Wallis Simpson to "look after him" while she was away.
And then of course WS herself was a "mistress".

I don't think he was forgetting Edward VIII.

Chestnut Tue 01-Sept-26 09:53:17

I think the difference here is whether the mistress is taken before or after the marriage. Those that come after the marriage are more scandalous surely. Did Edward VIII have a mistress after his marriage?

Smileless2012 Tue 01-Sept-26 10:11:25

No he didn't.

ferry23 Tue 01-Sept-26 10:15:22

I wholeheartedly agree with your comments about Lady Colin Campbell - however - immediately after the official announcement of the Queen's death, she told an interviewer that the Queen had died just after 3 that afternoon. (She said this before the time of death had been announced).

And she was right.

Make of that what you will.

She does frequently come up with little snippets that turn out to be correct, so I do think she has some kind of snoop - or informant - however you wish to refer to them - behind palace walls.

Strange, isn't it!
Wallis was married as were Edward's other paramours but, as he was unmarried at that time, they were not called mistresses.

It all sounds rather old-fashioned now.

A little diversion, other royal news.

Paul Page EX Royal Cop : Son of an Abuse Survivor. on X: "Recently i spent the a day filming with one of the most professional film crews i have ever worked with in relation to a comprehensive three part documentary on Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. This will be the most detailed and damaging documentaries about this man to date"

Hope the huge royal funding gets a big cut coming up this year,

The former MP Author Norman Baker speaking on YouTube the greed of the royals. His new book National Debt Royal Mint. The duchies need to be rolled into the Crown Estate which is state owne not millions given to Charles and William.

As far as Harry as Meghan is concerned he is Charles son and a right to come back to UK.

Daddima Tue 01-Sept-26 11:45:29

Samwam, you’ll forgive me if I can’t look to Paul Page for honest comments on anything to do with the royals!

‘ Page was convicted of one count of fraudulent trading between 2003 and 2006. He was cleared of making threats to kill against one of his victims.

He began working as a royal protection officer in 1998 and set up a number of sidelines, including a spread-betting venture called The Currency Club, in which up to 100 colleagues took part. When he and other officers lost more than £250,000, Page set up a fake property company, United Land and Property Development, in 2003 and persuaded his colleagues to invest hundreds of thousands of pounds.

The glossy brochure he used to lure them in was a fake. Page, who drove a Porsche and lived the life of a high-flying executive, owned none of the properties that his victims bought into. He conned 20 colleagues out of £1.3m and other victims out of a further £1.7m.

Page, who was charged after an investigation by the Met's department of professional standards, claimed he had set up the property firm as a way of recouping losses from the spread betting for his colleagues. The jury decided he had deliberately set out to defraud his victims in order to fund his lavish lifestyle.’

Paul Page has apologised and has paid his dues.

He was a protection officer for Andrew so knows a lot about him.

A documentary is being made with inputs from many others. So it will be interesting, about time a documentary was made which uncovers what's been hidden from public view.

JenniRen Tue 01-Sept-26 17:05:07

Andrew is a whole other story and that could get lost amongst the posts on this thread.

JenniRen Tue 01-Sept-26 17:14:33

If Meghan and Harry do choose The Cotswolds, they will have some well-known neighbours apart from members of the family.

Liam Gallagher, Kate Moss, Ellen de Generes, the Beckhams, Ellie Goulding, Ben Miller, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Prue Leith, to name a few.
And some good pubs.

Aveline Tue 01-Sept-26 17:32:40

Harry and Meghan moving in? Oops there goes the neighbourhood!

Jaberwok Tue 01-Sept-26 18:02:28

Most Princes of Wales have had a mistress since Edward 11nd. The exception being Edward Vth, Edward of Middleham, Edward V1th, all too young. Apparently Charles 1st didn't have a mistress either before marriage or afterwards. George Vth was the same.

Daddima Wed 02-Sept-26 11:14:24

Samwam, Page having apologised doesn’t really make me any more likely to believe him. I believe some Buckingham Palace security staff were armed, but I think he was palace security rather that Andrew’s protection officer.
From what I heard him say, he was responsible for monitoring who entered and left Buckingham Palace, including Andrew’s visitors.

MarieElla Wed 02-Sept-26 11:32:35

I would imagine Meghan us moaning already about their move.
Their only option now is to issue an apology to his family and then hope for some sort of involvement in future family events.

Edward V1th provided endowments to establish free Grammar Schools in his short reign, much more worthy.

Jaberwok Wed 02-Sept-26 12:16:51

I know this and more besides, but the conversation was about royal mistresses not endowments.

The trouble is once in a blue moon they are right. I remember fir example thinking Brittany's fans were absolutely bonkers, for years and years they were saying she was being controlled. They were right.

What a sensible answer! 😀

Someone who is right 1% of the time should not be given as much credence as the person who is wrong 1% of the time.

Maybe Galaxy post was pointing out that facts change and develop over time?
Perhaps using such a 'loaded' label as conspiracy theory (ist) is unhelpful to say the least?
People have lost careers for dealing in facts that others don't want highlighted.

Surely asking questions, or using 'unpalatable' facts shouldn't be silenced?

It seems many subjects and people have been relegated persona non grata in recent years. An awful lot were labelled conspiracy theorists.
The term seems to be there to close down debate. People become too afraid to speak out.

That was my reason for judging Galaxy's post as sensible, because it seemed to posit the need to buck the trend
and just adopt a 'watchful waiting' approach.

How is this about Harry?

eazybee Wed 02-Sept-26 12:55:49

It is not.(about Harry)
The problem with H&M's arrival is, I think, that H is still pursuing his fight with his father and the protection service, for want of a better description, about his demand for security. His relocation here would appear to be an attempt to use his children as a lever. Apparently they would be at great risk on the school run.

The obvious question is, so why bring them here?

Meghan's position in this I can't fathom.
